On 19 March 19 2005 we had five WV Vets appear at the "Patriots for Peace" (PFP) rally in downtown Charleston. A fifth member (Bryant) infiltrated the rally to pick up intell. ;>

After we visited with our active-Reserve vet and her husband (who had not had time to spend together for quite a while so they could not stand with us) Pat (our NCO) led Rick G., Karl, and John to post on four corners of Capitol and Lee. This was the busiest intersection for traffic. If one more vet had shown up we could have posted three at each entrance to the park where the rally was held and maintained radio contact.

We had our large "FREEDOM IS NOT FREE" professionally done sign, two hand held professionally done signs with the same message, and one each homemade signs of "We Make War So We may Live In Peace" (Aristotle) and "Once We have A War It Must Be Won" (Hemingway). We did not have any "Honk" signs, but the reaction from the passing motorists was obviously very favorable.

Bryant (Vietnam Vet) told us the people (about 200) at the rally looked like the same ones he saw in '68 and they were singing the same songs and saying the same things. Bryant, of course, says it better than I can report it. He should have his own talk show since he always regales listeners with his wit and wisdom. I know that one of the PFP leaders is a liberal preacher who led the 1974 battle to force humanism (and worse) into the local public schools. If memory serves, he was also an anti-Vietnam War protester.

John (a gruff ex-USAF MP) was accosted by a portly female "Patriot" calling him an idiot. There again--the hilarity of that can't be done justice with my limited literary skills.

Pat and Rick were left alone as far as I know, but I must have a sign on my back that says "Wimp" because I seemed to draw the venom. I was hassled by an older scruffy looking fellow who profanely said we were supporting Bush who was wasting money in Iraq and causing gas prices to rise. Later some guy dressed in a Haliburton jump suit, wearing cowboy boots and a hat, with a Bush mask, and brief case with an AWOL bumper sticker on it came up and started calling me names. I asked him where he served and he said "Vitnam"* but would not give his unit name. He refused my request for him to remove his mask and said that I needed "to put a mask on!" I called him a coward and then some little punk came up and started verbally helping the clown. When I asked the new guy where he served he proudly said he took pills all night before his draft physical. I called him a coward and things were heating up when Pat moved in and the PFP jerks took off.

The rally lasted two hours. We were there the whole time and left when it was over.

This, and future AARs will be posted on the WVVets forum. http://s6.invisionfree.com/wvvets So PLEASE start checking the site daily. We are looking for a name to use as a heading. During the election it was "Hold the Line". Some ideas for this campaign are Hold the Line II, High Ground, Counter Act, Neutralize, WIN, and Stand Firm. Please vote on one of these or suggest your own.

Our plans are to picket the liberal rallies and to welcome and support current military personnel. Please post your comments on the forum.

The people holding this rally were the local environmentalist whackos, evolutionists, abortionists, compromising religionists, socialists, and sodomite extremists. They must not be allowed to gather momentum in the public eye. Currently they are holding antiwar protests on Tuesdays at the Town Center Mall. If you will join me in a picket this week (22 March) let me know. It would be around 11:30 to 1:00 or so.

*Rick said he recognized the guys voice (the clown posed for a picture from a fellow PFP trying to mock Rick. Also, the Gazette managed to put the coward's picture on the front page of the Sunday edition (But, would you believe it?) missed us.

Correction: The Bush coward (I mean clown) was not the one in the Gazette photo. It was of a man who yelled and called us Fascists as he walked out with his family.

The only man in the phone book matching his name and location is a Reverend.

The West Virginia Patriots for Peace focused on “Ending the War, Beginning the Healing” during a Saturday demonstration in downtown Charleston. The second anniversary of the Iraq war has been marked by similar events worldwide. Here, Bob Kincaid of Ansted listens to a speaker with his 9-year-old son, Bob Jr.

Great to include the photo from the front page of Sunday's newspaper! This guy was so very polite, and served as such a good role model for his children! The woman with them, presumably his wife and the mother of the children, trailed behind, herding the smaller kids along, and gave us a big thumbs up. Was she confused about who we were, or just embarrassed by his behavior?
