to the world of the lost
In the industrial city of Moorebank, Pennsylvania the chaos is rising. In the wake of a rash of assassinations and abductions the city is trying, and failing, to find peace.
William, the vampire Master of the City, has taken on advisors in an attempt to stabilize his Court, but the addition of a Temoin and a Second and Third is taking some adjustment as everyone settles in to their new roles.
The mad leopard Maalik still rules the pard, the pack has just been taken over by a stranger from out of town and no one knows yet what the new Ulfric, Sebastian's agenda might be. The rats have lost two kings in two months and many ask whether Luke is crazy to try and take on the responsibility for the unlucky Clan.
The city teeters on a knife's edge, balanced between order and chaos, safety and terror. Will the city be able to piece itself back together or will it descend into madness and war?

Seregwen had been planing this party for what seemed like a year. With so many guests she simply could not let it run its course as she often allowed her ventures to turn. Deliberate plans and security was put into place to ensure that the mass did not ruin her home. But she had faith in the citizens of Moorebank not to be to childish in the ultimate escape home. She had dressed up for the event of course, in a custom made dress that she doubted anyone else would wear. The elf like features that went with the dress to make it a costume had been expertly applied. Her usual long dark hair was tucked up inder a cap and instead a silver blonde wig had been applied. She had been living with her natural hair colour for a life time or three. Seeing the odd colour on her reflection had made the vampire smile. The dress was whole and intricate in its design, and she loved it. She had bought it a long time ago, but never worn it. But Halloween seemed perfect. Fantastical enough that no one would raise an eyebrow at her elaborate bodice. Seregwen remained in her room, applying the finishing touches, waiting for the guests to arrive. Already the Horseman was filling up with people. She could feel their heart beats pulsing through the walls and she closed her eyes to bathe in it. Tonight would be an amazing night.

Aiden was dressed in what be the most rediculas outfit he had ever put on. But it was the inform Seregwen had decided and so he wore it with pride. The shorts were short, something he would never wear again. The cuffs were nice though and the bow tie had certain charms. On the tie was the mark of Seregwen marking him as free play. Basically anything and everything was up for this tiger. He waited in his room, where Brianna had disappeared in his bathroom to change into her outfit. "Don't worry you don't show as much flesh as I do." he promised the girl, calling through the closed door as he applied some light make up of eyeliner. Thinking he looks alright he finally pulled on the thick goth boots that did not match the outfit but did match the personal style of Seregwen. She preferred all Victorian for herself but had always taken a liking to dressing up others in modern goth wear. He pulled up the zippers on the inside leg, and the look was complete

It was a calculated maneuver, more astute than anyone who listened to the fledgling's loud and frequent declarations that she didn't play politics and had no interest in learning how might suspect. And, in point of fact, Di had asked Becca about it and the servant had suggested the idea. But still, at least Diana thought to ask, and that was more than most might expect. Show up only a few minutes after the party was meant to begin, and she'd be there before Seregwen made her entrance, which meant that she didn't have to go immediately to greet their hostess, and since Seregwen wouldn't need to go out of her way to find and welcome a fledgling, even William's fledgling, the two of them could continue the nice 'pretend one another doesn't exist' vibe that they'd been working for the past six months. The avoidance suited Di just fine and she suspected that if Seregwen cared at all, she was just as happy with it. Dressed in her clockwork mishmash of an outfit, with the custom-retrofitted wooden camera that secretly housed a high-end digital hanging around her neck, Di felt pretty good about her costume. It was comfortable, she thought it was sexy, and she'd always sort of had a thing for bowler hats. Her date for the night was Mai, a rat who didn't work the Horseman but did like both donation and Di's rough and tumble notions of play. There'd never been anything like romance between them, but they had fun together sometimes and Di personally thought that the young Chinese rat looked beyond hot in her steampunk gown and carrying her sharpened brass fan. Rats, man. Always got to be hedging their bets. The two sauntered into the room with their arms around one another. Mai picked up a glass of champagne, Di reminded herself that she could play with the bodice of that green satin gown later, and they started drifting through the ballroom, looking for somebody they felt like talking to.

Maalik felt strange and did not understand why he needed to arrive at his former mistress's home in such an elaborate outfit. For the tenth million time he was carefully explained the rules again. Seregwen had invited the city with one rule. No costume, no candy. Which meant you didn't get into the horseman without a costume. Maalik did not like it but he manipulated the outfit so it expressed his personal style. The pants were tight, molding his athletic legs perfectly, and the shirt, while loose because that was the way 'real' pirates did it, the shirt had a low v, showing off his bare chest. Not the same as the silk he preferred but it was the best he could do. He arrived by his own car, although it was driven by one of the leopards who was going to remain behind at the pard house to sit the cats that didn't want to go out. Maalik was driven up to the door, where the lights started flashing immediately. He hated the paparazzi. Even with the long dreaded wig of real human hair, it was impossible not to recognize the nimir-raj for who he was. The leopard green eyes could not be hidden and his handsome Asian features could not be hidden by any wig or outfit. The cameras clicked as Maalik was lead from the car by Rah, her twin sister following up behind. The twins looked amazing in their sexy police officer outfits and Maalik knew this was all for show. They had no intention of staying with their Rah and personally Maalik was more then a little voyeuristic. He would enjoy watching his kittens get purred all over. He closed the car door and the driver took it back into the night. With a girl on each arms, Maalik played his part for the cameras, teasing and posing with his girls in a variety of shots before finally laughing off the comments of the reporters and disappearing inside.

Genvieve didn't really want to be here, but she couldn't just leave. Although the dark haired nanny had promised herself that she would leave long before the decided curfew of sunrise. She didn't need to care for Darilynn tomorrow but she did want to plan some things for the girl. Never to young to start learning. Since she was already at the club, Genvieve did not bother with going home and coming back. She could get dressed here and avoid the paparazzi who were lined up outside. Dancing a little to the music she could hear through the walls, Genvieve checked herself out in the mirror. She doubted anyone would find her sexy. The red outfit left little to the imagination... but it was comfortable and a costume, so Genvieve liked it. She had never gotten into the spirit of 'looking as slutty as possible' concept behind many Halloween costumes out there. She like the character and taking the night to live in someone else' shoes. And how poetic, the story of a young girl who ventured into the woods and misfortune. Much like Genvieve herself sometimes felt about working in the horseman. Genvieve entered the main room where the colorful outfits were starting to bulk up. She didn't recognize anyone here. And maybe that was a good thing. She could escape sooner if she didn't get sucked into conversation

Matilda flashed her V.I.P pass at the press as she walked down the red carpet that lead to the entrance of the Butterfly effect. She head a few names being called her way but she didn't care. They were jealous and they knew it. Somehow, the local paper was the only paper that had the rights to print inside footage of the party. Every other press member had to stand in the crowd and shout out things as people came and went, getting the glimpse of the fairytale like entrance piece whenever the doors opened. But Mattie got to go inside and rub shoulders with the actual guests. Almost as good as the inside scoop of the Oscars. Her outfit was simple enough, a black and purple dress with some Halloween accessories. The cat on her shoulder, seeming almost life like heald a camera. She would be recording everything she saw, the footage being used later for quotes. In her trick or treat basket was a camera for still shots, the equipment buried amongst candy. She had just started scanning the room when she noticed a girl with a camera hanging around her neck. Matilda gave an excited squeal and rushed to Diana, grabbing the piece with one hand the other making sure her witches jack-o-lantern hat stayed on her head. "Oh god, who made this?" she said, finally looking up to see the girls face, a smile on her lips before she examined the camera casing further. "Damn its shiny." she applauded the artwork

JAMIE: Jamie had found the vintage uniform online and been drawn to it for no reason he understood. His great-grandfather had been a Highland Ranger, and Grandad had claimed that his ancestor had known John McCrae. Jamie himself had always had a fascination with the first World War, that massive and bloody struggle that tore a world apart and changed everything it touched. The War to End All Wars, and now all but forgotten under the shadow of a tinpot dictator and his racist friends. He wore the kilt and jacket with aplomb, knowing that he'd be fielding 'regimental' jokes all night and not much caring. Jamie had never been too wrapped up in other people's opinions but these days he was finding himself almost aggressively indifferent to all but a small handful of people. The paparazzi didn't care about him, of course. A few snapped pictures, just in case, but he got up to the front door of the club without being blinded by the flashes and strolled into the ballroom with the same easy, loose-shouldered stride as always. A quick glance around the room and he headed over for Genvieve. They could always talk about Dari and tell one another how much they hated big parties. DIANA: Di laughed and handed over the camera for Mattie to examine. "I found a guy online who does those retro keyboards and stuff, all brass and iron? The costume's actually based around the camera, not the other way around--I commissioned this months ago just because I thought it was awesome." She smiled at Mattie and noted, "Great cat, by the way. He works, right?" She waved at the lens.

ALLISON: Allison had arrived with a bunch of other no bodies from the horseman. She entered without much fuss. A few poses for the cameras because they were from the horseman and they worked for the master of the city, and they they were free to go. Allison broke away from the group and she thought that were glad to see her go. The fear she projected was there as always and in the car... well lets just say they were glad for the free space now. She had dressed in a pirate costume she had found while cleaning. It was cute and playful without being to slutty. Or so the vampire thought. The heels were probably going to kill her by the end of the night but the entire outfit was just to pretty for her to ignore it. The punk ribbons on her hat, her corset tie ups and what decorated her feet all matched and she was feeling pretty good about herself. Until she saw Diana practically drooling all over some girl. In their adoringly matching outfits they looked perfect next to each other. Allison watched for a moment, thinking she could handle it. But then a new girl joined them and she couldn't handle seeing Diana looking like she was having so much fun. So Allison disappeared into the crowd, suddenly not feeling so hot in her outfit. MATILDA: "Yeap. completely functional." she said with a beaming smile again. "I'll stalk you in the Horseman sometime and you can give me the contact details. That handiwork is amazing." She fished into her hollowed out plastic pumpkin and got her camera out. "Pose?" she asked. "And whos the girl?" she asked, knowing the cat would catch all the information. GENVIEVE: She smiled as she watched Jamie approach. "You know never been a fan of men in skirts, but when you got legs like that..." she teased him once he was close enough. "World war one right?" she guessed, frowning a little as she looked at the details a little more closely

This was going to be most difficult night of his life. Forget the wedding, the embrace, the signing with Issac... none of this compared to this single night. He was sitting in the limo, tapping his thumbs together as he looked at the woman in the car with him. Becca on one side, Viviane on the other, both looking stunning in different ways that would have made his heart stop if it was beating. Viviane in the glittered red dress that seemed to make her seem taller. The side split was incredible and showed you almost everything without showing it all. When William had seen her, a kiss on her lips was plain because he didn't want to disturb the make up. But his hands had roamed all over that revealing number, feeling the contrast between flesh and dress. The diamonds were real. William had leant her some from the safe, almost replicas to the ones she had been wearing when he found her. William didn't think Becca could out do Viviane's obvious sexiness, but she did. Maybe not outdo, but she had certainly brought her game face. While Viviane was sex on legs, Becca had a different kind of appeal. The whole outfit brought together made William smile. She was perfect, as she often was in his eyes. He couldn't imagine her wearing anything else, and although he had imagined it, in the flesh it was better then anything he could conjure in his mind. He greeted his wife with a kiss, quick and simple because he was suddenly reminded that things were right between them. And now the limo drive. It was worse then anything William could ever imagine. And he had a great mind for the freaky and the strange. He had never been so glad to see the Butterfly before. His driver came around and Viviane was the first out of the door. William waited as the cameras flashed and Viviane was in the spot light for a moment. William joined her, taking some shots for the press before he offered his hand back into the limo for Rebecca. She slid from the limo and beside him, showing to all the world the perfect pair they were meant to be. William posed in the spot light with his wife, their outfits matching exactly the way Rebecca had wanted them too, William in his gangsta motif, Becca in her dress. William reached for Viviane, taking her gloved hand and together the three waited while the paparazzi went nuts over them. And finally they started the walk towards the door. William stopped, laughing and joking with photographers and reporters, putting on his Lovable Master face and seeming at home with the whole process, even though he hated it. And finally the trio were inside the doors and William ran a hand through his hair. "Well that could have been worse." he said with a slight hint of laughter to the pair.

Brianna looked at herself in the mirror at the Butterfly, and decided it could be worse. At least she had a costume and wasn't going in her skin. But she was there to work the crowd and not just fool around, so she was ready to head out. As long as she didn't fall off her stupid boots with their 3" platforms she would be fine. Luckily she had the grace of her animal so she wouldn't do anything like that. She exited the bathroom and saw what Aiden was wearing, and suddenly didn't feel so bad about her costume.
"That is what Seregwen is making you wear?" she snickered. "I suppose it could have been worse. I saw some that were just a thong. Mine covers all the important bits at least for now. Who knows what the night will bring. So any last minute instructions on how to handle the crowd?"

This was going to be the strangest night. She had done her hair so she didn't need a wig to do the whole Jessica Rabbit bit, and the dress that she had ordered had fit her like a glove. She felt like she was dressed in a lie, but that was the whole point of costumes, wasn't it? She was one of the least sexy people that she knew. Yet here she was in a threesome with the sexiest vampire in the city and she was dressed to portray the sexiest woman she could think of. Very ironic in a way. But she would try to play her part well so that no one saw the little scared girl under that sexy exterior. She just hoped for everyone's sake that she could pull it off.
As the car door opened and she stepped out, the flashes from all the photographers blinded her momentarily. She smiled and waved, because that was what was expected. Those people couldn't know who she was but she got out of a limo so she must be someone. And when William joined her they went even wilder. She would be the sexy toy and just stand around looking pretty. She was glad that she had chosen not to match William's costume like Becca had, that way it emphasized that they were the couple and she was just the toy. It bothered her a little bit, but that was her role and she would play it as it had been dealt to her, at least for now.
They entered the club and she was surprised at the decorations and the luxury of the place. She had never been here before and had been curious. They said you could do anything you wanted here, and anything you wanted would be provided. Like that would happen for her. She had what she wanted but she had to share with Becca. And Seregwen would never be able to provide another William for her very own.

EDWARD Leaving Rose home, Edward wandered into the club dressed like a Southern Gentleman in black slacks, white top, and the rest of the costume was grey. He adjusted his glasses and smiled as he saw a few familiar faces. GAVIN Deciding that he was greatful for having this weekend off, he walked into the club, dressed like a Masked Bandit. He was quite proud of the custom costume, his face hidden behind the cloth mask. IANTO He had no idea why he came but he needed to get out of his apartment and he wanted to try and have fun for once. He felt utterly self-concious in the costume a friend of his found for him. He felt rediculous dressed as Handsome Devil. The horns felt odd on his head, but he promised to wear them. At least he was somewhat in a suit.

AURORA: She could have gone the easy way and just worn her actual uniform. But she worn the blue colours everyday and she wanted to dress up a little. Mostly curiosity had brought her to the Butterfly, an excuse that she was sure most of the people here would be using as for why they came in their best outfits to impress the vampire who owned the most exclusive club in the world. Aurora had ordered the costume late and it had only just arrived a few hours before night fall. So she wasn't the first to arrive, but then again who wants to be the first person to a party? She was going alone, with the lie of keeping her options open. In truth she really didn't have a friend to ask to join her. Officer Hunter was staying home with his kids to do trick or treating. She walked through the paparazzi and their snapping cameras and through the main doors. Some people were enjoying the attention. Aurora wasn't. Although her outfit made a bit of a statement when you considered her normal attire. The Indian Princess was what it was called, but she could have easily had been "the Indian Slut" with the length of the skirt. She almost teamed it with her brown leather pants but at the last minute had decided against it. The boots were high enough to give her the false image of modesty. Her hair divided and in plats down her shoulders had feathers intertwined in the leather ties she used to secure the plats. Over all she thought she was looking kinda cute. AIDEN: "Yeap. She has a wacky sense of humor." he told her with a smile, letting his eyes take in the outfit she wore and appreciating it. The top was form fitting without looking like it was too small, and the boots made her appear taller. Over all, he was completely smitten. "Advice... I don't got. Because there is no way to prepare for this kind of thing." he told her with a wink. Giving her a kiss on the cheek for luck. Aiden held the door open and together they ventured into the crowd, Aiden having his gave face on instantly

Foolish as it was, the single thing Becca was regretting most were the gloves. She'd added the opera-length black satin gloves to the outfit as a sort of private joke between her and William, an affectionate reminder and sort of teasing challenge. And now that things were...different, she wished she could do without them. But there wasn't time to change it all, the jewelry and shoes had been bought to bring black into the outfit and she was no longer willing to draw on the resources of the club and Court to pull together a different set of jewelry that would still go with the dress, so she was stuck with what she'd originally planned and trying not to think about that night in the carriage, the game they'd played and the happiness of those stolen hours. But she hid that the way she was hiding everything else, tonight of all nights Rebecca had her game face on. Dressed in vintage beaded ivory silk with the antique jewelry, her blonde hair in elaborate fingerwaves, she smiled and posed for the cameras, one gloved hand tucked around William's arm and her posture and body language always reflecting the image they needed to show. Always the worshipful and adoring wife, gracious and just a tiny bit shy, happier to let William have the spotlight and to make herself into a lovely accessory. The next morning the photos would show Becca smiling sweetly for the cameras only when called directly to it, otherwise her eyes were on William. Always the fantasy love affair, always that adoration in her eyes and voice when she spoke of him and of their dear friend who accompanied them and when a reporter seeking a titillating sound byte called out a question about the exact nature of their relationship to their 'dear friend' in the red gown, Rebecca laughed and blushed and answered that Viviane was a very dear friend, of them both. Once they were inside, Becca didn't drop William's arm only because they were still putting on the show. There were still people who needed to believe what William chose to show them. She smiled up at Will, the expression was perfect but her eyes showed nothing at all. "It could have. No protesters, no TMZ guys rushing the door, no screaming preteen fans. Now the next six hours just need to go as well." She patted his forearm and reminded them both quietly, "There's local press covering the party itself." The warning more for Viviane than William--nobody got to drop their masks tonight. DIANA: Di grinned at Mattie and wrapped her arm around Mai's waist. "This is Mai, an old and very good friend." The smug smile was for the camera more than Mattie, the mischeif in her eyes was all for the reporter. JAMIE: Jamie smiled at Genvieve, a little surprised that she'd spotted it. "Right. And you're the babe in the wilderness. Is there a Huntsman on his way tonight to save you in case of trouble?"

EDWARD He smiled and walked over to Aurora. "Wow. I feel overdressed." he said with a grin. "You look amazing, Aurora. Nice costume choice." He slipped his glasses off and tucked them in the vest pocket.
GAVIN He saw Aiden and gave him a wink as he passed, heading for the bar for a drink. Since his favorite kitten was busy, he would look over the crowd for someone to occupy him for the night.
IANTO He made his way to a place out of the way and stood silently, watching people move around the club. He stayed put for a few moments before making his way over to the bar for something to drink.
