Taiwanese R&B pop idol Jay Chou, known for his interests in magic tricks, is extending invitation to heavenly king Andy Lau, to conjure magic together in new movie "Secret 2".
The Taiwan magic craze enters the land of China. Taiwan magic segment on CCTV's Lunar New Year celebratory show brought viewership to greater heights. Taiwanese magician Lu-Chen conjured a ring from his finger into an egg in a cup. The show raised his popularity and even created a surge of interest in magic among the general public of China.
Chou, obsessed with magic, promised to spur the interest among fellow singers. In spreading the "magic culture", he has taken every chance to perform tricks on every platform of media, including commercial advertisements and concerts.
Recently on a China programme, Chou expressed his wish in inviting Lau, also a magic-lover, to be in his new film "Secret 2" where they will showcase their magic skills. The "Player-Killer" match between the two heavenly kings has yet to be confirmed, but have already raised discussions between their fans. |

Jay Chou and Lee Hom Behind Cause Against Payola

Singers and management executives of Sony Music, JVR Music, Universal Music, Linfair Records, Monster Studio, Forward Music, etc, gathered at a press conference for a cause against payola in Taipei on Jan 8.
In attendance are singers Jay Chou, Rachel Liang, Alan Kuo, and girl band Ice Cream Musume. Together with the general managers of record companies, they appealed strongly for "respect for music, honesty to consumers, no to payola, and a 'clean environment' to encourage music creations".
Chou, founder of another "honesty campaign", found this cause a meaningful one and specially made his presence at the press conference even though he was ill. He revealed that records could easily achieve a sale figure of 20,000 to 30,000 in the past, but the figure has been dipping steeply in recent years; piracy and payola are two major problems the music industry is facing. Chou, a cars collector, also suggested humorously that people can buy cars instead of spending the money on getting songs up the charts.
Singer of Sony Music, Kuo, said, payola misleads listeners and deprive them of better music. He also appealed to the public to show more respect for music makers and provide a 'clean environment' for singers and composers to create better music.
New singer of Universal Music, Liang, said, she may not understand the problem now as she is very new to the industry, but felt honored to see her own songs up on the charts. Liang also hoped her fans will learn to respect music.
Lee-hom Wang was down with acute gastritis and was unable to be at the event. He sent out a release through his regional manager at the record company, expressing his support for the cause of the event.
Payola is an open secret in the Taiwan music industry. Chou exposed such an act of ex-managing director of EMI, Sam Chen, in 2007 and put the latter in a forced resignation plight. Just as we moved on to 2009, Wang also hinted openly that Gold Typhoon Entertainment Group was involved in payola for Show Luo's newly released album.
Forward Music also alleged Gold Typhoon Entertainment Group for their payola act. Taiwanese pop boy band Fahrenheit, group under Forward Music, sent flowers to Chou in expressing their gratitude for his actions against payola.
It is hoped that this cause will provide music a 'clean environment' for music composition and record companies can sincerely deal with the problems facing the music industry especially in the economy downturn |

HONG KONG Taiwanese multi-hyphenate and singing sensation Jay Chou is set to star in "Ci Ling" a period action film from the producers of his 2008 Asian hit "Kung Fu Dunk," it was confirmed by JVR, the singer's management company.
Film, about time traveling lovers in Genghis Khan's Mongolia, will reunite Chou with "Dunk" director Chu Yen-ping. The film will be produced by Taiwanese production company Chang Hong.
"Ci Ling" is slated to lense in March, with an eye to a Chinese New Year release in 2010.

Taiwanese Mando-pop king Jay Chou will be featured in an upcoming movie. But it will not be the sequel of "Kungfu Dunk", as many had guessed.
Wu Dun, who recently concluded a deal with Jay to star in his company's upcoming movie, said that Jay will be cast in Chu Yin-ping's action movie "Ci Ling".
Chu Yin-ping said that the movie plot revolved around a young couple who travel back in time to Genghis Khan's mausoleum in Mongolia, where they will search for a treasure hidden in the mausoleum. Chu also said that the leading actress will be a certain Korean actress who starred in the Korean drama "Love in Harvard".
The movie is estimated to cost about SG$10 million and will employed big names in the industry for the scriptwriting, martial arts chorography and filming.
It was rumored that Jay will collect a huffy SG$4 million to act in this movie. However, Jay's company JVR will only confirmed that they are collaborating with Chang Hong Films and refused to divulge any details on the acting remuneration.
The movie will commence filming in Mongolia in January next year, and is slated for release during the Chinese New Year period in 2010.
The announcement puts to rest rumors that Chou would next be appearing in "Kung Fu Dunk 2." Unlike other Asian singer-actors, who regularly juggle hefty music careers with slates of film appearances, Chou has been selective with his movie career, appearing in only a handful of lead roles in the past four years.
"We have already brought the combination of Kung Fu and Basketball to the top with "Kung Fu Dunk," and the worst thing for cinema is to be repetitive and stale, which is why we have decided to make a fresh, action packed adventure," said Wu Dan, chairman of shingle Chang Hong. Released in February this year, "Kung Fu Dunk" scored the tenth biggest opening weekend of all time at the Chinese box office, $6.9 million, and grossed a total of $15.9 million. |
