1949. RADIOHEAD

First TOTP studio appearance : "Creep", 16/9/93
Number of studio appearances : 5
Formed in Oxford by Thom Yorke (vocals/guitar), Jonny Greenwood (guitar), Colin Greenwood (bass), Ed O'Brien (guitar) and Phil Selway (drums), originally as 'On A Friday' but changed their name in 1991 to Radiohead (after the Talking Heads song "Radio Head").
I know it's always been 'cool' to like them, but I've never really 'got' Radiohead to be honest. The early singles were OK I suppose ("Anyone Can Play Guitar", "High & Dry" etc) but I never bought any of them and I couldn't get into the "OK Computer" or "Kid A" albums at all. They do their own thing though and always come back with something different so for that I applaud them.

Radiohead aren't my thing either, but i would say that "Creep" is, to my mind their best song. It's the only one of theirs i can clearly remember. Anything else of their's seems to go in one ear & out the other just as quick. Radiohead are definitely an aquired taste!
Ps.. Doesn't Thom Yorke look very much like actor John Simm from "Life On Mars"!

Does that mean Thom E. Yorke is also a dead ringer for Chris W. Barratt?
Their best album was "The Bends" IMO, but at least they have kept their feet on the ground with all the critical acclaim they've received. Thom Yorke's solo material last year was alright too.

I liked Idioteque from Kid A, which was quite good in a "we're copying Aphex Twin but not doing it as well" kind of way.

:o
I rate this group... really really rate them, and I'm not saying that just to be 'cool' (I can't help being cool I'm afraid, so I don't have to try ;) ) Creep's ok, the first album very patchy and not-much-cop.. The Bends is probably my favourite albums of theirs (it's attendant singles are all masterpieces - Just, High & Dry, Street Spirit & my fave Fake Plastic Trees) OK Computer not far behind (3 of the best singles/videos combinations of all time IMHO) and I've loved all the more experimental electronic stuff post-Kid A - I think it's cos everything they do they do with soul, so it never comes across as fake or unnecessarily clever, they aren't 'trying too hard' which is quite rare these days... and yes the solo album by Thom Yorke is also superb B)
Their political opinions are often as good as their music too

Radiohead ditch 'pay what you want' release style

I don't fancy paying £6 for the digital download (I like to have, hold and cherish the physical format) or over £30 quid for the vinyl / cd version. I would gladly pay between £7 and £10 for a standard CD version - what are they upto?

Anyone heard the album yet? I believe that a standard CD version is out at the end of March so that's good.
