| QUOTE | The future of the British Grand Prix at Donington is again in doubt after legal proceedings were issued against the company leasing the track.
Track owners Wheatcroft & Son Limited are seeking £2.47m in rent arrears from Donington Ventures Leisure Ltd (DVLL) as well as forfeiture of the lease. |
| QUOTE | The F1 supremo, who is who close friends with Wheatcroft, also admitted that he knew nothing of the details of the impending legal case.
"I don't know what the situation is. I don't know what the details are. Maybe Tom is wrong and the other people are right. Maybe they don't owe that money.
"But I'm not worried. I don't worry about anything to be honest with you." |
Oh dear...Bernie's mate who owns Donny is owed money from the lease holders. All a bit worrying and awkward. By the same token it could be the media getting carried away...a lot of money but in the big picture not monsterous if this is an argument over what is owed as opposed to inability to pay. Maybe it will get settled as Bernie says...we can but hope. Quotes otherwise make it sound like the Bernie promoting it idea isn't on the cards. I'm increasingly worried this is the last BGP this year. In the meantime I am planning for Spa 2010 in case Or if Bernie could shift Monza into the summer hols that would be great!

Bernie is just playing us all isn't he
| QUOTE | Formula One's doors have not been completely closed to Silverstone, Bernie Ecclestone insists.
The F1 chief executive last year signed a contract to switch the British Grand Prix to Donington from 2010, vowing never to return to the Northamptonshire circuit owned by the British Racing Drivers' Club.
It is often suggested that, contrary to Ecclestone's argument that the Silverstone facilities are not up to date, the 78-year-old simply does not get along with those who run the BRDC.
But with reports now doubting Donington's chances of being ready for 2010, Ecclestone has denied that his mind is totally closed to the prospect of ever returning to Silverstone.
"If they were to do what they should have done, and what we've been asking them to do for five years, we'd have to have a look at it," he told London's Times newspaper. "We've got nothing against Silverstone."
However, he denied BRDC President Damon Hill's assertion that talks have already taken place.
"No, I'm not talking to them," Ecclestone told the magazine GPWeek.

BBC report:
| QUOTE | The council gave Gillett's plans the green light in January but the leaseholder still needs to meet the council's demands and prove his development plans are on track.
If the council does not think Gillett is on schedule then they could revoke the permission or give him until 31 May to prove otherwise.
Gillett, however, was confident the meeting was merely a formality and that it would not affect his hopes of staging the British GP at Donington next year.
"The meeting is about Section 106, which refers to agreements after planning permission has been granted," he explained.
"This section is about the way we behave, for example handling transportation for construction traffic and provision for police and emergency services.
"We have negotiated those terms and it is now down to signatures on the document."
Gillett was equally optimistic that his dispute with track owners Wheatcroft & Son Limited will also be resolved in the coming weeks.
It emerged last month that owner Tom Wheatcroft is seeking £2.47m in rent arrears from DVLL, who secured the 150-year lease in 2007, as well as forfeiture of the lease.
"We will be in a position to be able to sort that out very soon," said Gillett, who conceded the Donington development had been slowed by the global economic downturn. |
LinkYou know my gut kept telling me Silverstone would carry on but...but... This guy was a marine, he knows how to get things done. And it occured...if anyone was using Donny to axe the BGP wouldn't it be extra amusing if they pull this off despite how impossible it looks!
