Jim Bullins, father of Anchormen owner, Tim Bullins, passed away earlier today. Below is his Obituary and Funeral arrangements. Jim was a great contributor to his community and the kids they called "Jim's Kids." Let's all remember Tim and the Bullins Family in our prayers.
Mr. James McKenieth "Jim" Bullins, 68, of 2262 Racetrack Road, Sophia, NC, died Wednesday, January 28, 2009, at his home.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 31, 2009, at Sunset Avenue Church of God, with the Rev. John Marlow and special friend, Otis Marlow, officiating. Burial will follow at Liberty Road Baptist Church Cemetery.
A native of Stokes County, NC, Mr. Bullins was born July 22, 1940, the son of the late James and Alverda Lou Bullins. He was an over the road truck driver for over 30 years having driven for Morrow’s Transfer. In the early 80’s, Jim founded Jim’s Kids, an organization helping to provide financial assistance and much needed joy to children and adults with disabilities. Jim’s Kids held Christmas parties in December and July of each year and surprised many of the Kid’s with necessary handicap devices that the family could not afford financially. Jim’s Kids had become very well known in the trucking community across the country with interviews appearing in numerous trucker magazines as well as People Magazine, NBC Nightly News and Reader’s Digest. Jim received the 1993 Governor’s Award, 1996 Trucker’s Jamboree Award, 1997 RPM Magazine Extra Mile Award and 2000 Asheboro Rotary Club Good Samaritan Award.
Survivors include his wife, Mary King Bullins, of the home; daughters, Teresa Lynn Bullins, of Asheboro, Rebecca Diane Bullins, of Sophia; sons, Tim Bullins, of Goldsboro, NC, Larry Bullins and wife, Tiny, of Sophia; sisters, Hester Collins, Joyce Cornelison, both of Asheboro; grandchildren, Rebecca Lynn Mitchell, of Asheboro, Amber Dawn Cranford, of Asheboro, James Lee Vance, of Sophia, Richard Allen Vance, of Randleman, Jennifer Renae Bullins, of Sophia, Larry Matthew Bullins, of Asheboro, Miranda Blair Jarrell, of Sophia, Samantha Beth Trogdon, of Sophia, Heather Thompson, of Thomasville; three great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Ridge Funeral Home from 6:00 until 9:00 pm on Friday, January 30, 2009, and other times at the home.
