Title: American Idol Season 8
pattipagewhite - January 30, 2009 02:29 PM (GMT)
Just wanted to say that there are two East Texans going to Hollywood...very local to me...one was on last night, Kendall Beard from Lufkin/Austin...she's from Lufkin but living in Austin now. She was only on briefly, they didn't show much about her, but she has a really good voice, she sang a Martina McBride song, From The Ashes.
The other one is from Jasper, a town 30 miles from me...he's a big guy, works as a roughneck on an oil rig....he had a really good voice also and a sweet attitude. His name is Michael Sarver. He sang Thank You by BoyzIIMen.
Here's a link to his audition...

That was cool, Patti.....I missed him on tv......thanks for sharing that.
As for the girl, I remember seeing someone from Austin, but I can't remember what she sounded like. It must be exciting, seeing someone locally do well on American Idol.
quartetlover - January 30, 2009 05:54 PM (GMT)
I haven't watched much of any of the auditions so far. I did check out your link though, Patti. He sounds good.
I really can't wait until they at least get to the Hollywood portion of the show. The auditions aren't as fun for me as they used to be.
ThunderingHerd - January 31, 2009 12:31 AM (GMT)
I agree with Shari. The auditions part of the show are not as fun for me as they once were. I enjoy the competion rounds more. I am anxious to see it get started in Hollywood next week.
pattipagewhite - January 31, 2009 12:58 AM (GMT)
I agree with you both....the auditions are awful...they spend so much time on the bad ones....it makes you wonder if at least some of them aren't staged to keep people entertained...lol
ThunderingHerd - February 12, 2009 10:56 PM (GMT)
I can already tell that the Tatiana girl is going to get on my nerves! I hope she is first to go!
pattipagewhite - February 13, 2009 01:25 PM (GMT)
I haven't been able to watch the Wed night shows...we tape Lost while we're at church....lol....but the local paper said the two locals are in the top 36. I really think Michael Sarver is better than Kendall Beard, but I don't think either one will make it to the end...but you never can tell.

Agreed!
VirginiaJoe - February 14, 2009 05:15 AM (GMT)
She's already gotten on mine............I am disappointed that they put her through.
pattipagewhite - February 14, 2009 12:55 PM (GMT)
Well....we can all be thankful they sent "bikini girl" packing anyway...but not soon enough....I think they keep some of them for the sake of ratings.... :whistling:

I think you're right..... and I agree with everyone about giggly Tatiana. UGH! If she produces ratings, then something's wrong.
Surely, she won't make it to the top 12. There are three groups of 12 who sing.... America votes two from each group through.... so the judges get to pick two others from each group? I don't see America voting her through, but who knows what the judges will do.
VirginiaJoe - February 16, 2009 06:49 PM (GMT)
Is that how they are doing it, Shari? What is the time frame on getting down to 12?
quartetlover - February 17, 2009 05:59 PM (GMT)
I don't know for sure what the time frame is...... I assume three weeks. I think that 12 will perform each Tuesday, and America will vote for their top two favorites. That would only be six singers (two from each group)...... leaving the judges to keep six of their favorites. Maybe America gets three top vote getters..... I'm not sure..... but I have heard that the judges get a choice too.
ThunderingHerd - February 19, 2009 02:24 AM (GMT)
I thought the results tonight were pretty accurate. I thought for the boys that it was a tough group of compeitors. The girls in this group were pretty weak I thought. Thank good Tatiana is gone. I would not have been surprised if she had tackled Danny during his song ha ha. She is a nut! How are the wild card spots going to be awarded. Anyone know?
pattipagewhite - February 19, 2009 05:47 PM (GMT)
I didn't get to watch last night....I can't believe Michael made it.... :Shari woohoo: ...I don't really look for him to be the next AI, but it's still great to see a local boy make it that far.
VirginiaJoe - February 19, 2009 06:03 PM (GMT)
Patti, I think the other contestant from Texas, Kendall Beard, will be on the third show, in two weeks. Congrats on getting Michael into the top 12.
pattipagewhite - February 19, 2009 07:24 PM (GMT)
I don't really expect Kendall to make it through and I was a bit surprised that Michael did, but he really has a good voice and he seems so sweet....in fact, I sort of hope he doesn't make it all the way...fame seems to destroy so many lives...and he has a good family.
quartetlover - February 19, 2009 07:24 PM (GMT)
I don't know how the Wild Cards will be picked....... but I'm guessing that Tatiana will have another chance... so don't get too excited yet. LOL The judges gave her pretty good comments Tuesday night. And, they told her that she is the most talked about contestant so far this year..... whether good or bad. That scares me.......... they may keep her around for the ratings.
I hope I'm wrong.
pattipagewhite - March 5, 2009 01:13 PM (GMT)
Not really a surprise that Kendall didn't make it....it's tough for a country singer to make it on AI....not impossible, but tough.
VirginiaJoe - March 5, 2009 03:24 PM (GMT)
For what it's worth, I really liked Kendall. I think she is good. Simon just doesn't like country music.
pattipagewhite - March 5, 2009 05:38 PM (GMT)
True....he doesn't. I don't dislike Simon like I used to, I think he is brutally honest and is just trying to prepare the contestants to face the reality of the harshness of the business.
quartetlover - March 5, 2009 05:39 PM (GMT)
I liked Kendall too. I'd much rather see her in the wild card picks than Tatiana. That girl annoys me to no end. I just hope and pray that there are three singers tonight who are MUCH better than her. Please......
VirginiaJoe - March 6, 2009 06:10 PM (GMT)
Great news! There were at least four that were better.....hehehe.
VirginiaJoe - March 20, 2009 04:07 PM (GMT)
Did anyone watch American Idol this week?
I about threw up when Adam Lambert sang Ring of Fire........if you want to call it singing.
He made a mockery of Johnny Cash's song, in my opinion.........one columnist, this morning, called it a "train wreck"
He got thru the week because he was fantastic last week, I thought.
Does anyone disagree? Or do you agree with Simon, who called it "absolute indulgent rubbish"?
ThunderingHerd - March 22, 2009 11:50 PM (GMT)
I absolutley hated his rendition of "Ring of Fire" I infact said taht Johnny and June were rolling over in their graves after that performance. I wanted him to be in the bottom 3 and ousted last week but it was not meant to be. I am hoping that he does not go much farther. He is a very bizzare young man.
pattipagewhite - March 23, 2009 02:03 AM (GMT)
I just watched a video of his performance?.....that was about as strange as it could get....I can't believe some of the judges thought it was good....he sounded like a sick dog....he had black fingernails...yuck...I've heard he's into the Twilight stuff....he's obviously into the Goth style.....not my fave, not my fave at all. Hello....Michael Jackson is his favorite male singer...go figure.
quartetlover - March 23, 2009 04:57 PM (GMT)
Adam Lambert completely freaked me out. I have nothing good to say about him.
Love Danny Gokey...... Love Anoop (I think I just love saying his name LOL)..... Love Kris Allen (there was an article in our newspaper about him being a Christian)... and LOVE Megan Joy. Megan is definitely "quirky" like the judges like to call her, but she has a really unique voice and I hope she does well.
VirginiaJoe - March 26, 2009 03:22 PM (GMT)
Oh man, Adam Lambert did a complete turnaround last night, which shows the remarkable talent that he has. He obviously got the memo, and pretty much showed that the road to the next American Idol.........goes thru him.
I really like Danny Gokey, and I think the early choices for the "final four" are the last four performers from last night.......Lil Rounds and Allison Iraheta, the only teenager remaining in the competition.
Sadly, I think either Michael or Megan will be going home tonight. Megan was really bad last night, but she is talented enough to stay around. Personally, I think Scott probably should go, but will be saved another week or two.

I sooooooo take this statement back. Adam really does have a great voice. It's nice to have it back last night..... and he cleans up pretty good too.
Megan stunk...... poor girl.
Matt Giraud.... the first dude.... oh my land, he was awesome. Kris was really good too..... I love his little crooked mouth when he sings....... ANOOP!!.... love the name, and he was really great too.
Don't really care who goes home tonight.......

I so agree Shari!!
I had to look twice to make sure that was really him with his changed appearance!
pattipagewhite - March 26, 2009 06:42 PM (GMT)
I didn't watch last night...I heard Michael did badly....I figure he'll be heading home this week.....I really think it's for the best....we've all seen what fame can do to families and he has such a sweet little family.
VirginiaJoe - April 4, 2009 12:53 AM (GMT)
They are down to 8 on American Idol, with Megan going home this week. I would expect Anoop, Matt and Scott to be the next three exiting.
I think it is Adam Lambert's to lose, with Danny his top competition. A lot of people are liking Kris Allen more and more, and I think those three and Lil Rounds will be the last four standing, unless the teenager (Allison) sneaks in there.
My daughter said that the song Adam did, "Play That Funky Music", was one of her favorite songs when she was young........and she thought he was better than the original. I don't know about that, but he is talented.
quartetlover - April 9, 2009 05:05 PM (GMT)
I'm very disappointed with AI. Talk about self-indulgent...... AI is self-indulgent! Who are they to take up more than their hour of allotted time? Very surprisingly, I do have a life, and I don't sit in front of the TV endlessly. So....... when I tape a show, I actually expect to SEE the entire show that I taped. I taped it Tuesday night, to find out that I missed Adam's performance because the show lasted WELL over the hour that it should have lasted.
I wasn't the least bit impressed with any of the performances that I did see. But, I hear that Simon gave Adam a standing ovation. That never happens.... so it had to be good. Adding a fourth judge didn't do any good....... it only succeeded in taking up more time. Ugh.
VirginiaJoe - April 15, 2009 03:34 PM (GMT)
I'm sure it is just me, but I thought last night was the most boring night of the season. My guess is that Lil Rounds will go home tonight, but it could be Matt or Anoop or Kris.
Lil did "The Rose" and I thought she would finally please the judges because that is a beautiful song, but she wasn't good. Paula and Simon were her judges in the new format to save time (only two judges for each performer) and I had no idea what Paula said.........but Simon told her that, once again, she was completely wrong with her song choice.
I hope they go back to the 3 judges next year.....I didn't like the way they did it last night. By the way, Simon blamed last week on the women talking too much, and no one seemed to disagree......lol.
I think the final three will be Allison, Danny and Adam.
VirginiaJoe - April 16, 2009 09:35 PM (GMT)
The judges used their "one-time" save last night, when they kept Matt from going home. I can't understand why they did that. I still think it is a ratings deal, because Matt was much worse when he sang last night, than he was on Tuesday. They chose to save him anyway, so next week they will send two home. It will be disco week.
ThunderingHerd - April 17, 2009 12:25 AM (GMT)
I was glad to see that they used the judges save last night on Matt. That way...if Adam does bad this week and is voted out they can't save him ha ha
quartetlover - April 17, 2009 05:12 PM (GMT)
I finally got to see the show. I don't like how they did only two judges at a time either, Joe. That was just plain crazy. They give people who are accepting awards a time limit.... they just need to do the same with the judges. The girls DO talk way too much. Ugh. Give them 15 seconds each. That's plenty of time to say what you gotta say. One minute for total judges review.
I can't believe they saved Matt either. I'm with Simon..... there is no way he's gonna win this thing, so why bother? They should've saved it for next week.... their last chance to use it. Now..... if Danny and Adam are both in the bottom two next week, they're out. I know that would make you happy, Steve...... but Adam really does have talent compared to most of them.
Debbie - April 21, 2009 09:25 PM (GMT)
We have revival this week so I'll miss the show this week. I hope Danny & Kris do well. I am NOT a fan of Adam at all. I can't stand to even look at him because he looks freaky and.......well, I won't go there. lol Anyway, I'd be more than happy to see him go. :P
quartetlover - April 23, 2009 04:34 PM (GMT)
Hey Debbie! We had revival this week too. Ours ended last night. It's been an awesome week!! A little fire and brimstone preachin' never hurt anyone!! LOVED it!!
Anyway....... I finally got to see this week's show yesterday after work. Adam used to freak me out too...... ok, only once, when he sang "Ring of Fire".... but he has really grown on me since then. He seems to be really humble (which I like), and he has an amazing voice. He did really, really well once again this week.
I was glad to see Lil and Anoop go home this week. I think America made the right choices.
Debbie - April 29, 2009 01:32 AM (GMT)
Just finished watching the show for this week. I enjoyed Kris & Danny with Danny being my favorite. They both sang & performed well. After all....it is a SINGING competition and they both have smooth voices that are easy to listen to. Adam reminds me of something I would see in a theatre show in Branson or Pigeon Forge not a concert. So I'm not sure why he is so popular on this show. He is more of an actor than a singer. If you took away all his added "drama".....I wonder how popular he would be. He seems to "wow" people with all his extra stuff instead of just with his voice. It just doesn't impress me at all. I think Danny or Kris are the ones who deserve to win.
