The USA is a crazy place. Fort Hood, Virginia Tec, Columbine etc. etc. is the price you pay for the right to own guns. If that's an acceptable price (which it seems to be judging by the lack of any genuine will to change gun laws) then incidents like these shouldn't even be newsworthy...they're just a fact of American life.

CTTV is everywhere...because the pros (security, crime detection/prevention) outweigh the cons (fears about lack of privacy, big brother, police state blah, blah, blah).

And it's cheap. UK has a very high rate per capita of those cameras.

As a very fine band, Hard Fi, once said - we are the stars of CCTV.

yes,
it's news for a few days,
then it's
"ho hum,
another one."
no wonder we're so quick to go to war.
life is cheap in these parts,
irrespective of what we might say about the sanctity of the life of an unborn child.
it'd be nice if the Pro-Life mindset extended to life beyond the womb.

oh yeah, CCTV. Not CTTV as I suggested...I must have been thinking of children's telly or something.

Children's telly is everywhere because the pros (security, crime prevention/detection) outweigh the cons (having to talk to them).

No, socialism, or communism, would be a classless society. And we would do well to take Jesus's advice and dissolve the bourgeios unit of the family, which, in general, serves to replicate class divisions.

Didn't we learn that a classless society doesn't work and that Jesus' advice was non- political ?

Timon, nice swipe at the VP. Fit nicely into your argument. The right to bear arms is considered firearms and firearms are classified as "Guns" but what if they would become obsolete and replaced, as you say, by lasers. Does the second amendment still remain constitutional ?

Hell, I hope the US doesn't become a CCTV country, although I do see more and more of them in certain areas. This would mean I would have to give up my life as living like Diogenes. A very cynical dogish masturbaterrrr.......

guns as the Founding Fathers understood them to be didn't even include the Gatling gun
(not invented yet),
let alone an AK-47 or an Uzi.
i wouldn't want to be a cop in the U.S. these days.
you're outmatched by the firepower of the average nutcase civilian.
every vote to allow concealed weapons on the average citizen is a vote against children,
a vote against shop owners and banks,
a vote against cops,
and a vote against sanity.

as for Jesus' message,
it's quite political in content,
just not in terms of the standard right wing/left wing rhetoric we're accustomed to nowadays.
any message that asks people to think and change their awareness of life is political.
any message that gives a pass to people to fall asleep in their freedom is political.
it just becomes a matter of which message you choose to follow.

In general though, with these conversations about evil, don't you find that it's either shallow as a Michael Bay joint, or deep as 'Daddy don't!!'. I just can't decide.
