Title: Slash.....Have you told people?
Tirananniell - December 5, 2006 06:13 PM (GMT)
Well we started to talk off topic in the sexuality thread about this, so I thought we should make a poll.
Have you told your family/friends your a slash lover?
And if so how did they react??
Tirananniell - December 5, 2006 06:15 PM (GMT)
I tried explaining to my friend what slash was and she didnt like the sound of it. I have only told like 3 people and they were all either like  or :eew:
And I was like but its looooovely and they were like you freak, and I was like so what
Im a Slash pervert and Proud!!
They found it squick.
hehehe, I would never even try explaining to my mum slash, or how I love it or why. Those would be the questions: Whats slash? Why are you reading gay porn? Why do you like gay porn? Never go on the net again.....EVER!
lol or something along those lines
Vilwarin - December 5, 2006 06:48 PM (GMT)
I do not know how to answer that. My family knows that I bought season one and two of 'Queer as folk' and my mum said she did not understand why I like it. As far as I remember, I have never told her directly that I read slash, but we have spoken about the psycological aspect of women being attracted to slash.
So does this make it yes or no?

Never and never will....they don't understand me so I won't bother.

Lol. I told one because she caught me on the site and asked (I was at college )
and The other one I was telling her about the card exchange and blurted out it was on a forum and she asked what it was and I oculdnt think of a fib quick enough lolol
MysticLady03 - December 5, 2006 08:52 PM (GMT)
I once told some guy and he took every opportunity to make fun of it! Stupid git <_< .

Starr_Dust - December 5, 2006 09:25 PM (GMT)
NEVA!!! I told my brother and he makes fun of me all the time, but he's the only one I'm going to tell. I just think it'll weird people out (especially since I write Mpreg fanfics. I don't even want to go there!)
ellianna - December 6, 2006 02:02 AM (GMT)
I voted yes. The only person I've told is my husband. He doesn't see what the attraction is, but he doesn't make fun of me for it. He will read the couple of het stories I have tried to write, but won't read any of the slash stuff. He has told me he would happily beta read anything I write if I chose to do femslash. :P
Azzy - December 6, 2006 10:49 AM (GMT)
my fostermom buys me bishounen stuff HAHAHAHA, well she IS a woman, and has eyes in her head! - my brother laughs at me, but hes like the biggest homofobe to ever set foot on the planet, and my husband just think im overly strange. My kids leaned that what looks like a she, seldom is.. HAHA 'who is she, i mean he' HAHAHA
all people who knows me in RL knows i have a thing for bishies, but i didnt indulge them all in slash. even if most of them borrowed my copy of Ai No Kusabi -grins- they are SO friggin' busted! - im not a closet slasher at all, but its just not something i talk about all the time.
Denise - December 6, 2006 03:32 PM (GMT)
Yes ofcourse :D
My mum knows, my friends know (they are slashers also.. because of me :P) and even my younger brother knows. Who slashes my Frodo and Sam action figures all the time.
I haven't told my dad, though.. I think he knows.. :help:
Tirananniell - December 6, 2006 03:35 PM (GMT)
woa its good you have such understanding friends and famille
tigerlily_grubb - December 7, 2006 05:09 AM (GMT)
My sisters know and many of my friends. I told my boyfriend the day I met him, which oddly didn't scare him off, as he hates the idea of gay sex. I would NEVER tell my parents, though!
Tirananniell - December 7, 2006 10:10 AM (GMT)
Lol. I told my friend last night (another one) and the only bit she found strange was the fact that I go on HP && LotR fan fic sites. She laughed for ages about that because apparently thats what she did when she was twelve, i was just like well if thats the only bit that you find wierd than Im happy  I dont think she even realised that I said I think gay sex is pretty
Manveruwen - December 7, 2006 02:27 PM (GMT)
I voted "No, not yet", which goes for my family. I just told my best friend, who is gay himself, so does that count? :P
elfgirl44 - December 13, 2006 04:58 PM (GMT)
I havn't told anyone.
I just know my mum would be freaked out.
Most of my friends would be too but there is one who I've thought of telling.
Alariel Elrondiel - December 26, 2006 01:07 AM (GMT)
No, I would never tell any of my family. They just would never understand. Sometimes they think I'm strange enough just reading fan fiction!!
_scarlet - January 26, 2007 10:16 AM (GMT)
Well...of course most of my friends know because most my friends are also slash/yaoi perverts, or I've met them through my fictions.
'Course there's also some who don't know. But I don't easily make friends with people that aren't open-minded.
My family knows I'm crazed about hints of homosexual male couples, but it runs in the family. Hell, my step-mum was the one who got me into Queer as Folk. Though they don't exactly know how pervy I can be :P
TheLauderdale - February 1, 2007 09:54 PM (GMT)
I've told people what it is. I remember explaining the concept to my mom and dad on separate occasions and the various reasons why it appeals to people. I didn't say I was a slash fan because honestly I'm a fanfiction reader and slash is one of the things I read. My personal relationship with slash as a genre/concept is complicated and prompts much lengthy and contradictory rambling on my part, so I'll stop there.
vampmax - May 10, 2007 02:01 PM (GMT)
I have told most of my friends and family.
Only a few of the people I know don't know about my love of slash.
My sister for one, she is rather stuck up and in her words "A GOD fearing Women"
I told my mom and although she is not all about it she thinks it cool that I have what she calls an outlet for my sexualy frustration.
AmourDuTigre - May 10, 2007 04:57 PM (GMT)
I have told my spouse (William), and my niece and her gf knows...but we are all different than most people...as my niece tells me, she is a "Gay boy trapped in a lesbian's girl's body" , so no one here at chaos mannor thinks anything about it, though one time when I pulled the "William, I think I'm pregnanant" line on him (ala one particularly funny avitar on this forum), he did look at me and said "that I spend too much time on the LOM" as he started to laugh...and I was all serious about it, too! :P
I have not told anyone else in my surviving imediate family, for they too are "God fearing people". Strange, in my religion, no one cares.
My best het friend knows that I write homoerotic material, and he and his wife have betaed some of it for me. They are always asking for more to read. And the strange thing to is that they are both Christian folk. I asked him one time why they like my stories when they both despise pornography (as I do)...He told me that what I write about is human love between two people of the same gender, and that anyone wanting titilation would not have the patients to wait to get to the steamy parts, and that no one gets exploited.
I never thought of it like that, but it was a different answer than what I expected. He did tell me that his wife became very 'amorous' after reading one chapter in a work about a particular green eyed American boy and his Japanese lover... :P
All the best,
ADT
vampmax - May 10, 2007 10:54 PM (GMT)
Wow that is the best way I have ever heard it put. Not something I would expect form Christian folk but it is good to hear that not all Christians are as narrow minded as some can be.
MissMagenta - February 22, 2008 09:43 PM (GMT)
When I told them, they said they already knew ...
That's kinda frustrating, don't you think so?
And when I asked them how they knew (and here comes the gag) my best freind said:
Dunno. It's the kind of stuff I can imagine you to do in bed when you're alone. Reading slash.

hahah xD oh rofl xD
white-blueberry - December 4, 2009 05:10 PM (GMT)
My best friends know I read slash and can write it, too, and they understand me as some of them simply adore slash pairings and yaoi themselves!
...whereas my family (parents especially) will never hear about this. They would be really uncomfortable with it and I don't feel like making them feel like that. They're good parents and nice folks but just helplessly old-fashioned when it comes to thinking about relationships.
TreeLee - December 17, 2009 10:37 AM (GMT)
My boyfriend knows, and understands (he is very open minded), but would never want to read anything I have written :)
I have told a friend, but we were both really drunk so I dont think he remembers, which I am thankful for :D
LadyBrooke - July 7, 2010 06:12 AM (GMT)
One of my good friends knows. Of course she also reads slash and fanfiction so I wasn't worried about her reaction but I don't think I'll tell any of my other friends about it and especially not my family. Living in a small town has it downsides. Most of the people around here are somewhat close minded. I can't what to move away to college. It's not just the fanfic and slash thing either. Fantasy in general (not LotR so much as Harry Potter or anything to with vampires) is highly disapproved of. :wall: Oh well just one more year and then I'll hopefully win a scholarship out of here.
