Appearance:

Dalton is a tall, lean, and athletic human male, 6’2 and 190 lbs. He has caucasian skin pigmentation, salt and pepper hair that he keeps close-cropped in a brush cut, and blue eyes. Morgan’s most notable features are a rather surprisingly large collection of scars over his body. His face is hard, owing to the brutal life he lead on Vekta before he joined Starfleet, as well as the horrors and tragedies he has experienced first-hand while in the line of duty.

Medical File:

Morgan is extremely fit. His many scars, including on his chin, forehead, right and left forearm, abdomen, back, and left thigh, all bear testimony to the knives, bricks, clubs, broken bottles, and other weapons that have been used against him during his difficult life. He has suffered many broken bones and other more serious injuries, yet he has healed remarkably well.

Character:

Morgan is an idealist; he has even been described as a romantic. He believes that one man can make a difference, and is passionate about protecting and defending those unable to do so for themselves. It is this character trait that steered him towards the Security Branch in Starfleet.

Morgan has a volatile temper, which has developed over many years of witnessing and experiencing injustice and human degredation on Vekta. He constantly works to keep the anger in check, but sometimes it gets the better of him, with explosive results.

Because of his background, he finds it very hard to trust people; he has been betrayed so many times in the past, he expects this from everyone he meets. It takes Morgan a long time to develop trust in anyone.

History:

Morgan has been an orphan since the age of 16. His mother died in childbirth. He has no other relatives that he is aware of.

He was born on the nearly-forgotten Federation colony of Vekta. There is only one real settlement on Vekta: Iron Hills. Vekta is primarily a mining colony that produces latinum, however, there is also an agricultural industry as well. It was here that the Dalton family lived and farmed. Iron Hills is a nightmare of crime, pollution, poverty, violence, desperation, and degredation.

His father and brother were murdered by criminals that raided the family farm. He watched helplessly as they were beaten and stabbed to death. After the murders, he raised himself. The following year, he became a deputy sherriff in Iron Hills, hoping to prevent tragedies like the one that took his family from him. Unfortunately, he found that corruption had reached into the Sherriff’s Dept as well.

After two harsh years policing Iron Hills, he finally made enough enemies that a contract was put out on his life. His partner and mentor, a man named Delbert Antler, attempted to collect on this contract. Although Delbert succeeded in seriously wounding Morgan during this attempted murder, he himself was killed when Morgan overpowered him, despite his injuries.

Knowing that he could no longer live on Vekta, he stowed away on a civilian freighter that was departing Iron Hills that night. Onboard that freighter was a Federation envoy who had been on a fact-finding mission on Vekta to observe first hand the rumours of the the horrible living conditions of the Federation citizens there. This envoy took pity on Dalton, and arranged for medical treatment and transport to Earth, and helped enroll in Starfleet Academy, in the Security Branch.

Despite his apparent change of life, Morgan’s tragic luck seemed to follow him throughout his career. While onboard his first posting, the USS Challenger, two of his cadet trainees were killed during a pressure-suit training exercise.

During his next posting, the USS Juno Beach, he was the sole survivor of a brutal ground battle that left him the only survivor of his Security regiment. This battle left both mental and physical scars.

His last posting on the USS Stryker was also marred by tragedy; it began when he and another Marine on board formed an unlikely friendship that had the potential to become romantic. However, this woman was taken from him unexpectedly when it was learned that she had a dormant Tal Sh’iar cranial surveillance implant that caused significant brain damage.

Shortly after this loss, the Stryker itself was destroyed during a rescue operation that ended up being a pitched battle. There were very few survivors, and Morgan began to believe that he is “cursed”…he must continue to endure emotional and physical pain, and that people suffer when he allows himself to open himself to others.
