Title: Quiz Question
bisonrav - October 21, 2011 09:01 PM (GMT)
Anyone know what links Jimi Hendrix and Andromeda Heights?
ronchito - October 21, 2011 09:08 PM (GMT)
David Brewis played a Hendrix-owned guitar on it?
bisonrav - October 21, 2011 09:16 PM (GMT)
Yep, through a Hendrix effects chain. The psychedelic Flying V through a fuzz box he bought for 9 quid from a junk shop in Sunderland.
The song will come as a surprise though if you don't know which one it was.

I have no faith in this guess whatsoever but did they use it to mimic a harmonica in 5th horseman?
bisonrav - October 21, 2011 09:40 PM (GMT)
No, was the Mystery of Love, astoundingly. You couldn't really get much further away from Voodoo Child if you tried.
Brewis had bought the Flying V - which had had the Hendrix decorations removed - on a hunch and it was actually Paddy who provided the clinching evidence, being a clear photo of the original guitar on the front cover of Shaar's Crosstown Traffic from which marks on the neck dots could be idenfitied. It went into auction but didn't sell, and Brewis restored it to the full psychedlic paint job.

aw man, that was actually going to be my 2nd guess! probably those little wah-wah/trem stabs around 0:50?
bisonrav - October 21, 2011 09:48 PM (GMT)
Yes, in fact I had it wrong about the effects, was a wah wah pedal.
Brewis still a twat though.

Doesn't Alan Clark from Dire Straits also play on that tune?

Hmmm...what brought that on, Tim?
Have you had the pleasure of crossing his path too? :ph43r:

Nice one guys - enjoyed that little passage of play. Two questions remain unanswered though...

Here's another vague connection: Andromeda Heights was also the name of Paddy's studio; Hendrix named the LP Electric Ladyland after his studio. I'll get my coat...
bisonrav - October 23, 2011 06:43 PM (GMT)
Kirsty McColl had the best album title ever with Electric Landlady too

I met him once, in 1983. I bought a Les Paul Goldtop in Windows, the music shop where he worked in Newcastle, and with which some readers will be familiar I'm sure. Seemed like a nice enough bloke.
