1999 AD – Humanity’s isolation from the stars ended when a massive alien spacecraft, Macross, crashed into the South Pacific. Threatened by the inevitable encounter with an advanced and hostile alien civilization, the United Nations drafted a plan to bind the world under a single global government – by force if necessary. Nationalist militias rose up in opposition to the new world order, and the world was engulfed in civil war. Whatever the United Forces and the Anti-Unification League could not take, they burned.

2009 AD – Two years following the defeat of Anti-UN forces, the fears of the United Nations were realized. Having traced the path of the Macross across the galaxy, the Vrlitwhai space fleet of the Zentraedi – an alien race of warlike giants – attacked Earth. In a single battle, the world was scoured and humanity all but exterminated. Fewer than one million humans managed to find refuge aboard the Macross, where they waged a vicious war of survival against the Zentraedi.

2010 AD – The Earth-Zentraedi conflict concluded after a year of brutal fighting with a milestone peace treaty between the new United Earth Government and the Vrlitwhai Fleet. Under this prosperous new partnership with the Zentraedi, the endangered human population replenished itself and looked to the stars; in order to prevent extinction by another hostile alien force, the United Government initiated a colonization program with the intention of spreading the race across the galaxy. Massive exploration and migration fleets were assembled. Earth became an interstellar power.

The universe, however, is a dark and dangerous place. Potentially millions of rogue Zentraedi fleets still lurked in the void in search of a new war, disgruntled colonists left far from Earth formed militant groups or pirate bands that preyed on the innocent… and even greater terrors awaited the infant human race as it stretched into the unknown. To protect Earth’s colonists from these threats, the United Space Forces - UN Spacy - was formed.

2052 AD – With the defeat of a species of alien vampires known as the Protodeviln and the liberation of their slave army, the final major threat to humanity’s existence was removed and the galaxy has grown peacefully quiet. No longer tamed by fear of what lay beyond the fringes of human exploration, colonists begin to question the increasingly despotic measures of the United Earth Government and the relevance of its military arm, UN Spacy. It begins quietly at first, an orderly administrative election on the outer world of Journey’s End where a strongly anti-Earth government is swept into power. It ends in rebellion.

2055 - For the first time in fifty years, humanity has turned on itself. Can the men and women of the United Forces secure Earth’s power in the far reaches of the galaxy? Or will the Journeyman movement realise its dream of a free Sigma Federation?
