Yes, thumbs please. You know I think you do great work. You made a comment that the CBS digital stuff is done more quickly, but you have to remember that they have a team of more than 1 and a render farm, so that's bound to happen. Plus, some of their effects just aren't as nice as they could be, probably because they had to rush them out.

Thanks EG180! People keep saying that to me about CBS Digital. LOL!

Good points. I also find it interesting that some shows rely heavily upon the audience for direction. I'm thinking of Babylon 5 and Firefly where there was a web presence and a response to audience feedback. These guys cruise the large Trek websites and glean reactions there instead of having a place to go and find them.

Well it's good they went to the sites because they started doing more than just replacing effects with new effects that looked the same. They really started doing some original stuff after those first few episodes.

That's true! They even went back and fixed the mesh errors on the model.

Blast from the past. I've been reworking my Enterprise model and I like this one enough to be making 3 versions all at once:

1) High resolution with large 2048 x 2048 texture maps for close-up (or "hero") images.

2) Medium resolution with half the polygons of the "hero" version and texture maps no larger than 1024 x 1024. This one is for the vast bulk of rendering. It should look pretty good in anything except an extreme close-up.

3) Ultra-low resolution with about half the polygons of the medium version and texture maps no larger than 800 x 800. This one is for far shots and the opening credits where the ship goes flying by so fast that you can observe next to no detail.

With these three versions, I should be able to render any shot I can imagine and save some time in doing it.

Thanks for looking!

This image shows some of the detail I'm putting into the hero version:

This should be a wider shot of the hero version:

The medium version:

The ultra-low resolution version:

The ultra-low resolution version uses bump maps and textures only for details. The other two versions have all the parts in 3D.
