I'm not too familiar with the Dolby original but I've been a Bill Shatner fan for many years. Here's his finest song, with his collaborative partner Ben Folds. Ben had Shatner's much maligned 60s album 'The Transformed Man', which I think was actually fairly visionary at the time, and decided to write a song in that style. He sent the demo to 'The Shat' who's kids were into Ben Folds, and the rest is history. Enjoy:

William Shatner's new album is a concept about space travel or something, but to cover Dolby's 'She Blinded Me With Science' seems like some sort of twisted genius at work, for starters WS is 80 years old.Secondly I never knew the song was known outside the U.K where it was only a minor hit anyway.I thought the Dolby fanboys (he-he) on Sproutnet might have some interesting comments.
The 'Has Been' album is incredible,"That's Me Trying" "It Hasn't Happened Yet "and especially "What Have You Done" left me stunned when I first heard it.It's a bit like Paddy's 'Megahertz' album, not something you can listen to everyday, probably a cert to clear a room, but a profound work of words and music.

There are certainly parallels with 'Megahertz', I suppose any instrumental and spoken word piece should really have Shatner as the gold standard of comparison. Loved 'Has Been', never knew quite what to make of 'What Have You Done' other than: i. It's not a piece of music; and ii. It's an incredibly honest and brave piece of artistic expression.
That someone in their 70s and 80s is still as creative and willing to take risks as Shatner is pretty inspiring.
