cats dwell, no longer having to fear twolegs, monsters, or thunderpaths again. But will the peace last? The four clans of Thunder, River, Wind, and Shadow have been in these lands for a long time, and only one is still alive who has made the journey from their old forest to this new one, the old and almost-gone-to-starclan elder, Birchfur. He has passed on the stories of the old forest, the journey of the six choosen cats, and the journey of the clans, or, as it is now called, The Great Passage. Soon, the responsibilty will fall to the younger cats who have heard the tales from him, for he is on his deathbed. Her pawsteps were silent as she padded over to her nest in the nursery. Her once bright golden orbs were now clouded as she grieved for her parents and siblings. Wolfkit had just recently turned 6 moons and she was ready to be apprenticed. Wolfkit raised her gaze to look at Silverpelt through the covering of the nursery. "Do you watch over me from up there" she whispered silently and a breeze ruffled her fur. She closed her eyes embracing it as if it were an old friend. A voice seem to whisper upon the breeze into the kit's ear. "Make us proud" the chorus of voices said and the breeze vanished as did the voices. "I will" she muttered opening her eyes and the reflection of the warrior ancestors danced in her eyes.

Hazelkit's ears twitched and her eyes flickered open. She let out a yawn and looked over to the older kit. Wolfkit? she murmured incoherantly. She shook her head to rid her eyes of the sleepy blur. What are you doing awake? she asked softly, getting up and walking silently over to Wolfkit.

Wolfkit sensed her friend awake and turned to her. "Just thinking" she said glancing once more up at the moon then returning her gaze to Hazelkit. "Do you think I'll make a good warrior one day" she asked verbalizing her thoughts. She usually never talked openly to cats but somehow Hazelkit was different. Wolfkit felt that Hazelkit was her only kin.

Hazelkit nodded. Yeah. Yeah, I do. she replied softly, following Wolfkit's gaze. She lay down beside her friend. You'll be one of the best. I just know it. She glanced over and smiled. What about me? Do you think I have a chance at getting to be apprenticed to the medicine cat?

Wolfkit turned to Hazelkit. "Thanks and I think you're the only one suitable to be a medicine cat apprentice" she purred taking comfort from having her friend beside her. She grew nervous and looked away from Hazelkit. "Hey Hazelkit........do you know what it means when I hear voices upon the breeze?" she asked kneading the gorund nervously.

Voices? Let me think. She loked at the ground, trying to remember what the medicine cat had told her once. Leaders and medicine cats recieve messages and dreams from starclan. Even some very special warriorrs do. The two sentences replayed in her head. Moonfeather told me once that special warriors sometimes hear Starclan, not just the medicine cats and leaders. Maybe your hearing them? She suggested, looking back up.

Wolfkit looked to her friend and for a moment fear flashed in her orbs before they went back to displaying no emotion. "Why would they choose me" she thought aloud looking to her paws.

Asking that is like asking why the grass is green, Wolfkit. she said with a smile. And anyway, what's the point in asking when you know you'll never know the answer?
