DoD Identifies Marine Casualty

The Department of Defense announced today the death of three Marines who were supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Lance Cpl. Robert A. Lynch, 20, of Louisville, Ky.

New UPDATE:

New UPDATE:

As most of you know, USMC Lance Corporal Robert Lynch, a Louisville native, was recently killed in combat while serving our country in Iraq. LCpl Lynch will return home this Tuesday for burial.

While it is not within the official scope of SUPPORTING HEROES, we have been asked to assist with coordinating some aspects of the tribute. It will be our honor to do so.

We know that many of you would also be honored to participate in the tribute to this fallen hero. Therefore, we are asking for assistance with the following:

TUESDAY: We are asking for public safety personnel with emergency vehicles to participate in the escort from the Air National Guard Base at Louisville International Airport (enter off of Grade Lane) to the church (on Billtown Road just off I-265). We will want the vehicles lined up with lights flashing as the aircraft arrives and public safety personnel in a formation near the hearse. We will have a Garrison Flag draped between two fire aerials at the entrance. We will also ask for FD staging along the route – I-65 to I-265 to Billtown Road. PROBLEM: We do not yet know the time of arrival. At this point, the military is “99% certain” of a Tuesday arrival. Please let me know of your interest, and I will notify you of the ETA once it is established.

WEDNESDAY: Visitation will be from 1100 until 2000. Please let me know if you are interested in assisting in any capacity during visitation.

THURSDAY: Funeral service begins at 1100. A public safety escort to the cemetery will be established similar to the escort from the airport. We also hope that there will be public safety staging along the route to Zachary Taylor Cemetery (route to be determined). We will again drape a Garrison Flag between two fire aerials at an appropriate location – hopefully, the entrance to the cemetery.

FIRE PERSONNEL: Worthington Chief Yurt will be coordinating the fire service participation.

LMPD PERSONNEL: Traffic units will be detailed to both processions. However, Chief White’s Office has approved other officers to participate as well. We will submit a list of those who take part in each procession.

Family would like for PGR to lead the Procession.
They want us to escort LCpl. Robert A. Lynch from Louisville airport to funeral home:

Embry-Bosse Funeral Home

Alex Echols was selected to be one of the marine honor guards.
The Owens family Alex lives with will be riding with us on this mission.
They have 2 sons deployed in the army.

I am now the newest member of the Shepherdsville American Legion Riders, they are riding with us also.

Todays escort was THE most well run and organized escort I have ever been on.
Police and fire units gave us the whole right lane of I-65 and ALL of I-265, they totally blocked all on ramps and traffic behind us.
This is an example of how ALL escorts should occur.
I am grateful to the police and fire units involved.

After the escort a group of us stopped at a cracker barrel restaurant to eat where we had the opportunity to buy a meal for 5 marines in the honor guard.
We then shook their hands and thanked them for their service.

I was at lunch yesterday and they were showing his arrival on the news. It was absolutely beautiful!!! I had tears in my eyes. It was a job well done by all. Just wish it all could have been for a different reason.

I plan on being at the funeral home today from at least 4:30-6:30.

I received an email from an official source that the UG's have announced plans to attend, but I know the focus and the families recollections will only be of the citizens who came together to honor Robert.
