Nola Orleans has always appeared very young for her age, a trait that is both a gift and a curse for her. Many underestimate her because of her size, and many more mistake her for being a child or young teen. Though she is extremely petite, she has lithe muscles – the sort you would expect to see on a dancer – and she knows how to use her strength. Her skin is somewhere between pale and tan, though she tans very easily in the sun due to her Portuguese heritage. Also due to this heritage, she has full and dark hair that never seems to stop growing, though she generally keeps it cut to just below her bust line. Nola’s eyes have been described as piercing but benevolent. They seem to stare right through a person, but never hold anything but good intentions.

Nola has very few “distinguishing features,” though she has been described as a somewhat unique looking person due to her face shape and her dwarfish size. Her ears were pierced as a baby, but she never got anything else pierced. She has one scar on her right arm, a faint crescent near her wrist from jumping a fence in 8th grade. Nola also has a birthmark on her stomach between her hips that vaguely resembles an anchor. Her mother always joked that it was because her father had been a sailor.

Personality: Nola Orleans is a very up-beat person, despite many of the things that have happened in her past. She led a fairly normal life all through adolescence, despite having lost her father at the age of six. Nola’s mother did her best to raise Nola with a deep love and respect for everything, and the influence stuck. Even after discovering her unusual gift when she was 10, Nola kept her personality happy and bubbly unlike some of the other clairvoyants she came in touch with. She was never one of the “popular” crowd, but she was always generally well liked because she was almost painfully nice to everyone.

It takes a great deal to make Nola angry, but she is the kind of person who is extremely angry for a very short period of time. She is the kind to forgive and forget, and she has only ever held one grudge. Nola is a loving person, although life has taught her that love and complete trust are emotions that must be treated more carefully. Though she tends to be very trusting with many things, she can be a bit wary of people because she has been taken advantage of in life. She is very careful about who she reveals her gift to, and she is careful about when she uses it and who she uses it on.

History: 1987(birth)- Nola Orleans was born out of wedlock to Roberto Orleans and Sasha Montclair. Though they were very much in love, they both thought that they were too young to be married, but when Roberto came home from a fishing trip one day, Sasha informed him that they were going to be having a baby. He was thrilled, and they started making plans for their new baby right away. They bought a small home in Portugal on the coast, so that Roberto could keep up with his business, and Nola’s birth was cause for much rejoicing for both of them, though their parents were less than thrilled and cut the young couple off unceremoniously.
1990(3 yrs)- Roberto and Sasha were finally married shortly after Nola’s third birthday in a romantic beach front wedding. Sasha walked down the isle holding Nola, and they kissed over her head. Though the two were never welcomed back in to their respective families, they couldn’t have been happier. Robert and Sasha decided to move to England shortly after their wedding, both to escape the persecution of their families and to give Nola the chance for a better education.
1993(6 yrs)- Nola started school and showed a promising grasp on all of her subjects, and was growing in to a social butterfly among her classmates. It seemed like she was constantly surrounded by other children, almost always playing with anyone who wanted to play with her. The one exception was Loren Adamson, a boy who was seven months older than her, and never let her forget it. Loren picked on Nola almost mercilessly, and the two seemed to hate each other. It was during this year that Nola’s father died during a fishing expedition at sea. Sasha was heartbroken, but remained strong for Nola’s sake and the two carried on with their lives as best they could.
1997(10 yrs)- One day during recess Nola was playing with Loren and some of his friends when Loren tripped over a rock and fell. When Nola went to help him up, she grabbed his hand and realized suddenly that she could hear everything that he was thinking. Shocked and scared, she let go of him and ran away. She was inconsolable for several days, and Sasha finally took her to see a therapist who discovered her unique gift. Nola was put in to a support group with other children who showed the same talents, though she always stood out among them because her gift was different. Instead of general clairvoyance, Nola could hear every thought and see every aspect of a person’s past, but she had to be touching them for it to work. Despite her struggle to accept herself, she remained a happy, up-beat child.
2000(13 yrs)- Nola and Loren started going steady sometime during their 8th grade year, and were almost inseparable after that. During the 8th grade dance, they snuck away and tried to jump the fence on to the athletic fields to get a better look at the night sky. Nola’s dress caught on one side of the fence and she lost her balance, catching her wrist on a broken link and cutting it open. The incident would leave her a permanent scar, but she and Loren always remembered it fondly.
2003(16 yrs)- Loren’s father, a British soldier, was killed in action and Loren withdrew completely from the world. He barely came to school, but somehow managed to keep passing grades, and he avoided Nola, very nearly breaking her heart. The two broke up for nearly two years, while Loren attempted to get himself back together.
2005(18 yrs)- On the night of their graduation, Nola and Loren spent the night together in a hotel, when they made love for the first time. Loren had enlisted in the army and was leaving as soon as he could to follow in his father’s footsteps. That night was one that would change both of their lives forever. Nola woke up in the middle of the night, knowing that she was pregnant with Loren’s child. She didn’t tell Loren until he was ready to ship out, scared that he wouldn’t follow his calling. Loren promised her that they would get married as soon as he came home.
2006(19 yrs)- Nola’s baby, Zane Adamson, died at 14 months old of SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome). Loren had returned and they were engaged to be married, but the death of their child was more than their relationship could bear. Nola moved back in with her mother and Loren very nearly vanished out of her life. They stayed in contact for a while, though it was never anything more than a brief phone call, and then they just stopped talking. She never found out what became of Loren, though she had heard that he continued in his military service.
2008(20 yrs)- After two years of moping around, Nola decided she had to do something, if only to get away from her mother’s incessant nagging. She faked being happy for a while, and eventually she was happy again. Nola found a job as a bar maid and waitress, and found that she really enjoyed working nights and listening to the stories that were thrown around at the pub. As long as she was in England, though, she would be plagued with memories, and so she started looking for new places. Eventually, she found a city that didn’t seem to make sense. It was a big city, but no one outside of it really seemed to know anything about it. But it had a bustling night life and plenty of work opportunities, so Nola packed up her life and moved.
