Thoughts Upon an August Moon
The moon tonight is beautiful,
As puffy clouds slowly traverse on
Towards their eternal midnight dreams,
And suddenly I am a child once again,
Lying on the bank of a meadow stream.
With the excitement of my beloved by my side,
We didn’t have two dimes to call our own,
Yet my soul-mate in me did thus confide,
The assurance that we would never be alone.
Our whole lives in front of the point of now,
Our past, only a handful of years,
With promises of warm sunlight to wow,
And wash away yesterday’s sorrows and tears.
I do remember the days of my youth,
From this vantage standing so far off,
As the dye covers the all too silver truth,
Of years gone by and the calendar’s wroth.
And the doors of that great dividing wall,
Appear ever more in my nightly dreams,
With the sound of my brother’s beaconing call,
That mingles with the voice of the endless stream.
My beloved and I do clear now see,
The toll that the years have wrought,
And the ever longing desire to be free
From the age has all been for naught.
But still I tread unrelentingly onward
Over the scarred Somme of my soul,
My silent cry of despair has gone unheard,
Echoed in the ageless iron bell’s mournful toll.
Oh! My creator! Do not forget me!
As I dream of the sun long gone bye,
Bless him that steadfastly stood near me,
As my bearings are set for the sky.
For when the stars in the night that shine
Shall give their last glimmer and explode,
When the unity point is at last plumbed and divined,
And there is nothing more left to forebode,
The aeons will march relentlessly ever on,
In this plane that will be left far behind,
And the creator takes from me that cancer,
That mankind, ...has misnamed time.
