Well, where shall I start?

Well, I guess that this is what you have all been waiting for, the Istar Fanclub. I don't really know how to start this, I have had a look at several Fanclubs, and their first posts but I want to create this one myself, :P and make it different!

FotM = Flavour of the Month. Eeek, you're going to have trouble finding twelve. I think I'll lurk here rather than join

Ah, LOL.
Thanks for pointing that out to me, I'm new you see, :D .

Well erm, what about the five Istar; Mithrandir, Aiwendil, Curivner ((If that's how you spell it)), Pallando and Aratar, and then we could have combinations?
What do you think?!

rine turelie - December 10, 2004 05:56 AM (GMT)

 I have a rather silly suggestion. For one month we could do "Gandalf the gray" and then another month do "Gandalf the white." Ehehee. I mean, they are the same people and all...but, well, Gray Gandalf and White Gandalf seem different to me in little ways. Eh, I dunno. Anyway...yep. That's all I can figure out.

And I'm going to agree with my sis: Gandalf should be December's FotM. :)

Good luck with the club Aiwendil!

Aiwendil - December 10, 2004 04:08 PM (GMT)
Okay, of course you can join.
I shall add you to the members list now, :P .

And I think that the Gandalf the Grey - Gandalf the White is quite a good idea, although of course we shall have to see what the other members say as well. And if you have any more suggestions then please share them ..

Gaia, that picture of Sir Ian McKellen with the figurines is so cute! And what's that on his T-Shirt? 'Women want me...' heh.

I love him! I want to hug him.

Anyway, Aiwendil, I always thought that  meant that you were confused. Is that what you were asking? If not, I feel very silly...

If you mean from this message of mine:

' I'd just like to say sorry .. you know you know what this means, '

Then it isn't suppost to be a confused face, the person who needs to know what it means does.

rine turelie - December 31, 2004 08:28 PM (GMT)
Hum dee. Been awhile since anyone's posted.

Anyway, I am feeling insanely geeky, so I wanted to ask about the names of the Five Wizards.

We have Gandalf, Saruman, and Radagast and when I was reading The Peoples of Middle Earth, Tolkien mentions the names "Morinehtar and Romenestamo." (For the second name, there are accent marks over the first "o" and the "a.")

He says this about the two wizards (it's really a note, I think, located in Chapter XII, included with the discussion of Glorfindel):

QUOTE
But the other two Istari were sent for a different purpose. Morinehtar and Romenstamo. Darkness-slayer and East-helper. Their task was to circumvent Sauron: to bring help to the few tribes of Men that had rebelled from Melkor-worship, to stir up rebellion ... and after his first fall to search out his hiding (in which they failed) and to cause [?dissension and disarray] among the Dark East.

Then Tolkien's son adds this note to his father's essay:

QUOTE
...my father wrote: 'A note made on their names and functions seems now lost, but except for the names their general history and effect on the history of the Third Age is clear.' Conceivably he was thinking of the sketched-out narravtive of the choosing of the Istari at a council of the Valar (Unfinished Tales, p. 383), in which the Two Wizards (or 'The Blue Wizards,' Ithryn Luin) were named Alatar and Pallando.

So, Aiwendil (well, and everyone else)--you seem to be the resident Istari geek, what do you make of this? I think it's fairly interesting, but I guess JRR Tolkien must have abandoned his ideas or something. Geez, the man was so confusing.

That's my question. (I really just wanted to stir up some sort of conversation in here. It's awfully quiet 'round these parts.)

Cally - January 24, 2005 08:10 PM (GMT)
Hi, just registered and came straight to this fan club. Glad to know I,m not the only one with a thing for older men (and wizards). Gandalf is a hero and Ian is cute. I,d like to join up please :) .

rine turelie - February 12, 2005 08:04 PM (GMT)
Hey Cally.

LOL, been awhile. Yeah, this club is uh...not that active as you can see. But welcome to the club. Since the original owner is gone, I guess he wouldn't mind me welcoming you. (I really like Aiwendil and he went and deleted himself.) Now, get in here and stay active...sort of.

Oh yeah. Black, welcome to you too.

I don't know why...but I'm in the mood for wizards today. Guess that's why I posting here. Just finished watching RotK EE and have a new appreciation for Gandalf. He kicks ass! And he always has that weird twinkle in his eyes.

Yeah...uh. Well, I guess this club will, er, grow some mold until the next time I clear it through and post something uninteresting.

~ S

smalldiver - February 12, 2005 09:40 PM (GMT)
*Creeps back in* Er... hi

Anyway, Gandalf does kick ass, doesn't he? He's so wise and grandfatherly and cool and... *Rambles on and on*

Cally - February 13, 2005 07:22 PM (GMT)
rine turelie, thanks for the welcome. I was wondering what other members thought of the scene in the ROTK EE when the witch king destroys our Gandalfs staff and causes him to fall from Shadowfax. It didn't happen that way in the book and I thought it made our favourite Istari look weak and afraid. As If!! Not a poular scene with many fans. Smalldiver, you are quite right, Gandalf kicks ass which further proves my point.

rine turelie - June 6, 2005 09:46 PM (GMT)
*waves tiny flag* Go Gandalf! Yay for Radagast!

Yeah...er,...uh.

I just didn't want to see the Wizard club at the bottom of the list, so I thought I'd bump it. I just finished re-reading The Hobbit, so I'm all "YEAH!" for Gandalf right now. And that hot elf king. Mmmm. But, elves don't belong in this club, so yeah. Go Gandalf.

tigerlily_grubb - June 11, 2005 04:24 PM (GMT)
Ooh!
I wants to join! I wants to join!!

I heart Gandalf. :D

rine turelie - June 12, 2005 04:40 AM (GMT)
You can join, Tigerlily.. Aiwendil (the creator of this club) went AWOL on us. A sad thing, I really liked that kid. So, since he isn't here to rule his club, it's basically just open field day. Well, it's not like none of the clubs are restrictive...Anyway! Welcome to the Istar fanclub. Not much going on around here...

We are lovers of the Gandalf. Pointy hat and all. Oh yeah, and sometimes we like those other wizard dudes.

edit to say: OMG, we've reached TWO pages!

Merevindur - August 13, 2005 11:53 AM (GMT)
Hi Rine, can i join in too...i could do some fan - fics based on this! :smooch: :makeout: :biglove: :king: :gandalf: :unicorn: :goldleaf:

rine turelie - August 14, 2005 03:43 AM (GMT)
Welcome to the club, Merevindur!

Wizard fanfiction! YAY! I would like to read some.

Merevindur - August 14, 2005 07:45 PM (GMT)
Yay, thanks rine.

There will be some fics coming up - just think, Gandalf/Aragorn, Gandalf/Merry, and wait for it - Gandalf/Saruman, now there's one not done a lot! :) ;)

Opal - October 14, 2005 11:41 PM (GMT)
*peeks in* Ahem, hello. May I join?

I like Gandalf. It's hard to find those in the Slash world that do but it's even harder to find Gandalf/Pippin fans. Though Gandalf slash Yahoo! likes that pairing enough. I even drew a sweet little pic of them kissing. I havent colored it yet, though.

I thought Ian looked really handsome as Gandalf the White in TTT and RotK. Very classy. I like how Gandalf can be gruff one minute and so gentle and caring the next. Moody, eh? Lol.

^_^

:gandalf: / :pippin:

smalldiver - October 15, 2005 11:05 AM (GMT)
Hi Opal! Sure you can join! I love Gandalf too :gandalf: : :smooch:

Opal - October 15, 2005 02:50 PM (GMT)
Thank You, smalldiver! :glomp:

Y'know just because Gandalf is old..... No, wait, older (thinks of treebeard) doesnt mean he doesnt deserve some action. And he will get plenty if the artist in me has anything to say about it. He will get many kisses. I just have to color and post G/P. Im on a Gandalf high now. Maybe G/L, G/A and G/F next??? Hmmmm....

Or *maybe* Gandalf......by HIMSELF. *Dudum!* Shocking.

*Thinking needs a break from slash?*

tigerlily_grubb - October 16, 2005 12:02 AM (GMT)
I think Ian is one of the most attractive men alive, and he makes Gandalf so very handsome...

rine turelie - October 16, 2005 02:34 AM (GMT)
Hi Opal! Welcome to this little fanclub!

I, too, think that Ian is very attractive as well. I don't know exactly how to describe it. It's not like "OMG HOT!" but, eh...just something.

But anyway...welcome again, Opal and have fun. :smooch:

I think so, too. I first saw him in "Gods and Monsters" (Excellent film). He oozes class and charm.
