No direct evidence but I suspect the hand of Peter Serafinowicz and Robert Popper - their spoofs have been big on accurate detail and the first series of Look Around You features a reference to a band called The Ombudsmen.

Yes, the Ombudsmen connection makes me wonder! Very good, and they seem to have overcome the problem I've had with my own mocks - that is, getting the correct font for the graphics.
