due to the writer's strike some of the plots felt unnecessary, and some of the new characters I totally felt no connection with

I know what you mean.

The is one good thing, with the strike through. We get more Sylar, if the show comes back back that is.

It makes you wonder what the studio have planned for when they are surpost to show the second half of a season that is not even filmed yet?
I can see a lot of half seasons this year if the strike does not end soon.
