The very first thing that needs to be mentioned concerning SPITFIRE's music is that they ARN'T easy listening. For those of you who take comfort in how Lamb Of God's music has musicians behind it that know how to structure songs in a "verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus" kind of manner, you won't find close to any song structure. Maybe after 100's of listens (as I have done) you will begin to notice trends, but other than that, this isn't just background music.
Talent-wise, these 5 individuals are sure up there...if only they put it to better use! Some parts of these ultra technical "math metal" songs will defiantely make the listener pay attention, and in doing so should provide something of an uneasy thought pattern. Many of the riffs on this cd, including the very first heavy one, invoke a state of mind to the listener that promotes chaos and things chaotic in nature. Now, for those of you who just so happen to be fimiliar with Scarlet(RIP)'s music, SPITFIRE's current vocalist is Scarlet's ex-singer. After hearing just a few words have been thoroughly bellowed out of this man's vocal pipes you'll know the words he's reciting are not taken lightly at all. Words that come to mind wouldn't just sufice at "angery", but rather delve farther into the "fierce" and "ferocious".
Lyrics...you ask? Think of something along the lines of anarchy. The message on this cd was meant to remind one and all that everything we do as a whole is NOT ok. There are many things that can be done to provide a better future and ARN'T done...SO FUCK IT. Did you think this was gunna be another Killswitch Engage album with how if we all work together things will change for the better? Not a chance. This is saying fuck it, and indulge in all that is wrong and pathetic. Make it work for you instead. Loath in it. The vocalist actually offers himself as a subject to the cause, why immersing himself in examples of how people are used everyday and how time is wasted on nothing importany.
MEAT MARKET
"Come join us pigs on the butcher's block, where our divisions are literal. Admire our intellect and our absence of all things spiritual. The growth hormones serve as body armor. From the work ethic of the meat farmer, get strapped down, and enjoy the ride, because natural selection is on their side. Between arrival and departure from point A to point B, the bright side of ambiguity is all we see. I ran into my brother at the troth today. He tasted Good."
Needless to point out how disturbing these lyrics are compared to those of a typical "angry" band. You won't find and nu-metal "I hate my parents" here, nor will you find any "run to the hills" bullshit concerning things from the past that no longer matter. This is album is about HERE and NOW...so DEAL WITH IT or get the FUCK out.
