Welcome
to the world of the lost

In the industrial city of Moorebank, Pennsylvania the chaos is rising. In the wake of a rash of assassinations and abductions the city is trying, and failing, to find peace.

William, the vampire Master of the City, has taken on advisors in an attempt to stabilize his Court, but the addition of a Temoin and a Second and Third is taking some adjustment as everyone settles in to their new roles.

The mad leopard Maalik still rules the pard, the pack has just been taken over by a stranger from out of town and no one knows yet what the new Ulfric, Sebastian's agenda might be. The rats have lost two kings in two months and many ask whether Luke is crazy to try and take on the responsibility for the unlucky Clan.

The city teeters on a knife's edge, balanced between order and chaos, safety and terror. Will the city be able to piece itself back together or will it descend into madness and war?

    ABOUT YOU; the roleplayer.

    name / alias -- Briar
    age & roleplaying experience -- 34, and a lot.
contact -- Please PM to ask.
how did you find us? -- It's a Jenn thing.
why you chose this character? -- I wanted to play a human without a tragic past, and she grew up into this.
other characters you own -- Di Crosby

    BACK TO BUSINESS; your character.

full name -- Rebecca Anne Woodward Byron
    age -- 20, apparent age 18
    nationality -- American
languages spoken -- English, a little French and Japanese
    species -- Human (Servant)

quirks & habits -- Plays up a girl-next-door persona, to the point of deliberately dressing 'young' and acting a bit silly to set herself apart from the dark pain-and-beauty attitude which prevails around the Horseman. Goes barefoot when possible. Tries to convince herself and others that she's quit smoking but has a tendency to steal cigarettes from smokers around her. Has set up a ferociously effective information network within the Horseman itself and can be counted on to turn up at the first sign of something unusual or dangerous going on.

personality -- Becca is almost psychotically cheerful and outgoing, treating everyone from humans to vampires to lycanthropes with the same friendly lack of deference. She moves fast, talks a lot, laughs easily, and listens surprisingly well. Unapologetically young, she makes the mistakes of youth and tries to learn from them as best she can.

She's smart; smarter than she looks, smarter than she acts, smarter than nearly anyone gives her credit for being. She is also a political animal, and though she's still learning the ins and outs of preternatural politics and relations she's coming along at an astonishing rate. Anyone who assumes her bubbly cute-li'l-coed manner is all there is to her may find themselves surprised--not always happily so.

Becca is utterly, fiercely, and joyfully devoted to William and through him to his court and the city. She cannot be bought, threatened, persuaded or manipulated into turning away from her master and will work herself literally to the point of collapse to further his interests.

Her greatest flaw, other than her raw lack of experience and judgment, is a tendency to be too open with her heart. Becca believes at the core that she can find something to love in everyone and will make very poor decisions from time to time while trying to live up to that.

hair color & style Blonde and curly, worn long
    eye color Brown
    height & weight 5'4", 110 pounds
    build Average, not spectacularly curvy

    hometown -- Clearwater, Kansas
family -- Parents (Vincent and Dontella, divorced) and one older brother (Bryce), all alive
profession -- Human Servant and Manager of the Fourth Horseman.

overall history -- Until she came to Moorebank there were no great triumphs or tragedies in Becca's short life, only the small wounds inflicted by growing up middle-class in the suburbs. Her parents were loving and made it a point never to let their divorce destroy their relationship with their children, she was always safe and well cared for and secure in the knowledge that she was loved.

But all her life she wanted out. Out of the tasteful comfortable blandness of her life, out of the hothouse forcing ground of high school, out of the padded unreality of the middle class. She was determined to live a real life, one where she made her own decisions based on what she wanted and not what she was afraid might happen.

And so she did what any sensible middle-class girl would do. Graduated high school, accepted scholarships to a very good college halfway across the country, and fled the 'burbs determined never to be dragged back.

Only here's the thing--Moorebank isn't just any city. Moorebank is a city of monsters. A city of night and blood and silver and poison. A city with a whole other world in it. And it was just blind dumb luck that when Becca finally brushed up against the edge of that other world, the first person who found her was a blood doll named William Byron.

William and Rebecca came at one another like the crushing hands of Fate. They went from strangers to lovers to loves so fast that not even they can really remember those first few days too clearly any more. All Becca can be sure of is that one moment she was sitting on a bench outside a cafe, smoking a cigarette and waiting for her life to start and then a grey-eyed man stepped into the light of a streetlamp and everything changed forever.

At first William was determined to keep Becca out of his world, away from the Fourth Horseman and his beloved Mistress, Seregwen Rae, Master of Moorebank. But some things are inevitable, and from the first night Becca stepped into the Horseman she was never really going to leave again.

She went for a party, a celebration to honor a visiting ancient. By the time the party ended and the dawn came she'd been twice marked as a human servant by the ancient vampire Isaac Grey. Marked unwilling and unasked, she would be quick to point out.

To save her, to save them both he might say but Becca will never wholly believe, William asked Seregwen to Embrace him as a vampire so that he could lay his own marks on Rebecca, claim her for his own human servant. Seregwen agreed, William died and was reborn for love, and he laid the marks on Rebecca within an hour of his Embrace.

But no event exists in a vacuum. The circumstances surrounding the night of that party, Rebecca's binding and unbinding to Isaac Grey, William's Embrace all became part of a much larger sequence of events which led eventually to a war.

The Grey Night. The war between Seregwen's City and the Grey brothers' industry. Far too many people died that night, and the death which impacted Rebecca the most was Seregwen's.

Shockingly, Seregwen arranged for Mastership of Moorebank to pass to her newborn get William. Less than a half year old as a vampire and William was running one of the most active vampire courts in the country. Suddenly Rebecca wasn't just one half of a strange, intense love affair. She was a symbol of power, a tool to be used, a resource to be exploited and a pawn to be played.

It was a lot for an eighteen year old kid from Kansas. And in the early months both of them faltered often, occasionally coming to the brink of disaster not only between the two of them but with the people and the city around them. But somehow they always pulled it back together, always scraped victory out of near-defeat.

Over the next few years, both William and Rebecca came into their power. It wasn't always easy, on them or on the city, but they made it through. Even the attack by the shadowy agency that abducted William and held him in torment for months couldn't topple the city, and now that William has returned he holds Moorebank once more, with Becca always at his side.

These days Rebecca runs the Fourth Horseman. Only the human side of it, she's quick to claim, although that's not strictly true. She acts as club manager, sometime hostess, occasional unofficial liaison with the lycanthropes and is generally the first line of contact for any non-vampire who wishes access to the Master.

role-playing sample -- It was a familiar sound in the Fourth Horseman, one which the residents and regular afternoon and early evening patrons knew well. The light double-tap footfalls of bare feet coming down the carpeted staircase which lay mostly concealed behind a swath of heavy red velvet curtain. >>Ta-tup, ta-tup, ta-tup<< getting louder and picking up speed until the crimson drape was shoved impatiently aside and Becca emerged with her usual graceless energy.

Dressed in faded denim shorts and a pale yellow tank top with a picture of Big Bird on the front, her blonde curls caught up in a ponytail and all her lipstick rubbed off as usual, Becca looked like the very last person in the world who belonged in a vampire club. Like a daisy stuck into a vase of midnight orchids, almost painfully incongruous despite its charm.

Momentum carried her straight over to the bar, she all but thumped against the polished wooden edge and grinned broadly at the musclebound man who was working as tender that afternoon. "Heya Simon, what's the sitch?"

The werewolf jerked his head toward a lone figure sitting in one of the back booths. "Wants to see the Master. Says she has something for him." His hands never stopped moving as he spoke, nor did he ever make eye contact.

Becca nodded and snagged a bottle of water out of the cooler behind the bar, then sauntered over to the indicated table. The woman who sat nursing a Manhattan was dressed to kill in a tailored black suit with a red silk shell beneath, a four hundred dollar haircut and six hundred dollar shoes. Her face was almost plain, too square and blunt, but it would take another woman to spot it under the layers of expensive and tasteful cosmetics she wore. Everything about this woman spoke of money, power, and an absolute ruthless determination to have everything her way.

"Howdy." Becca dropped into the seat opposite the woman, beaming at her the whole time. "Welcome to the Horseman, I'm Rebecca. What can I do for you today?"
