Having to control a party of guys, and cutting the action into pause and play chunks is exactly why I disliked all the other BioWare RPG's, so it's unlikely that I will enjoy this much in single player. I will, however, buy it if I get a chance, and at least try it (though I know inevitably I will end up cursing my retarded fucking group members), and check the multi-player out. Neverwinter Nights 1 became extremely popular because it was a relatively simple game to mod. In with an awesome module system for anyone to use, and you got an instant classic. Some of the mods made for it where damn near MMO-like, able to host several hundred players at once. Unfortunately, it no longer runs on "modern" hardware, which is quite sad considering I can still run a game from 1994. The way the announcer made it sound, it will be quite in-depth, but hopefully will not be too "involved" with itself -- a problem with Oblivion was that the awful voice acting was a very integrated part of the game, which means mods that added new lines or characters looked "dumb" or "out of sync" with the world because the characters just stared at you with their ugly faces from hell.

Additionally, the inclusion of an MMO-like UI was a genious attempt to pull people from the MMO genre. I can say that the MMO-UI created by Everquest (and subsequently copied by every MMO to date) is quite handy. NWN and BG games actually had a sub-program to bind all sorts of spells to different keys (though they included spell slots). The down side is MMO UI's end up being very cluttered looking, leaving me with the impression that I am playing "through" the interface, not "with" the interface, if you follow.

Anyways it's 3:30AM and I've been working in the Sandbox 2 editor so I'm going to go to bed now. Bye.

M.

I think pausing during battle and makeing ur choices then is great for the strategic point and that u don't have to rely on the ai. The most current bioware game I played was Mass Effect and the ai was actually good in that game

I like the whole hive mind concepts of these types of RPGs (i like that you can play it like your several people, being controlled by one master mind). Its easier to keep track of things like PEOPLE DIEING, as well as it adds a more strategic feel to the game. the only time ive seen this go wrong was maybe NWN2s because its AI is god awful, and Mass Effect came close at times to it as well, otherwise, ive loved it, cant wait

I swear the AI in Baulders Gate was more reactive. Sadly, battles in BG could often go:

Walk walk walk *battle music* on shi- *ded* :(

QUOTE (Pudge @ Jul 21 2008, 10:11 PM)
and Mass Effect came close at times

I'm gonna have to disaggree with u on that one, the ai for me were really good unless u made them equip the wrong guns. For example when they have shotguns out when ur trying to take out snipers. My point with that is that bioware is learning from their mistakes in the past. So we can expect for the ally ai (when you need it) in Dragon Age to be improved than their previous projects. I heard the character creation system will be similar to the one in mass effect but even more complex.

as long as I don't need 2 8800's or 9600's to get a decent framerate with decent res and texturing i'm got no problem with it

Bioware is win. However, I do hope they do something to mix up the fantasy type setting that we have seen a billion times before. This is my only gripe about the game.

it's going to be a unique rpg in a unique world with a unique magic and fighting system. Just like every other rpg. :P

I've got no worries about it.
