Hi Guys,
Sorry that September's letter is a little late. I have been really, really busy, more so than I have ever been for a long time. I am glad that what I wrote about last week seemed to evoke reactions from some people who have never replied on the forums before. Thanks for the emails as well. I apologise for not being able to reply to all of them. I will, eventually. It's just that this month (and the next subsequent months) are going to be really hectic. Will probably tell you more on another occasion.
I managed to do some spring cleaning. It was nice for me to going through all my things and trashing those that were just cluttering up the place... Books that I won't have the time to read again, clothing that didn't fit anymore, I shipped them all to the salvation army. Hopefully, it will be of use to someone else. They have served their purpose with me. I used to be very much a hoarder of my things, I kept my belongings around for a long time because of sentimental value or nostalgia or "future reference", but truth was, there was no time or use for them anymore. In recent years, I have grown very accustomed to giving things to people who have a use for my belongings and I hope that they will gain as much as I have from using them. It's a shame to have white elephants around. The best book will have no value unless people get to read it.
Talking about reading, I read a couple of really interesting things recently, issue 277 of Q magazine was the best issue of Q that I had read in a long time. I also finsished Neil Gaiman's "Stardust", it was really good. I've been an avid fan of Neil Gaiman's since I was a teenager, so I am partial to his writing. If you enjoy fantasy, fables and fairy tales. This is an easy read and a great fairy tale for adults.
Film wise, I thoroughly enjoyed District 9 and Inglourious Basterds, I think District 9 is off the theatres by now but you can still catch Basterds in the theatres, I saw it... twice! One day after another. Really great stuff.
I don't really have anything heavy to say this month, partly because as I am typing this I am physically tired out and I still have things to attend to later. I hope all of you are in good spirits and are keeping open minds. I have been reading a lot about 'Change' lately, not intentionally picking out books about changing your life and miracle promising books like that (which do more harm than good in my opinion, anyway), but the theme of change seems to come up a lot in my reading materials this month. Here's a one line that stuck in my head.
"What the Caterpillar calls a tragedy, the Master calls a butterfly"- Richard Bach. Till next month,
Jon.
