Title: Luck Or Hardwork

flyingarrow - December 4, 2009 03:22 PM (GMT)
Again Johny Walker is at play so I am able to write what I am about to.

When do you guys started to to realize that luck was playing greater part in your life? I am not talking about those who were born with silver spoons up their asses but those who have gone out and made their impression in life.

This is important because I feel that I have been very lucky in life be it education, fun, career, women, wife of kid in life. Whatever I threw up in the air turned out right for me. In sporting terms, I have won all the tosses. Now, I do not know what part belong to my hard work but there would be some. I wouldn't get through education without hard work but that is debatable. It could also be a case of being at the right place at right time but do coincidences happen that often!

I am writing about luck because my son today got accepted to one of the best schools. While I am happy I can not decide if it is continuation of my good luck that I have enjoyed in life or he has some of his own.

Have you ever felt in life that may be you didn't put your right foot forward but luck/ fate turned it in your favor?

I believe in making your own luck, things don't happen out of the blue, somewhere something you did that comes back.

Any particular reason you think your son getting accepted to the school is luck?

No particular reason apart from the fact that he is among first fifty out of about 3000 who applied.

You believe in creating your own luck and I believe that luck directly proportionate to our effort but if it is any other way then I would (like any other parent) him to have some of it on his side. :)

I don't really believe in luck although the weather has not been fair throughout much of my life so far so i have learnt to accept bad luck and struggle against it. I am yet to achieve the goals of my life but nothing extra ordinary has happened to me so far which i can attribute to good luck.

For me if we are born in the families who have raised us providing very basic necessities of the lifeand are born with normal body and normal brain then we are the luckiest peaple on this planet!!!!!!!!

For me luck can change your life. In the first place if we are healthy and have the basic facilities at our disposal then what hardwork I or you have done to have them? It's all luck which changes our lives, this is my opninion.

cheers

Many times ppl make their own luck .... If someone wins a lottery, ppl say he is lucky but he did make his own luck by buying the lottery ticket

Someone walking down the street could find a bag filled with million dollars, now is that luck? There are so many who walked that street but why was he the one to find it? May be because he was the one to show the inclination to discover what it is!

At times good things happen when you least expect them but then you could have set events in motion some time back

On the other hand there are so many talented people who don't go up, while a normal guy would keep on going up for no particular reason. In case like that, there could be luck involved. But may be who knows he is a nice person so God is helping him out .... It's a complex world and there are so many things that are beyond our control (and imagination) so if something extra ordinary or something good when you least expect it happens, it would be luck

May be you need both of them to be successful. Hard work without luck may not produce results that you want. Luck without hard work may not be enough at times as it can run out

I think the technical term for luck is probability, Life itself is a sequence of decisions and every decision adds weight to a particular probability. For instance i read a news about an 80 year old lady winning 1miils on a slot machine, she was playing it regularly for almost 20 years. She had to win it at some point
So keep making good decisions (obvious ones) and at some point in your life you will be in good position and keep making bad decisions and at some point you will pay heavily for them

That's another way to put it nicely!

The term luck is coined to cover up the human shortcoming in establishing a fair and just world for everyone. Your dumbest son inheriting your wealth is not his luck, it is the failure of the system. Sometimes when i don't wear helmet and don't get caught in the traffic signals, i think i was lucky but later i realize that it was rather the inefficient system that lets me free but not my luck.

I made the previous post without reading the context of what is being posted.
