Title: Danny Wilson

I just listened to Meet Danny Wilson for the first time. I saw that they got comparisons to Prefab Sprout and Steely Dan. It's a very good album, but it looks like they broke up after the sophomore one which I see didn't get very favorable reviews.

the only track I know by him is Mary's Prayer, seemingly a local fm programmer's favourite .

'Meet Danny Wilson' is in my opinion a classic! One of the best albums of the 80's. My favourite track is 'Davy' and 'I won't be here when you get home'. Both surpass the most famous track 'Mary's Prayer' and many other songs are winners too. The second album 'Bebop Moptop' is a more dissapointing album which has a slight rockabilly style in parts though it has it's moments such as the bands other hit 'Second Summer of Love'.
Also a good compilation called 'Sweet Danny Wilson' was released. Some copies come with a second disc which has a some rarities on there. Gary Clarke also did an album under the name King L with Boo Hewardine from the excellent band The Bible. Gary also released the album 'Ten Short Songs About Love' which finds him writing in a style which is closer to Danny Wilson. Hope that is of some interest and help!

So there's a band called The Bible. Youtube, what can you show about it?

Meet Danny Wilson really is a classic for the Sophsti-Pop genre. They showed so much promise on that album and it's kind of frustrating that they weren't able to keep up the terrific work. Gary Clarke had a really good voice and was a pretty good songwriter. It would be nice if he had more of his own material available.

To me, they are the band that sounds the most like Steely Dan.
