Good avatar material, that. ;)

LOL. I love them. Especially Frodo as a junkie and I love the M/P's but that could be because I am biased. And your M/P fanart! That piece is beautiful and so adorable. I love how you draw them. I hope you do more! :D
hjbender - February 14, 2008 05:21 AM (GMT)
Thanks, Opal! I plan on doing more of those two in the future. Maybe some fics first. I'm better at writing than I am at art (so I believe).
I've actually just finished a new piece, featuring Haldir, my favorite Elf believe it or not. It's pretty simple. I was trying my hand at realism and Photoshop effects.
Here is the glowy Marchwarden himself. :haldir: :goldleaf:

More M/P fics and pics by you? You are talented in both area's IMHO. CAN'T wait! :biglove:
Wow! You draw a lovely Haldir there. You got the features down pat it looks! :D
hjbender - February 21, 2008 12:57 AM (GMT)
Thanks, Opal! Believe it or not, I think my first post-hiatus fic might be a Boromir/Legolas fic...which I didn't plan on even happening. (I think my muses are schizophrenic.) I've got an M/P fic in the works also, but it seems like the man/elf is taking the lead. Weird!
And hey, I talked one of my friends into getting a tat of
Dawnlyn's fanart:

Haha, okay, so I'm a liar. This was a Photoshop experiment and nothing more. Although I remember thinking years ago how this pic would make an awesome tattoo...
hjbender - March 14, 2008 05:12 AM (GMT)
Well...here's what I've got on the old drawing board these days:

(Click for full image.)
Still much work to be done on it, mainly color. It's ficart for
Absence of Grace, though this scene won't occur until later. You can read the three parts I've got so far at my LOTR fic journal,
Shireworks.

Oh, I like this one - very good likeness of Boromir there.
The only thing I'm not so sure on is that Legolas is a fair bit shorter than Boromir, and he somehow looks weaker than him - less matched. But I've not read the fic so maybe there's a reason for that.
Great work nonetheless! You have a nice drawing style. I look forward to seeing the coloured version of it. :leaf:

Wow, nice! I really love your Boromir. Yum! Great line work! :D
Merevindur - March 18, 2008 02:30 PM (GMT)
hjbender, I've got to admit that Dawnlyn's art of Leggy looks great as a tattoo.
The Boromir/Leggy pic you've drawn is really nice too!
Vilwarin - March 18, 2008 04:56 PM (GMT)
Nice Boromir/Legolas drawing. Aylith, Boromir was taller than Legolas and almost as tall as Aragorn (who is 1.98m) *nods sagely* Why should Legolas not be slimmer than Boromir?
aylith - March 20, 2008 10:16 PM (GMT)
Vil, it's not that I think Legolas shouldn't be slimmer, it's more that he looks slightly weaker and shorter in comparison to Boromir. I know Boromir was taller than the elf, but the characters have been drawn to look like the film characters, therefore it was these differences that were immediately noticable to me.

Thanks for the feedback Aylith, Opal, Merevindur & Vilwarin! I'm glad you enjoyed the pic. :D
As far as height goes, yes, I made Legolas look shorter in order to illustrate the Elf's "loss of power" in the fic, I guess you'd say. (Legolas unwittingly saves Boromir's life by giving up his immortality by nothing other than complete accident...or is it?) But Legolas' height is only a small factor: his vaguely worried expression of surrender versus Boromir's assuredness, his reluctant pose versus Boromir's reaching out to him. All of this was done with a plan to expose the raw insecurities that Legolas faces with his mortal life. But Boromir, being mortal already, is untroubled, and he seeks to console Legolas, who is not so much weaker or inferior, but mournful and full of doubt. It's all something that wouldn't be interpreted well without reading the story. But good point, Aylith! I'm glad you brought it up. It made me analyze the pic and discover things about it that even I hadn't noticed before! :drunk:

Sure. And which makes perfect sense.
I think it's just peoples different interpretations of things. Me personally, I think of Legolas as being as hardened a warrior as any man or elf. I know stature doesn't always mar ones ability on the battlefield, I'm just picky when it comes to Legolas being portrayed as weak in any shape or form. Though I now understand this is not something you were trying to portray.

Which is why I made a point of saying that I hadn't read the fic.
It sounds like it has some good depth and an interesting plot. I'm not normally one for L/B, but I'll possibly give this one a go. :)
