Title: Is Villarreal's Success Really That Unexpected?

Will Villarreal prove everyone wrong by winning the Champions League in their first European outing?

Not too sure about them winning the Champions League, a little too premature to make that descision. As for their run so far though, i don't think we should be too surprised. No doubt they have a brilliant squad. One thing they had to their advantage was being the under-dogs. Nobody knew anything about them as they were an unknown quantity when it came to Europe. Everybody took them for granted.

Agree with Vulcan there. The squad has quality players in Riquelme, Forlan, Sorin, Jose Mari et al. :D
And they are a typically Spanish side who make their pitch short , keep it tight, scrap and eek out important results. No offense meant, but they play to their strength. No surprise that Villareal have got this far but rather than being skeptical about them one should first question Inter for playing so toothlessly despite having a squad full of big-names.

What do you mean everyone? Villareal are a good team and we knew that from the start of the season. Its only EPL "pundits" and some fans who have taken them for granted.
We know that there are no weak teams in Europe. Benfica nearly beat Barca. Any team can win against anyone else on their day. Porto winning it 2 seasons back and Liverpool last year should be proof enough.

Actually, a European Semi-Final is not an alien territory for them. They have played in a UEFA Cup Semi Final (in their debut UEFA Cup season), where they were beaten by Valencia who then went on to win the competition.

Good stuff that. Hope the same thing happens this year but this time in the Champions League. Maiden Champs League, reach the semis and lose to the eventual winners...I like that.

[SIZE=14][COLOR=blue]The champions league always seems to have one underdog atleat each year the reason being obiously because it is a cup competition. Last year it was PSV ( though some might say liverpool to were underdogs they definately had quite a few classy players and ne team that has stevie g cannot b counted as complete underdogs).Having said that there was sure to be an underdog this year to while most including me thought it would be lyon it turned out to be Villareal . So villareal goin so far can be termed as a semi suprise of sort , having said that they do deserve to get so far because they have shown that they are a good organized team and have a world class player in the form of requelme who can change a game with one moment of magic.
As far as they winning the CL is concerned they will not . they definately are not good enough (though some might argue porto did an they to were a very defencive team) I think this will be barcas year they by far are the best club in the world at the movement ronaldinho messi and eto form a dream attacking line.

i think its a surprise to see Villareal in the semis..but its an admirable achivement for them. first time in champions league and reaching semi final is amazing..
but its surprising for me because they are lying on 10th position in their league and are in the semis of top flight..
but when you have a player like riquelme...you can play well

villarreal will go to the final i hope.

Well just going through the group stages with the likes of Benfica and Man Uts is already a big achievement for them..
So yea, their presence in the semis is somewhat unexpected
