Title: 06/03/10 - '97 Interview / Dolby Gig

Jamie - March 6, 2010 05:16 PM (GMT)
Hello Sprouters, plenty for you to get your teeth into this week. Firstly, David Merrheim has sent in a new 12-minute audio interview with Paddy, which he recorded off French station 'Europe 2' in 1997. It's well worth a listen, and can be downloaded here.

Ola Sjostrand sent in this report of Thomas Dolby's gig on February 28th:

Yesterday, I went to see the Thomas Dolby gig 'Circumnavigating the Flat Earth' @ the Union Chapel, Islington, London. This offered a rare opportunity to see Wendy Smith and Martin Mcaloon on stage with Thomas Dolby performing a couple of songs with him. The obvious question came up about when Paddy is planning to release anything new and Martin's response was basically not anytime soon...

Also on getting back together as the Prefab Sprout both Martin and Wendy did not think that would ever happen. In any case both seemed to enjoy themselves on stage and for me it was great to hear Wendy sing after all these years!

A typically bleak outlook for the future, but seems like a good time was had by all. Ola also took this great picture at rehearsals, and Stewart found this picture of all the participants, which has Wendy and Martin one-in from either end. Further pictures, collected from twitter by Rivermoving, can be seen here.

Forum member bisonrav, only a few weeks ago responsible for the new gigography, has started a project which involves remastering the live videos from the videos section. So far he has tackled the videos from the Fleadh festival, in 2000, and you can see the improved versions of those here, here and here.

Last but not least, Tristara has 'struck so deep a chord,' and compiled some tabs for 'Earth: The Story So Far', which you can get hold of here.

Great stuff!

Jamie, do you have any more info when the French radio interview was broadcast?

I don't actually, but if you want to ask the guy, send me an email with the question and I'll forward it.

Hello everybody.
The guy is me. So I'm David (from France).
In fact, Jamie, I just recorded the interview, I did not conduct it as you say.
But I know very well Gauthier, the man from Europe 2 who conducted the interview.
I'll ask him but I'm not sure he will remember.
I'll tell you what he answers about that.
Bye!
David a.k.a. Callagan

Whoops! I guess I have some back-peddling to do...somehow I got the impression from your emails that you had carried it out yourself! Or I just assumed!

Thanks for your help, anyway.

Merci beaucoup, David. Je serai heureux de lire votre réponse.

Woaw Rivermoving!
What a nice French!
About the language question, I wondered if Paddy had already written songs in other languages than English.
For example, there is a Norwegian band that I love, Bel Canto, that write songs (or sometimes parts of songs) in English, French, Spanish or German.

Merci, Callagan! M'enfin, français ce n'est pas très difficile, non ? ;)

I've never heard of Paddy writing in any other languages. In fact, I don't even know if he speaks other languages besides English.
