Updates && Announcements
Back to the real world. The admins will post here if there are going to be any changes in the site that will affect the role playing or otherwise. It may not even be as drastic as that, however - we will probably have polls and discussions here realted to the site.
In addition, we will also vote who will be the character of the month on this board, along with a variety of different awards.

Welcome to the Show
Welcome, one and all, to Play Tragic. In this forum you can meet your friendly staff and learn a few bits and pieces about them from their bios - and hopefully, when we have some members, we will be able to read their own stories about themselves. This is basically a place where we can all meet each other and get introduced.

As you have probably worked out, this is where all the plots and sub plots reside. When we get this site up and running, any events that involve the characters, or certain individuals in particular, will be archieved here.
And please, if you have a plot that you would like to include, let us know so that we can try to incorporate your ideas into the storyline.

Drama makes the world go wrong. For those of you that are experienced role players when it comes to Harry Potter based forums, this is probably a familiar sight for you. For those of you who are not so sure about what this board is for, here is the gist: Make Friends, Enemies, Lovers or Haters in the forum. Create some drama between characters and have fun introducing new possible plot lines between them.

Some of us leave secret lives and at times, the pressure to remain so cool and collected on the inside may kill us when all we want to go is scream and shout. If you are feeling a little bored or would like to scare more about your character, sign up with a journal and share that individual's secrets - if you want of course - it can be made confidencial.

Owlery
Don't particularly want to talk face to face? Owling another character is always useful if you want to keep your affairs as private as possible, or merely trying to keep in touch with old friends that you haven't had the time to see. But watch out - more and more owls have been reported missing. In these dangerous times, it is always good to double conceal your letters with a certain spell so prevent them from being read by another who may use whatever message inside against you.

Some of us love to write, and sometimes a role play just doesn't cut it. If you are eager to share certain fanficts that you have written, this is the place to publish your works, and maybe novels that you think deserve to be read.

Additionally, if you are desperate to try out a role play that is not in this era, this is the place to advertise and to do so. Marauders, Founders - jump through time periods and experiment with the different eras.

Diagon Alley
Tapping just the right brick in the wall behind the Leaky Cauldron pub in London ("Three up...two across...") will reveal an archway which is a portal into Diagon Alley, a long cobbled street where is to be found a strange and exciting assortment of shops and restaurants, some of which have tables outside with brightly colored umbrellas. Does Diagon Alley exist in Muggle reality? It would seem so, since Harry heard traffic outside his room in the Leaky Cauldron. Of course, that may be simply the fact that the Leaky Cauldron itself is in Muggle space, but the Alley on the other side of the magic portal is not.

Knockturn Alley is a dingy alleyway where the shops are devoted to Dark Arts items. The alley is connected to Diagon Alley near Gringotts. There are stores selling shrunken heads, live gigantic black spiders, and poisonous candles. Street vendors include an old witch with a tray full of whole human fingernails.

Platform Nine and Three-Quarters
"All you have to do is walk straight at the barrier between platforms nine and ten. Don't stop and don't be scared you'll crash into it, that's very important. Best do it at a bit of a run if you're nervous. Go on, go now..."

In order to catch the Hogwarts Express to Hogwarts, students must board at Platform Nine and Three Quarters at King's Cross Station. This platform is not visible to Muggles. In fact, you get to it by running toward the solid barrier between platforms nine and ten, full tilt. Instead of hitting the wall, you'll find yourself passing under a wrought iron sign that says "Platform Nine and Three Quarters." A scarlet steam engine waits there, with a string of red passenger carriages behind it, with a sign overhead saying "Hogwarts Express, 11 A.M." A guard sits near the ticket booth, monitoring the comings and goings through the portal, making sure that too many people don't do it at the same time and alarm the Muggles. On days when the train is set to leave for Hogwarts, the platform is filled with witches and wizards saying good bye to their children. Cats and owls are a common sight among the crowd.

Queerditch Marsh
"Tuesday. Hot. That lot from across the marsh have been at it again. Playing a stupid game on their broomsticks. A big leather ball landed in my cabbages."

Eight hundred years ago, a group of witches and wizards used an damp stretch of nettle-filled ground called Queerditch Marsh as a place to play a new game they had invented. This game involved broomsticks and a "big leather ball." Soon they added a couple of heavy rocks, bewitched to try to knock players off their brooms. The whole business was observed by a witch named Gertie Keddle who wrote about what she saw, in badly spelled Saxon, in her diary. That diary is now in the Museum of Quidditch in London. Queerditch Marsh itself has been made Unplottable.

It took two centuries more for the game of Quidditch to evolve to its present form, but the crude beginnings as well as the strange name came from Queerditch Marsh.

"Choose areas of deserted moorland far from Muggle habitation..."

Teams in Britain do not have their own home fields for matches. Instead, Quidditch stadiums have been erected on a number of deserted moors. Players and fans come from all over Britain to attend these matches. Various charms and magical effects have been used to prevent Muggles from accidentally discovering these stadiums.

St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries
"Doctors? Those Muggle nutters that cut people up? Nah, they're Healers."

Founded in late 1500s or early 1600s by Mungo Bonham, St. Mungo's Hospital is located in London. The Healers at St. Mungo's are trained and equipped to treat a wide variety of magic-related illnesses and injuries. The staff wear lime green robes. The St. Mungo's emblem is a wand and a bone, crossed.

St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries is reached via Purge and Dowse, Ltd. in Muggle London. Purge and Dowse, Ltd. is a red-brick, old-fashioned department store that has "Closed for Refurbishment" signs hanging on its doors. One speaks to the ugly dummy in the front window, who will nod its assent and beckon you to enter. In a process very similar to how one gets onto Platform 9 and 3/4, one walks into the window.
St. Mungo's consists of six floors. Inside the glass display window/entrance is a reception area.

The Leaky Cauldron
A small, shabby-looking inn on Charing Cross Road, London, sandwiched between a big book shop and a record store. The Leaky Cauldron is apparently not in Diagon Alley itself; it does serve as a "bridge" between the two worlds, however. The pub was built by Daisy Dodderidge around 1500 "to serve as a gateway between the non-wizarding world and Diagon Alley."
The landlord, bald and toothless, is named Tom.
There are a number of rooms available.

Dungeons and Sublevels
Cold, damp and dreary are a few words used to describe the lower levels of Hogwarts Castle. This is not viewed as one of the school's finest attractions, but its maze like corridors and endless rooms seem to captivate the odd student. Still, it is generally forbidden for students to go wandering around the darker regions unattended for, especially if they are not heading to their potions classes or – if they are in Slytherin – the Slytherin Common Room; all of which reside on this dim lit floor.

Entrance Hall
Double oak front doors, opening to the west. Large, cavernous room, lit by torches, with ceiling so high it's barely visible. Wide marble staircase opposite the front doors, leads up to first floor. Double doors to the right, lead into the Great Hall. On the east wall are two doors, one on either side of the staircase. To the north of the staircase is a door leading down a flight of steps to the first dungeon level. To the south is a door leading to the Hufflepuff common room and the kitchens. On the left is a door leading to a smaller antechamber where First Years wait to be sorted.

Four giant hourglasses - one for each House - stand in niches in a corner opposite the main doors. Each hourglass is filled with gemstones rather than sand, one gemstone in the lower bulb for each House Point currently held by that House. Gryffindor's contains rubies, Ravenclaw's sapphires, and Slytherin's emeralds. Hufflepuff's hourglass contains some yellow gemstones.

Classes
Classes at Hogwarts are taught in a variety of locations about the castle. Some, such as Charms, are taught in classrooms inside the castle. Others take place in the greenhouses, in the dungeons, at the top of a tower, or even outside on the grounds.
A booming bell sounds throughout the castle and across the lawns to signal the end of class.

Library
The library contains tens of thousands of books on thousands of shelves. The different sections include an Invisibility Section, a section on dragons and the Restricted Section at the very back, barred by a rope. Students need a signed note of permission from a teacher to peruse the Restricted Section, as it holds books about powerful Dark subject matter that is never taught at Hogwarts, and is only used by older students studying advanced Defence Against the Dark Arts. Books in the Hogwarts library may be put on hold and the student's name added to a waiting list. Chocolate and presumably all other food is forbidden in the library, which closes at 8 p.m.

Irma Pince is the librarian. She guards the books fiercely, and has been known to put unusual jinxes in the books, to make sure that they are not mistreated.

Towers
The highest parts of Hogwarts and arguably the most popular spots for students to hang out - either with a couple of friends, or just on their lonesomes; in cosy place where they can clear their minds and relax.

Luckily, Hogwarts has several towers, two of which are home to two of Hogwarts' houses, and one which acts as an owlery for the school's fleet of feathered fowls.

Common Rooms
Students at Hogwarts are grouped into four houses: Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin. When the students arrive on September 1 of their first year, they travel from the railway station in Hogsmeade to Hogwarts castle by means of a fleet of small boats, led by Hagrid. They are brought into the Entrance Hall, where they are met by McGonagall, who explains the house system:

Each house has its own noble history and each has produced outstanding witches and wizards. While you are at Hogwarts, your triumphs will earn your house points, while any rulebreaking will lose house points. At the end of the year, the house with the most points is awarded the House Cup, a great honour.

Hogwarts Grounds
"You can't Apparate inside the Hogwarts grounds, how often do I have to tell you?"

Hogwarts is hidden from Muggle eyes. The castle is bewitched so that if a Muggle looks at it, all they see is a moldering old ruin with a sign over the entrance saying DANGER, DO NOT ENTER, UNSAFE. It might also be Unplottable. The castle is "a huge, rambling, quite scary-looking castle, with a jumble of towers and battlements.

Hogwarts castle is located atop a cliff overlooking a lake. The lake is to the south of the castle and the front foors face generally to the west. There is a small underground inlet, it's entrance covered with hanging ivy, that leads to a stony beach below the castle at the base of the cliff. From here, a path leads up to the front door of the castle. A road runs around the lake to the village of Hogsmeade, where the railway station is located. From the descriptions, Hogwarts would seem to be in Scotland. The grounds are quite extensive, taking in a large forest and enough open space that folks in the castle never noticed the firey breath and roaring of group of four angry dragons kept in a paddock near the forest for the Triwizad Tournament. There are entrances to the grounds, which seems to imply that there is a wall or fence enclosing the entire area. The main entrance gate is flanked by pillars on which stand statues of winged boars.

Bathrooms
A girl's favorite place. Although these are just ordinary bathrooms, girls turn these spots into far more interesting quarters; writing bitchy commentaries on the walls, pit stopping in the bathrooms catch up on the gossip with a few friends before they go to class. Unlike the boys who try to keep their stays short, the ladies of Hogwarts could spend hours in the bathrooms, powdering their noses and applying their makeup. Oh well – to each his own.

Corridors
A moving tapestry of Barnabas the Barmy, depicting his foolish attempt to train trolls for the ballet, hangs on the 7th floor of Hogwarts Castle, opposite the entrance to the Room of Requirement. That stretch of corridor has a window on one end and a man-sized vase at the other.

There's a statue of Lachlan the Lanky on the seventh floor to the right of the top of the stairs, between the stairs and the Fat Lady's portrait.
There is another corridor on the seventh floor is the location of the gargoyle which guards the entrance to the Headmaster's office.

Azkaban
"Most go mad in there, and plenty stop eating in the end. They lose the will to live. You could always tell when a death was coming, because the Dementors could sense it, they got excited."

The Department of Magical Law Enforcement maintains a prison on a tiny island far out in the icy waters of the North Sea. It's called Azkaban fortress or simply Azkaban.

Azkaban is a terrible place. The prisoners there are guarded by Dementors, horrible creatures who have been described as "sightless soul-sucking fiends." They feed on positive emotions, which means that after spending much time in the prison, the prisoners lose all hope and all good feelings and thoughts. They prisoners are forced to relive the darkest, most horrible memories of their lives. Some go mad, others simply despair and die.

Château de la Déesse
The Castle of the Goddess

Not a stones throw away from the river Themes, this ancient fort was originally built by the French in the early sixteenth century as a shelter for important diplomats and royals on their way to England from their tiring journey from France, primarily to stock up and rest before continuing the rest of the way to the capital. Currently however, it is now a crumbling mass of eroded stone and brick; its walls now a moulded pile around the large fortress.
It is here that the Order hosts its meetings, choosing this old building because of its isolated position; away from any main towns, or possible distractions that may interfere with their work. Many members would have preferred a more updated establishment to be their base, but no one can deny that the old fort still retains some of its earlier beauty. The main halls within have still retained some of its original shape and colour; the walls painted a dark mauve in some areas with a few tapestries and pictures hanging from the sides, giving colour to the generally dull structure. The surroundings are particularly pleasant; meadows for miles on end, with only a few roads marring the greenery in the distance and the faint outline of a large farm across the other side of the river.

Hogsmeade
"They make a fuss about Hogsmeade, but I assure you, Harry, it's not all it's cracked up to be. All right, the sweetshop's rather good, and Zonko's Joke Shop's frankly dangerous, and yes, the Shrieking Shack's always worth a visit, but really, Harry, apart from that, you're not missing anything."

Hogsmeade is the only entirely wizarding village in Britain. It's a picturesque village of little thatched cottages and shops. During the holiday season, enchanted candles hang in the trees. Hogwarts is located quite near the village; a road runs around the school grounds to Hogsmeade Station, where the Hogwarts Express stops to disembark the students at the start of term. According to tradition, Hogsmeade was founded about the same time as Hogwarts by Hengist of Woodcroft, who was fleeing persecution by Muggles.

Riddle Estate
A large manor situated on the outskirts of Little Hangleton, this crumbling building is well hidden behind the thick brush and overgrown vegetation of the gardens, concealed to the very tips by a sea of willow trees and oaks. Many of the occupants of this small town rarely venture near the top of the hill where Riddle Manor is located, hearing tales that the stone fortress harbours a terrible secret. Of course they believe that the house is empty and has been deserted for quite some time now; however a few villagers claimed to see a light on in the very corner of the castle-like home on occasions, but no one takes such statements seriously. Tom Riddle’s estate is the perfect place for private affairs to take place. Its secluded site in Little Hangleton make it an ideal location for fellow Knights to apparate to. The house hosts several rooms that Tom keeps available for Knights to stay in when they are needed for an extended period of time. Despite the gloomy ambience this manor projects and the less-than-upbeat town it’s positioned adjacent to, it is a pleasant enough stay; the massive library and many secret compartments of Riddle Manor keep its guests entertained for long enough – even its unkempt garden has its own appeal.

Beauxbatons Academy of Magic
Known more affectionately by it’s students as L’Academie Beauxbatons, this prestigious school has held within it’s walls some of the most famous French wizards of it’s time. Atop a modest hill sits a tall, delicate castle built in the days of Romeo & Juliette. Students and parents alike take satisfaction in the school’s clean campus, strict academic schedule, and acclaimed teaching professionals. Seen more commonly than fine magical charms are the school’s pale blue uniforms. Most definitely, Beauxbatons is the pride of wizarding France.

Still as beautiful as ever... save for that nasty wall that had been up since 1969, dividing East and West. So, in the muggle world, Germany was not one of the most popular places to be at the time, but if you are ever there you should take some time to wonder around the streets and get a feel for the city; maybe visit the museums and absorb Germany's extensive history.

Catacombs
Unlike the glamorous vampires, Lycans have always led the underdog life. Ever since their clans migrated here from the four corners of the earth, they have taken refused in tunnel systems; the net work of caves in the mountains being their previous residence. Now, these beasts take refuge in the underground burial site in the forgotten catacombs which shared the underground with the sewage line. Not very pleasant, but an millennium of hiding and sulking in darkness means that few of them no any better. Although the catacombs are their main headquarters, much of Fenrir's immediate clan – those that had been with him since the beginning – tend to linger in the Forbidden Forest, even if it isn't the full moon.

Causa Mortis
A beautiful, delicate chateau on the outskirts of North London, is the main Causa Mortis's headquarters. Vampires are notorious for their love all things fine, expensive and in the cliché, gothic style, and this colossal manor is no exception to the rule. This massive home sits on twelve aches of untamed land, concealing much of the castle-like structure which lies in the central area of the plot.
Although it's exterior is a rather dull with the droll, unpainted walls and shutterless windows, the interior betrays the tired look of the stone estate.
Ebony painted walls decorated with expensive, ancient portraits and metal displays are one of the features you will find in the vampires' home, along with exquisite old, French furniture and Persian rugs scattered in every room as if they were just common rugs. There are at least one hundred rooms in this fortress, and you can easily get lost in the winding hallways and narrow stairways.

These can be found anywhere in England; on the outskirts, or right in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the cities.

For wizards and witches of a reasonable income, houses are the best choice, although they are not always easy to find. In general, it is likely to find decent-sized homes more on the outskirts of London rather than in the cities themselves, which may cause problems for some - especially those who are not legally able to apparate.

Purebloods or extraordinarily wealthy families are the only class of people able to afford such lavish homes. Generally, these mini-castles are passed on from generation to generation, much like the Malfoy's Estate or the Lestrange's which makes them very hard to find and to purchase, especially when you consider how old many of them are.

Looking for someone to share a place with - look no further. Post adverts here if you have got your eye set on a certain residence but need a little help sharing out the costs of running it.

Dead End
Dead topics. -sniff-

So sad.

Everything that has died or has been trashed will be sent here, sort of like a graveyard of sorts so that we can look back and read through old posts and the like. If we are mistaken and have put a topic here by accident, please inform one of the admins via PM.
