Well looks like Vista is gonna be replaced this year (Oct. 22nd to be exact). While I haven't had as many issues with the OS that some people have I welcome a new OS.

While I haven't tried the Beta for Windows 7 (yeah creative name I know laugh.gif) I know some people that have legal beta copies including one guy that HATED and I mean HATED Vista. From all indications Windows 7 will be a HUGE improvement from Vista. The people I know have had NO issues when it comes to the OS locking up, compatibility, etc. Also that ANNOYING so-called security pop-ups asking if you're sure you're sure when you change something are a thing of the past.

Also apparently the memory management is greatly improved (one of my main issues with Vista) and for laptop users they have improved the battery consumption which should extend your charge.

Having done some research on my part with the new features I am really liking what I'm seeing.

I was gonna wait BUT Future Shop has some special pricing til July 11 that I was able to pre-order the upgrade version (since I have a legal copy of Vista) for 64.99 after July 11 the price will be 124.99.

So if you guys are interested they do have a upgrade advisor available for DL @ www.microsoft.com/upgradeadvisor

The specs for the new OS are:
* 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
* 1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
* 16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
* DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver

Thoughts??

I've read and heard a lot of good things about Windows 7 as well. One of my old work buddies has the beta installed and has nothing but good things to say about it.

I have put off my new PC purchase until the PC's have it as the pre-installed OS. smile.gif

Yeah... and the rest of the fun and excitement comes when you check all your old (and new) games and see which ones still work...!! biggrin.gif

I have no interest in leaving XP until I get a new computer and I can't even guarantee when I do get a new computer one day it will be a PC, however I'm going to check out that link right now and see what it says.

I'm pretty sure installing any newer program on my old PC, let alone a new OS, would make it explode! tongue.gif

But in all seriousness as good as Windows 7 may be its probably NOT recommended for older systems. So I see your point.

According to MS. I could put windows 7 on my computer, however right now only the 28 bit version would work as I would need to install more RAM if I want the 64 bit version.

Jess you mean the 32 bit version wink.gif

I don't know what your specs are but unless you have a dual core CPU the 64 bit version will not be worth it.

Yeah but I'm undecided right now, I like XP enough to keep it until my computer finally "bytes" the big one.

I am also looking forward to upgrading to win 7, better performance at less consumption and i am a sucker for the new taskbar.
That being said reviewers are saying that win 7 is not significantly faster than vista sp2 in most tasks which troubles me, since windows vista set the bar kinda low.
But eh my laptop qualifies for the free win 7 upgrade (purchased it after June 26) so i will see if i like it enough to make the move for my desktop/gaming comp.
