Title: What Was Your Introduction To Slash?
Description: Just wondering...

rine turelie - December 1, 2004 06:54 PM (GMT)
I have no idea if there is a topic on the board about this, but I felt like asking. (Sorry if such a topic exists somewhere; I looked but didn't come across one! Eh, I got this idea after voting in that fandom poll, lol.)

What was your introduction to slash? How did it happen? Did you find the world of slash on your own or did you have friends introduce you to slash? What was your first fandom? etc, etc

For example, the way I came across slash was when I was a wee lass (like 15). I was looking for Gundam Wing pictures and somehow I came across a Heero/Duo fic. (And it was a NC-17 one too!) I read it, felt guilty for a few seconds, then searched for more! * happy sigh* From there, I started reading fics like mad, wrote fics of my own, etc, etc.

At first, I didn't like the idea of slash in LotR, but I read a really nice Aragorn/Legolas fic and I was hooked.

So, what about everyone else?

~ Stef

P.S. I think "Slashy Fun" was the right place to post this, right? :P

Ok, lets see....[takes trip down memory-lane]

I was around 20 when I first found out about fanfic (through Buffy the Vampire Slayer) then soon after I discovered smut (only het or (male-orientated) femslash)
I even started writing my own het fiction (Spike/Drusilla).
It took me another three years before I discovered slash (Angel/Doyle :biglove: )
Now, everytime I get into a fandom, I look for slash first :D

smalldiver - December 1, 2004 10:14 PM (GMT)
My very first fanfiction was a Slashy fic of sorts, actually.

I was on an Orlando Bloom fansite, and I saw this thing called "fanfiction".

'Ooh, interesting', I thought, and clicked on it. Low and behold, "The secret diary of Legolas" appeared.

So yes, I read the rest of the VSDs, then followed various links to other fanfiction websites.

At first I read slash in a hurried, i'm-not-supposed-to-be-doing-this kind of way, but gradually realised that it was a normal thing, and that there was this thing called a 'fandom', and Slash was a 'sub-fandom' of sorts.

So, to summarise, my first introduction to Slash was LOTR, and was also my introduction to fandom and fanfiction. I branched out from LOTR to other fandoms later on.

Elf Molester - December 2, 2004 11:33 AM (GMT)
Ah yes- those were the salad days. When I was an innocent 14 year old, sat in IT one day, bored off me nut. The rest as they say- is history.

(Consequently, it was an Aragorn/Legolas fic that I 'stumbled' across which was NC-17 rated. I had a right old time trying to keep it hidden from shez teacher).

simon80fi - December 2, 2004 12:38 PM (GMT)
How did I stumble upon slahs.. That's simple. Me and my friend we started reading fanfiction only about few months before we stumbled upon slash one day. We were reading Star Wars Episode 1 stories when we took this one story and OMG...
it's slash.. Obi-Wan / Gui-Gon pairing.. I loved it.. But I couldn't read anything for abot 2 weeks. I guess I was a bit confused I'd bnever even heard of anything gay until then.

But that's how it started and here I am. Totally obsessed Slash fan. :D

misswilde - December 2, 2004 01:48 PM (GMT)
Hmmm...where to start? :P

The first fanfiction I ever read was, er, 'Labyrinth' ( ) after a tip-off from a friend that stuff like this existed. So I googled 'fan fiction', found (yeah I went straight to the hardcore stuff, go me!) and had a good old read. Most of it was shite, but after a wander around I found the LotR fiction. I waded through a LOT of het before I got to my first slash fic, but then I read an Aragorn/Legolas fic and the rest is history! I think I got a link to LoM from one of the authors' archive list.... :D

Indy Baggins - December 2, 2004 01:59 PM (GMT)
I had been reading het in many other fandoms already, but never stumbeled upon slash.

I read the VSD without even doubting their possible correctness or even wondering wheter it was wierd to make them all think so gay... :D

Then I stumbeled upon a very innocent Sam/Frodo, with nothing more than holding hands, and yet again I was convinced of it's compatebility with the story.
And then I discovered and how many ways there are for a gardener to "weed his bosses garden" hehe
After that I just fell in love with it all :biglove:

Eremir - December 2, 2004 07:06 PM (GMT)
Well, I've never tried to conceal the fact that I'm a bit... oversexual. I was about twelve when my best friend and I started writing slash. Movies and magazines with a high slash-factor was kind of hard to find, so except for eating every book in the library with anything remotely gay in it, we started exchanging short stories that we wrote ourselves. NC17, of course.

We did it very secretively, as we thought it was something abnormal, in a way. It wasn't until I was 19 that I finally got a word to match my hobby. I was sitting in school, checking my emails, when my friend sent me a line. She knew I was a big LotR fan, so she had been looking for some fun images on the internet, and stumbled upon the Theban Band. After absorbing every single manip I could possibly find, I moved on to the fiction. I wasn't sure I was going to like it, but after a couple of stories I was hooked. Since that day, LotR slash was the only thing on my mind. I never realized my little fetish was such a widespread phenomenon. Life hasn't been the same since...

And of course after joining this board, my obsession has been even worse. I think I might need therapy....

tfutcher - December 2, 2004 09:13 PM (GMT)
I was reading Buffy the vampire fanfiction and I came across a story that started Buffy/Angel, Willow/Spike and had a scene with Buffy/Willow and Angel/Spike and I just went from there

tigerlily_grubb - December 3, 2004 12:47 AM (GMT)
First heard of slash in the Buffy fandom, read my first slash in the PotC fandom, though it was just Jack lusting after both Elizabeth and Will, nothing actually happened, but I thought it was fun. That was about a year and a half ago. I read my first actual anything-done slash a bit over a year ago, when I was 15... it was a Frodo/Sam, NC-17... and I was soon hooked.

To thins day, I have problems with LotR het, though I DO read LOST het. Not into the fanfiction thing in other fandoms.

Enja Vayne - December 4, 2004 11:27 AM (GMT)
I saw the Theban Band LOTR manips when I was 15, and that was my intoduction to slash.

Pretty good feackin' introduction, eh?

Zoe - December 4, 2004 08:39 PM (GMT)
Would you believe it? The Sunday Times!

Nénhelin - December 5, 2004 03:25 AM (GMT)
Being an Orgy obsessed fan when I was around 14. Then add on some Gravitation, and the pretty members of Dir En Grey, and it all went downhill from there.

porcelain - December 5, 2004 03:44 AM (GMT)
I blame the slashiness on the slashiness of those around me (I'm a gay man magnet...dear god, why me?) and the slashiness of the bands that I adore *cough*OrgyandRammstein*cough*.

The first actual slash fanfiction that I ever read was this terrible Draco/Harry peice of trash. I was terrifed but not put off from the stuff. I was actually convinced that there HAD to be better and lo' and behold, there was. My answer came in the source of LoM and other wonderful slash happy archeives. Oh the Joy!!!

Now, like the rest of you, I'm a slashaholic. I can't get enough....Long live the perviness and the slashiness. May Boromir always lose his pants and Aragorn always find them and refuse to return them!

As an end note, I would like to add that Merry and Pippin should :makeout: at all times. Frodo and Sam can come too.

Azzy - December 5, 2004 06:41 AM (GMT)
uhm i cant really remember, the first i ever read was highlander stuff.. but i was reintroduced with lotr, a site called bow and bloom was the first i seem to recal.. but i know i was grosed out completely, in the i wanna read more twisted kinda way... as in 'hes doing WHAT?'

Lady Amrun - December 5, 2004 06:44 AM (GMT)
I'm a gay man magnet...dear god, why me?

Ha! Join the club, me dear. My mother is now horrified that I shall never get married, but sit up in some house in the woods with four other men who love me dearly but can only give me children via a paper cup.....though when I think on that.....

Topic! The first fanfiction I ever wrote was for 'The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time'. I was twelve....From there I went to various animes, got bored, and stopped reading fanfiction for a while.

Then I stumbled upon LotR fiction and F/S (still my OTP). I. Loved. It. Now I'm addicted and have gotten my sister and my best friend hooked as well. And Tolkien loves me, I'm sure. ::waves to ghost of Tolkien that haunts me::

Glorfindel - December 21, 2004 04:59 AM (GMT)
Well i kept stumbling across Merry/pip fics and i used to be disgusted that someone would do that to lotr characters.

but then...
curiosity got the better of me

lol so i learnt to luv it!

 :D

pheradariel - December 21, 2004 10:23 AM (GMT)
A few years ago, my friend wrote a lot of Backstreet Boys RPS slash, and so she made introduced me to slash. Then all went dead for a moment because I was developing real taste (ghehe) and about seven months ago, I was looking for Legolas art and I found the gallery on LOM, Lassegalen's laire and someone linked me to THEBAN. That's where it all started. So I'm actually pretty new in all of this stuff :D :legolas: :reindeer: :legolas:

Gaia - December 21, 2004 01:04 PM (GMT)
My "first time" was two and a half years ago, when on another message board I'm on there came up a discussion on slash. I'd never heard of it before and was dumbstruck at first:
Someone posted a link to the LOM, and I picked a Legolas/Haldir fic, read it and fell in love. :biglove:
That's it.

Zatanna - December 21, 2004 10:47 PM (GMT)
Well... lets see...

I think it was the summer of last year (2003), and I was an obsessive Justice League fan, desperate to find some more fan fics about them. I'd written a few Flash/Hawkgirl stories, but not much else (unless you count those X-Men stories I wrote before I had internet access). One day, someone put up a bunch of links for fan fiction sites. One was to the jl_fic community at livejournal, with a warning that there was some 'adult content'. Convinced of my maturity, I entered the link and found an NC-17 fic with a pairing of Green Lantern/Flash. I made this face:  which soon turned to :D. In other words, I'd fallen in love.

I searched like mad to find other slash stories (but GL/Flash still has the firmest grip on my heart). I gained new parings, wrote some stories, and loved every second of it. A year later, I'm the obsessive little slash fan you 'see' here today.

Manveruwen - December 22, 2004 07:15 AM (GMT)
It was at the beginning of this year, when I was looking for information in the internet because I had to give a paper about Professor Tolkien in English. And beside telling about his biography I wanted to introduce some of the characters of LOTR to those of my classmates who hadn´t watched the movies/read the books. So I googled "Frodo and Sam" and stumbled upon the Theban Band. So I didn´t read slash first, no, it was slash art! First I was shocked (because our computer´s in the living room and my mum was watching tv), then I wanted mooooooore  ! So I started reading slash, my first fandom was LOTR, then came Harry Potter and so on.....*sighs*

Denise - December 22, 2004 03:14 PM (GMT)
Was looking for normal pics of Frodo and Sam and I landed on the Library of moria
When I was about a month active on the library of moria I found the library of moria forum! ^^

curiosity made me a perv :bunny:

elfgirl44 - April 20, 2005 11:02 AM (GMT)
It was about a year ago.
This is going 2 sound weird.
Started by typing things like legolas pants into Google. :D
Was VERY Bored, Ok
Came across slash, thought was weird at first
But slowly became addicted
And now cannot stop :help:

Glorfindel - April 20, 2005 11:16 AM (GMT)
well for me i used to read normal fics on but i kept coming across merry/pippin slash all over the internet
it used to creep me out but then one day i mustered the courage to read it and i did.
i got more curious and read a few more merry/pips then some legolas/aragorn

from there i turned into a slash fanatic :wine:

Tanja - April 20, 2005 04:20 PM (GMT)
I don't exactly recall how, but some day I got to and at first I read one fic without seeing it was Legolas/Aragorn. And as the story went on I was beginning to understand... I loved it! It didn't bother me that there was m/m sex or something. I just went on and am now totally addicted :D

Gondor's Pants - April 25, 2005 09:09 PM (GMT)
I was looking at (in my more innocent days :P ) when I found a Legolas/Aragorn kissing picture and was highly intrigued. There was a link to Rhysenn's (sp?) slash stories, and I read a Haldir/Legolas/Aragorn as my first fic ever. Talk about a delightful slap in the face! The rest is history, and thus I became a perv.

ElfLover - April 25, 2005 09:55 PM (GMT)
Oh I haven't posted here yet? strange couse it's pretty amusing story :D

the very FIRST introducion to slash was over a year ago I think and it was like that: I was reading Roswell fanfics on a polish site of this fandom and somone posted something to lough about, this was a 'love story' between Max and Michael but nothing serious it was something like 'the worst fick' competition. I read, laughed for an houer, and thought the person was insane. But it coused a discusion on the message bord and someone posted a link to a serious slash story.

So me being extremly courious person of course run there and read. It was a badly written fick, really I wrote better when I was 9 (not that were talking about polish here) And I certanly felt disgusted by it, I was lik EWWWWWWW how someone can write something this disgusting! ( now can't stop loughing at myself) Of course not the man/man relationship but the actual sex scene.

But despite that I thought about it disgusting my mind kept repeting and repeting one line from that story, and the vision of Micheal bend over the table played in my head over and over, and I was feeling strangly aroused.

But this was wrong right! (   ) so i tried to pushed this thoughts out of my head for some time. They were stubborn and kept coming back so after few weeks I came back to that site, but they were alredy removed due to flaiming, I was looking for something else but there realy wasn't anything in polish internet so I was cut off of this and finnaly ALMOST forgot, stopped interesting in it

And than in november 2004 it all started for real. i was then much into the foreign internet, english speaking bord, and english fanfics and at some point het NC-17 somehove wasn't enough and I remembered of Slash! Decided to try if it will be having the same efect on me like before but now it was by accident very good story (don't even remember now what it was, Roswell of course for sure something with my Michael  ) And suprisingly it did only partially, all the disgust disapeard and stayed only playing the best scenes over and over, I was like OMG this it greate! Just what I always needed!! Why I didn't start to read it erlier!

And that was my time of waking! then came other fandoms and I discovered LOTR is the best and the film is so damn slashy!

So this is my as always too long story! I keep teling everyone that I talk too much (hey I am a writer after all, i can't help it!)

Willowmariah - May 19, 2005 01:55 PM (GMT)
I was searching the web for photos of arwens costumes from the movie. Was wanting to make a replica of Arwens Reverie gown and stumbled accross one site. Read one story and I was hooked!

(don't even remember now what it was, Roswell of course for sure something with my Michael  )

I loved Michael. Never read Roswell slash though.

Manveruwen - May 22, 2005 07:16 PM (GMT)
ok, Elflover now you made me curious *goes reading some roswell stories*...

Merevindur - June 6, 2005 08:58 PM (GMT)
LOM was my first introduction to slash - i am happy to say!

I just innocently did a google search for Legolas and it spewed up this site and i never looked back...all those Elves and so little time, lol! :) :) ;)

Feancelenae - June 7, 2005 12:07 AM (GMT)
Oh gods, I remember mine...I was just sitting in my dorm room (this was years ago) and my roomie--whom I was very much in love with--told me: 'Here, Luce, read's a little odd, but it's entertaining nonetheless.'
Being an idiot, I decided to ask him, 'What, is it gay porn or something?'
He blushed so badly, it made me laugh so hard. I ended up getting addicted to it, so here I am now. I even remember what pairing it was--Elladan/Elrohir. I love slash, and I thank James for that, or I'd be nowhere close to where I am now.

I owe him something...

fawsley - June 9, 2005 03:38 PM (GMT)
The first slash I ever came across - by accident - was Mr Darcy and Wickham!!!!

I had absolutely no idea what was going on and I don't think they did either!

Would Mr Bingley have been better or worse? Discuss.

Dinen Glamor - June 9, 2005 06:42 PM (GMT)
Darcy/Wickham much better than Darcy/Bingley. However, I hate P&P so I'm probably not a good judge.

Hermine - June 23, 2005 05:31 PM (GMT)
*chihuu* was actually...the diaries.

Yes, the diaries XDD

Then I started to search, or my computer found them by itself, some fanfictions about Frodo and Sam or Merry and Pippin.
First amused I read them and....

well, now I've got a Sam Gamgee Costume, make fotos with my costume group and always put sth. 'slashy' in the perfomances we are doing.

It's quite funny to read how others got into this 'circle of perviness' *lol*

And unbelievable how young some started...(just like me....I was 14.... *lol* XD)

Merevindur - August 17, 2005 09:29 PM (GMT)
I actually remember that one day i went looking for pics of Legolas's silver costume from the end of ROTK, and when i was surfing the net for this i came across some fan fics of Legolas/Aragorn, and i was hooked like hell.

The thing was i had been staring at the intro of LOM and had only looked through the fan - fics A - Z listing reading them for a whole year as a guest before noticing that these guys had a forum that is where part of it all started, my intro into the world of slashiness! :D

songfire - August 17, 2005 10:41 PM (GMT)
 My first introduction to slash was at a ST Convention way back before the Net - a friend who was also a writer of fanfiction just asked me if I would be interested in reading *different* stories - stories about relationships between our fave characters - rofl. It was quite awkward (especially since she did not specify the kind of relationship...) but once I read the first magazine I was hooked. And now there are so many lovely men to slash ;)

Merevindur - August 18, 2005 06:57 PM (GMT)
Nice to have a fellow Trekker out there, songfire! :)

I remember going to Warp One in the UK and it was great to finally meet Marina Sirtis, but Alexander Siddig was a right pain, he just did not want to be there at all and buggered off home in the latter part of the afternoon, leaving Marina to do all the work on stage.

She did end up talking about tarot cards and other occult stuff too, which was fun.

I did the artwork for some of the star trek fanzines, songfire, so you may have come across it at some point, love my slash, i do! :)

Yes Marina is lovely - met her at a FedCon. Sid must have just had a really bad day - I've known him for 12 years, and he's usually a total doll (and a blast at conventions - especially with Andy! But then, most of the ST actors are lovely people (with the notable exception of WS). I used to attend just about every con there was (even travelling to Phoenix for a weekend -lol) but there's just now way to afford that any more...

Merevindur - August 19, 2005 08:45 PM (GMT)
Yeah, the dreaded WS, he's really scraping the barrel now doing cereal commercials on UK tv! :D

And i agree, there's no way i can afford to go to cons these days they are too much money for the entrance tickets and the stay in the hotel for the weekend.

They did not use to be that costly a few years ago - but then they got greedy for the cash. It is a real big shame, as i use to enjoy going to them.
