CHARACTER RULES ‘Mary sue’
Basically, a Mary sue character is a character who has everything ever thought of for a roleplay character. For example, no parents, animagi, veela, perfect grades, patronus, rich, werewolf, etc.
No parents
Now, we all must remember that, even though this is a school of wizards, they still have to abide by some basic muggle rules. Now I'm not talking about laws, like don't kill someone, because wizard's have their own personal way of dealing with that - but I'm talking about the fact that we've discovered that many characters may have no parents. Now this is fine, if you wish that there was a terrible accident in your character's life, far be it from us to interfere. But they must have a guardian. I mean - they're still at school! They're not old enough to be living by themselves. They must have someone to sign their forms. We see examples of this in the books, where Harry cannot go to Hogsmeade without having his form signed. Obviously, after having their parents die, Muggles would organize some sort of adoption service, or send them to live with their next of kin. It's just common sense.
Just another note, Pureblood families seem to follow Catholicism (ironies of all ironies) and usually have some sort of Godmother or Godfather set in place.
Not everyone’s parents are murdered, or slaughtered by the dark lord.
Wealth
Not everyone’s character is rich. Not every slytherin is rich. Slytherins are placed into that house because of their personality, and more likely the fact that they are pureblood. Not all purebloods are rich. The richest families in the Wizarding world are stated as the Blacks and the Malfoys. Now that the Black family is dead, it is now the Malfoys. Do not say that your character’s family has more money then the Malfoys, because they don’t.
Animagi/Veela/Werewolf
For one thing, it is very very hard for people to become Animagi. That means, not everyone is an animagi. Of course, if you have a good reason, and history behind them being an Animagi, you will be sccepted. Don’t come up to the admins and go, ‘Oh, they studied hard for a long time!’ No. That’s not a good reason why. Also remember that not everyone can be a Veela, or for the love of god a werewolf. You saw the way Remus had to hide his form, so why would the school board allow student werewolves to run around campus?
Pets.
Not everyone has some exotic pet. In the letter, you are allowed to have a pet owl, cat, frog, etc. I don’t think they’d allow you to have a dog, wolf, or whatever. If you do have another pet, such as a small snake or something, it should be kept in secret. You wouldn’t want to be caught wandering around the halls with a pet that’s not allowed, would you? Well, not unless you’d like a professor to take it away.
User Posted Images
Now, we've noticed a recent rash of user posted images in the character profile - which is fine. We like to make them look pretty. But when choosing an image for your character, please consider a few things....Not every character in this school is a model. Some of them look normal. Plus, unless they're a teacher, they're all young. The oldest person here is about eighteen, meaning that using a twenty year old model for your character is a little odd. Also, try to make them look semi-normal? They're a kid at school, not a girl at a Miss United States pagent. It's fine for them to be pretty, but let's try not to go overboard.
