    TEACHERS
I have a list of canon teachers from Hogwarts, but they don't really have to be those exact teachers. We could always have a lot of made-ups teach at Hogwarts, but I think it'd be more accurate if we had some people play some of the canons.
    Now.

Give me comments on this. :]

Here's a list of the canons. [I've placed links on what lexicon has noticed about them.]

    WOMEN
  • Madam Hooch (Flying)
  • Minerva McGonagall (Transfig)
  • Irma Pince (Librarian)
  • Poppy Pomfrey (Nurse)
  • Professor Sinistra (Astronomy)
  • Professor Sprout (Herbology)
  • Sibyll Trelawney (Divination)
  • Professor Vector (Arithmancy)

    MEN
  • Professor Binns (History of Magic)
  • Argus Filch (Caretaker)
  • Albus Dumbledore (Headmaster)
  • Professor Flitwick (Charms)
  • Rubeus Hagrid (Keeper of the Keys and Grounds)
  • Professor Kettleburn (Care of Magical Creatures)
  • Severus Snape (Potions) [taken]
  • Firenze (Divination)

The Muggle Studies/Ancient Runes/DADA teacher is apparently not mentioned, so those can be made-ups. :] Although, for DADA, the professor should probably be important, seeing as there is a pattern with the books.

As you can see, I added in some staff members as well, seeing as we need them too. Of course, additional staff could be needed as well. I remember some members talking about having a student councilor or something, so I've decided on a list of staff positions. Of course, I'd like to hear suggestions!

  • Student Councilor
  • Chef [Perhaps to help the house elves]
  • Extra Nurses
  • Assistant Teachers
  • Music Teacher?

    Here's a form:

Note: By Working Style, I mean how they work. Are they cruel teachers like snape, are they a little bit odd? Are they hands on, or are they boring?
Note 2: By where you'd get your material from, I mean basically websites with Harry Potter subject info on it. Just so that we know that you know what to teach, I'd like to see if you have any good sites to rant on about so you'd have a reason to start a class.
A great site is: www.hp-lexicon.org But I'd like to see if you have any others.

    Currently our Professor list includes:
  • Severus Snape (Headmaster)

Name of Character: Efa 'Effie' Noah for Student Counciller
Why you'd be suited to play this character: because she's an oc, therefore I have complete control
Working Style: Cheerful, compossionate, understanding. Effie is a nurturer and cares very much for the students. She has a younger sister so she's used to dealing with pretty uch anything that can be dealt out. She's also not really a buddy-buddy cool teacher. although she's nice she won't always side with the students. She's very much a 'big-sister' personality.
Sample Post: Efa's red pumps clicked along the castle floor, early morning sunshine creating a yellow brick road right to her office door. But unlike Dorothy, Effie was feeling right at home. She was dressed in a plain, belted black suit dress with a funky red coral necklace around her neck, it was a gift from her sister Wynne. Her red hair bounces off her shoulders, she always such a spring in her step in the morning.

She turned to face the door of her office, tapping the lock quickly with her wand. The door swung out to reveal her sunshine flooded office and the welcoming smell of cimminon and coffee. House elves always delivered her breakfast to her office since she had to be there so early. Three hours before classes begin, so that students have the oppertunity to visit her before their friends wake up. But despite all the tactics used to make her office accessable to students in need it was usually quiet. After all, rumour mills are viscious. Still, Ms. Noah's was a cool enough staff member many students were able to pass themselves off as simple visitors as opposed to kids who need council. Effie turned to breakfast, as responsible as she tries to be she never could start her morning without a little dish of bread pudding. She had such a decadent sweet tooth. She stabbed a piece of pudding and stirred it around in the warm rum sauce, letting the happy cinnimon smell fill the room and little more.

And so she spent her morning that way, enjoying her bread pudding, sipping her mocha and flicking through the Daily Prophet. Just like she spent every morning, patiently waiting on the off chance she might have a needy visitor.

Name of Character:

Jeremy Stone. {Assistant position for COMC with there approval.}

Why you'd be suited to play this character:

Well I’m Haley. Hear me roar. I think Jeremy would love an assistant position and be pretty good at it. Also Jeremy would be something for the ladies to look at.

Working Style:

Jeremy would be playful with the students but would still uphold some sort of rules. He would also be a person who is willing to aid the Professor as needed.

Sample Post:

Jeremy sighed as he dug some Flobberworms out of the wet soil. He then grabbed a whole handful and threw them in the silver bucket that was next to him. He would need to get a good number of the slimy worms for the next few lessons. Jeremy was always the one that ended up doing all the dirty work for Hagrid. He was the Assistant after all. It was his job to assist the professor and that’s just what he did. Jeremy originally wanted to be an Asstsaint for potions but that position was filled so he took Care of Magical Creatures.

Jeremy let his eyes rest on the medium sized silver bucket. It was half-way full with Flobberworms. Jeremy threw one more handful in and then stood up. He then brushed the dirt off of his black pants. He then glanced down at his white button up shirt and sighed. He had ruined yet another one. Jeremy started to unbutton the shirt but decided against it because it was freezing outside. He then grabbed the bucket by the handle and headed over to Hagrid’s shack.

When he had got to the door he knocked loudly and waited for the door to open up. “I’ve got the Flobberworms.” He called out nonchalantly. He then wiped his shoes off on the ground; they were also caked with mud and dirt.

Since our current music professor has been absent for nearly two months now, I figure that she isn't likely coming back and leaving us with someone to teach the music class. If that is not the case or is a problem, let me know and I'll pick a different position.

Name of Character: Randy Harper

Why you'd be suited to play this character: He's an original character, I assume that's rather self-explanatory.

Working Style: Randy prefers a hands-on approach to teaching as he believes that it will be of a greater benefit to his students. As this is music class, there would be little work involved aside from small lectures on the history of various instruments. Therefore, homework would be a rarity. Even when there is work to complete, he is very relaxed in terms of deadlines and is more than willing to extend it for a reasonable excuse. The start of the class typically beings with him allowing each student to play their instrument, giving him the chance to see how they have improved since the previous class. He'll know if they've been practicing this way. He also operates on a first-name basis with his students, hating being referred to as Professor. Forming friendships with students and talking to them as such doesn't bother him in the least. He loves his work and wants his students to enjoy the class.

Sample Post: Music always had, and continues to be, and important aspect of Randy's life. To him it was more than entertainment, it was a creative outlet and an expression of the soul. For as long as he could remember, he had a love for it. The muggle rock music he listened to during his youth was the spark that he needed to develop a life long love of the art. It was only fitting that he do something regarding music in his life. The Quidditch days were long gone and music was his other main talent. Since he could no longer play, he decided to pursue the second option. As he had no connections, forming a band was out of the question. That only left teaching, and he knew exactly where to go. Hogwarts had kind enough to offer him employment and it was also where his two younger siblings had their education. How embarrassing it would be if he should have to teach one of them.

His mind snapped back to the present as he watched more and more students fill in the vacant chairs. It pleased him to see the number of students who shared his love for music. Hopefully they didn't take it simply for the fact it would be an easy grade. A slight smirk formed on his lips as he noticed his sister, this was going to be fun indeed. If any were tardy, he wouldn't give them trouble, only a mere warning next time about the fun times that they would be missing. It was a rule for him to wait at least one minute after the class actually started, to give a chance to any students who needed that extra minute. Now he could begin as the number of students in the room matched the number on the list given him by Dumbledore. "Welcome to music class," he greeted, his tone quite cheerful and energetic. "I will be your Professor for this semester and hopefully for the years to come. My name is Randy Harper, I'm sure some of you know my sister." He made sure to point her out, not to embarrass the girl, but to send a warning that if anyone messed with her, they would be messing with him.

With his introduction out of the way, he turned to the chalkboard and wrote his name in neat hand writing. His eyes turned to his prized guitar resting on the floor. The smirk widened at the sight, knowing how much he would be enjoying himself. He picked up the instrument, turning around to face his students as he struck a few cords. The sound enimating from them was brilliant. "Hear that? That, my friends, is music. I'm sure that many of you here today play an instrument and you will have the chance to express your own talents each day in front of everyone. At least that way you're motivated to practice as I'm sure you don't want to embarrass yourselves in front of your peers. Throughout the year you will learn about these various instruments and forms of music. We'll be practicing daily both individually and as a band so that by the end of the year you'll all have the potential to become rockers or whatever style of music suits you best. We'll begin today's class with practice and then an introduction on some of the more classical instruments." Every student here had the potential to become the next Mozart or form a band bigger than The Beatles. It was his job to help them reach that potential.

Where you'd get your material from: Since this is a music class, I'd get my information from the one and only Wikipedia and my own imagination.

Professor Viridis

Name of Character: Professor Viridis for the Herbology professor position
Why you'd be suited to play this character: I've always had a knack for Herbology. As I've roleplayed as a herbology professor before, I know how to teach it, and what I'm going to be teaching. Also, I'm a very dedicated RPer and very experienced in this area of teaching.
Working Style: I have lots of open discussion in my class. Raised hands aren't necessary, but appreciated. I like to give the students a chance to learn hands-on style rather than hands-on-a-book style. While discussions are literally every class, I do keep them under control. I make sure that we stay within the guidelines of Herbology, make sure to respect everyone's responses and opinions, and never let the class get too out of control. As we are basically working in an uncontrollable environment, some things may get out of hand. But I promise that I make sure my students never forget a lecture, get their homework in on time, and do not accept tardies. I am willing to deduct house points and even assign detentions if the situation calls for such measures.
Sample Post:

Professor Viridis walked into the classroom, looking around at all of the students. He made his way through the center of the class between the desks and found his way to the front of the class. "Good afternoon students. My name is Professor Viridis." He said this before turning around to face the class again. He gave the chalkboard a quick tap with his wand, and words began to scrawl across the board. In big letters across the top appeared the words "Venomous Tentacula" and below it came a breif description about the plant. "Today class, we are going to learn about this dangerous, and somewhat strange plant." He looked around at their faces. "Can any of you tell me some special qualities that this plant possesses?" He smiled and put his hands together. Seeing that nobody raised their hands he turned around and began to write on the board, sketching quickly a picture of two different kinds of plants, or so it would seem.

"The one on the left is a Venomous Tentacula in pre-adulthood. Notice that it has yet to develop the dangerous spines that the adult one has." He pointed to the second, bigger, and much more dangerous looking plant. "Also, see that the smaller plant has this large bud growing out of it. And that the bud is covered in eyes." He took out his wand and pointed it at a small box on his desk. The top popped off and Professor Viridis reached his hand inside and withdrew a small handfull of small, black, shaking seeds. "I'm going to give you all one seed and I want you to take extra care of them; it is afterall an extremely dangerous plant."

He handed out one seed to each student and then showed them the proper planting procudures. "First and foremost, you have to give them very little care as an adult; but while they are growing to adulthood they must be most taken care of." He walked behind his desk and took out a seed for himself. "Now students, I want you all to grow your own, and I do not want to see any of you using any growth spells on them, trust me, I will know." And at that he took out his wand and pointed it at the seed on his desk and it suddenly began to shake more violently and a vine burst out of the side of it. It proceded to grow until there was not a seed there, but a wiggling, snapping plant. "Now, as children you will see that they have these little eyes. About twelve of them, give or take. They need these eyes to see their prey, or predators. As they grow the eyes fall off and become black, these are the seeds you have now. As adults they cannot see, but their hearing is exceptional. Also their vine reach triples, so I wouldn't ever want to run into any of these things unaware." He smiled. They only live for about a week before wilting away, but the eyes they shed grow into eleven to thirteen new plants, and those plants grow into more plants, and so on and so fourth. Some venomous tentacula plants can travel many miles in a single week; almost like a great reef on land. He smiled again. "While they may be venomous, they do serve a very important role in our community. Do any of you know what that is?" he looked about the class again. A Gryffindor 6th year raised his hand. "You there. How about telling us."

The student shifted a bit then spoke. "Well, it's used as a repellant against large beasts." He talked with an air of arrogance. "Correct." said Professor Viridis. "Another common use, when treated correctly, is an anti-burn potion. But be warned, drinking this potion will make your insides burn as if on fire. It should only be applied to the skin and never eaten." He emphasized the word never.

"Now class, you have about ten minutes to get your plants potted, and if done correctly, they should start sprouting within minutes, and reaching childhood before you are dismissed. Now everyone do your best!" And he took a seat at his desk and began to write down in his teacher's notebook, sketching a picture of the still wiggling plant on his desk.

Name of Character: Professor Perry Dickinson for Medical Magic 101
Why you'd be suited to play this character: Because I based his character off of my favorite character from teh show Scrubs. There is a part of me that is scarily sarcastic sometimes and I can be very much like Dr. Cox (the character Dickinson is based off of) most of the time.
Working Style: Sarcastic, demeaning and sometimes just plain mean. Professor Dickinson is a brilliant man but his personality and his humongous ego get in the way of what little kindness he does possess. Her uses fear and his "Crazy Eyes" death glare to inspire motivation in his students whether they like it or not. He normally gives his students nick names rather than refering to them by tey're actual names but this is not at all endearing to Perry. It does not mean he likes a certain student or does not like them. He uses nicknames such as "Newbie" and a vast assortment of girl's names for the males in his classes, "Barbie", "Teresa", "Skipper", "Kelly" and "Christina" for the girls seeing those are all names of barbie and her friends. He'll elongate or shorten the nick names (Ex: Barb, Barbiclious) whenever he pleases and doean't really care too much about what the student thinks about their nick name. It's how he demeans them. He has a few special nick names. For example, he has named Neville "Nervous Guy" because he is in fact... nervous. He'll only call a student by their actual name if they have done something to gain his respect and that isn't easy.
Sample Post:
Perry Dickinson couldn't believe he was still doing this. 'This' being teaching little incompetent imbeciles how to save their asses with magic on the field or just in everyday life. He had the knowledge and the inspiration to teach but god forgive him, he just didn't have the patience. He stood behind his desk in front of the class, his arms crossed menacingly and his glaring blue eyes fixed upon them, his face screwed into a snarl. The group of children stared back at him, fear apparent on some of their faces while some held their own and glared back at him as much as they could.

The silence in the classroom was deafening as he stared at them and they stared back, not knowing what to. He made the first move, uncrossing his arms and reaching down to his desk and picking up a flask, which most would assume was filled with tea or water. But his was filled with Scotch. It was the only way he'd be able to teach without strangling the idiots that trapezed into his class and expected to pass.

He took a swig from the flask and slammed it down on his desk before he spoke, watching some of the kids jump from the loudness of the flask hitting the desk in the silence of the class. "Welcome to Medical Magic people." He said gruffly, casting a glare around the classroom as he moved from behind his desk begrudgingly. He would rather just sit at his desk and drink Scotch all day but noo. These people insisted on getting an education. His face kept it's signature scowl upon it as he stood now in front of his desk, leaning on it and sizing the class up again. Some pupils were breaking now as he got closer to them, shifting in their seats and sweating from nervousness. One boy in the second row was sweating bullets now, regarding him with a look of utmost terror. It made him want to smile. This was complimenting his ego so much right now. Maybe that's why he was still teaching.

"I assume that you all came to this class to actually learn something, not that all of you will, in fact learn something but I'm sure as sunshine that you'll try!" He said sacastically before he waved his wand at the chalk boards. Immediately a plethora of notes appeared on them and ther was shuffling in the classroom, quickly accompanied by whispering voice as students reached into their bags to get their quills. At the sound of voices she turned sharply to the students and whistled, high and loud. The movement stopped and so did the talking.
"No. Talking. Now hurry up and get outcha pens! GO!" He said and whistled again, feeling impatient. Students hastened to get their quills out and soon they were all copying the notes.
QUOTE
The earliest type of medicine in most cultures was the use of plants (Herbalism) and animal parts. This was usually in concert with 'magic' of various kinds in which: animism (the notion of inanimate objects having spirits); spiritualism (here meaning an appeal to gods or communion with ancestor spirits); shamanism (the vesting of an individual with mystic powers); and divination (the supposed obtaining of truth by magic means), played a major role.

The practice of medicine developed gradually, and separately, in Ancient Egypt, Ancient India, Ancient China, Ancient Greece, Ancient Persia and elsewhere. Medicine as it is practiced now developed largely in the late eighteenth century and early nineteenth century in England (William Harvey, seventeenth century), Germany (Rudolf Virchow) and France (Jean-Martin Charcot, Claude Bernard and others). The new, "scientific" medicine (where results are testable and repeatable) replaced early Western traditions of medicine, based on herbalism, the Greek "four humours" and other pre-modern theories.[citation needed] The focal points of development of clinical medicine shifted to the United Kingdom and the USA by the early 1900s (Canadian-born) Sir William Osler, Harvey Cushing). Possibly the major shift in medical thinking was the gradual rejection in the 1400s during the Black Death of what may be called the 'traditional authority' approach to science and medicine. This was the notion that because some prominent person in the past said something must be so, then that was the way it was, and anything one observed to the contrary was an anomaly (which was paralleled by a similar shift in European society in general - see Copernicus's rejection of Ptolemy's theories on astronomy). People like Vesalius led the way in improving upon or indeed rejecting the theories of great authorities from the past such as Galen, Hippocrates, and Avicenna/Ibn Sina, all of whose theories were in time almost totally discredited. Such new attitudes were also only made possible by the weakening of the Roman Catholic church's power in society, especially in the Republic of Venice.
"Now, in this class, you will be learning both medicine of the magical variety as well as the medicinal practices of muggles because, beleive it or not, they are useful." He said while they scribbled down the notes, pacing slowly in front of his desk. He reached for his flask again and took a swig of the Scotch, the liquid giving off a welcomed burning sensation as it traveled down his throat before he turned back to the class.
"Now, can anyone tell me what herbalism is since you all just wrote it down." He said, his glare searching over the students until he found the most nervous of them all. He pinned the boy with his eyes and growled, "Well?" And the boy seemed to freeze in fear for a second before he looked over his paper and then back up at Dickinson.
"Uhm... Use of plants in medicine...?" The boy squeaked before clearing his throat.

Perry gave the boy a dubious look before clapping his hands slowly.
"Ni-hice work there Nervous Guy." He said with a less-than-modest wink and moved on from him to the boy's relief.
"Yes, That is what Herbalism is in essence." He started, "You will be learning more about it in this class and hopefully you sacs of visicuous fluids will have retained something from you Herbology classes that you can use in here." He continued before turning to one of the other chalkboards and waving his wand again, more notes materialized on the smooth surface of the board and the students began writing again.

"Since I don't really like to give out too much homework," He began while walking back behind his desk, "Because, let's face it kiddies: It's a pain in the butt for both of us. This class period will basically just be about writing notes for now and reading something other, older people have written. Sounds like oodles of fun, eh?" He sat down on his chair and leaned back, putting both of his feet up on the desk and observing the class as they scribbled. He reached for the flask and took another wig of the delicious Scotch inside it before a small smirk graced his face. This class actually seemed to get him just a bit. No one was talking and they were all doing the work. He didn't want to be disturbed and they didn't want to be embarassed.

It's win-win. He thought, his smirk broadening a bit before he took another gulp of the Scotch. A few much classes like this and he's be drunk before lunch. God, he hoped the rest of his classes were like this.
Where you'd get your material from: Wikipedia, some of my own imagination and various other websites that give anything about medicinal herbs and stuff like that.
