Dropping By Home, open to all the Forsters

Amelia pulled up to her house and shut off the engine, sitting in the car for a moment and just staring at the house that she had grown up in. She remembered so many things that had happened there, both good and bad. And then she had gone to University, and when she had moved back, she had gotten an apartment with Helena.

Then Amelia shook herself out of it, and got out of her car, not bothering to lock it. She was home, after all. She walked into the house without knocking, and walked down to the hall to the living room, plopping on the sofa and picking up a magazine. Eventually somebody would realize that she was home.

Nora had been in the music room, practicing the piano. The sound of the music, combined with the fact that the door was closed, prevented her from hearing the noise of her sister arriving home. So she played on for a few minutes longer, assuming that everybody in the house was still occupied with his or her entertainment of choice. At the end of the piece, though, she paused, and chanced to hear somebody in the living room. Nora had no idea who it was, but figured she could use a break from practicing, so she folded up her sheet music and ventured back into the living room.

"Hey Amelia." Nora hadn't known that her sister would be coming home today. It was a nice surprise. "Anybody else know you're here yet?"

Amelia noticed that the piano quieted, and figured that she would be discovered soon. Oh well, that was fine by her. If she hadn't wanted to be discovered, she wouldn't have come into the house at all; she would have gone to her apartment. But she liked to drop by randomly, to make it seem like the old days, when she had lived there.

Amelia stood up as Nora walked into the room and hugged her little sister. She and Nora hadn't been as close as she and Helena, but she was still closer to Nora than she was to the younger sisters. And she missed having her little sister around all of the time.

"Hey Nora. No one else knows I'm here." Amelia sat down again, crossing one long leg over the other. Height and aged seemed to go together for the sisters, leaving Amelia at the tall end.

She smiled at Nora, leaning back and studying her sister. "So, how have you been? Anything interesting happen around here lately?"

"Perhaps that's a good thing," Nora commented. "If everybody knew you were here you'd likely be mobbed by them all." If it were her who had just arrived home, on the other hand, she would probably just get greeted by brief "Hi"s and limpid waves. But, what could she do? Nothing. That was just how it was at the Forsters' house. The sisters who stood out got all the attention. Maybe, if she kept at her piano, she'd be able to make something of it; then they'd finally notice her.

"I've been pretty well, thanks," Nora replied, sitting down on the couch. "Just the usually sorts of things. Mum obsessing about everything, Madeleine and Livvy being... well, Madeleine and Livvy. I wish something exciting would happen for once." She sighed, but then continued. "How have you been?"

Amelia laughed. "I would only be mobbed because Livvy and Madeleine would think that I had something for them, and Mum would want to interrogate me about my life." She rolled her eyes, sitting back more comfortable in the chair. "But I do have something for you."

On the coffee table was a book that she had brought for Nora. It was a piano book of a lot of the Beatles songs, and she was pretty sure that Nora didn't have it. Amelia picked it up and handed it to Nora, smiling. "I saw it in London, and I knew that you had to have it." She tended to think of her sisters a lot, and now that she was out of the house, she spoiled them.

"Something exciting will happen soon enough, Nora," Amelia reassured her sister. "And I've been...well. Incredibly well." She had been busy with Will, and that had kept her blissfully happy.
