Welcome to Elixir of Life!

The board was officially opened on February 11, 2007, and since it's fairly new, I hope we get a lot of ideas from you guys!

Also, say hello to our new admin, Zenther!

Please bear with us since we are still trying to build the RP. More interesting stuff are soon to come!

Rules

Forum Rules

• Respect all the members of the forum, especially the admins and the mods.
Enough said.

• Observe netiquette.
According to Wikipedia, netiquette is “a catch-all term for the conventions of politeness recognized on Usenet, in mailing lists, and on other electronic forums such as Internet message boards.” This pretty much sums up the forum rules.

• Avoid posting spam (Stupid, Pointless, Annoying Messages).
Replying “that’s nice” or “thanks” is considered spam. And it is very looked down upon by the admins. Consistent spamming will result to banishment.

• Avoid posting obscene and/or gory materials.
We’re trying to keep this forum PG-13. Besides, Invisionfree Terms apply.

• The maximum width for images is 535px. Image signatures should only be up to 535x100.
Big images tend to mess up the forum layout.

• Avoid double posting.
The edit button is your friend, my dear. But let’s say you would like to bump (Bring Up My Thread) your topic, then you may double post. However, the admins and mods are going to be strict with bumping.

• Don’t pester the admins/mods too often.
Sure, we are always here to help, but please, browse the Help Forum first. Most probably you’d find the answer to your question there. Or if you don’t see the answer to your problem there, just post a message.

• Stay active.
Please do, okay?

• Don’t shed blood on the forums.
If you’re having trouble with one of our members, please just PM or e-mail them. And please, don’t be mad to the RPers behind the characters. If a certain character annoys you, don’t be mad. This is just an RP anyway, so we should just have fun, okay?

• Don’t type iN sTiCkY cApS or n txt spk.
This is a total pet peeve to Miss Yuki, so if you don’t want her to get mad, don’t write in that style.

• Don’t use foul language.
If you’re posting on any Out of Character board, please avoid saying foul words. It’s you who’s speaking/posting, not your character.

• Browse before posting.
Don’t just post a topic when there’s something bothering you—browse the forums. All of the necessary info about the RP and the boards are posted somewhere around here, so all you need is to read.

• Multiple accounts are not allowed.
We allow multiple characters, but not multiple accounts. If we caught you having multiple accounts, we will suspend your accounts or even have you banned here.

RP Rules

• Canon characters are not allowed.
We can’t stress this enough. You are not on a Fullmetal Alchemist RPG, you are on a Fullmetal Alchemist-based RPG. So there’s no way you can be Edward Elric or the Flame Alchemist in this roleplay.

• Avoid pointless OOCs.
We allow OOCs but make it short and somehow related with your RP. I mean, we can’t have you RPing about the State Alchemist Exam then you go ((OOC: I like bananas.)).

• Your post should at least be of 5 chunky sentences.
This is not to make your mind bleed; this is to stimulate your creative senses.

• Please be aware of your spelling and grammar.
Admins and mods of the Elixir of Life are not spelling and grammar Nazis, but please observe good spelling and grammar. Use Microsoft Word and the like if you’re not sure of your sentence/paragraph construction.

• Don’t godmod.
This is a big offense in role-playing. Nobody in this forum is allowed to godmod. Godmodding by the way means to control another’s character.

• Don’t create Mary Sues/Marty Stus.
We don’t want any alchemist prodigies or uber geniuses in this RP. It ruins the fun in roleplaying. In case you’re wondering, a Mary Sue/Marty Stu is an uber powerful, beautiful/handsome, intelligent, lovable character who exists only to ruin a well written story/RP.

• Don’t plagiarize/rip off/steal others’ works.
When we say no stealing, we mean no stealing. Don’t roleplay as Winry Rockbell or Haruhi Fujioka or Jean Grey or Edward Elric in this forum. Don’t steal others’ characters. If you want, just base your characters to other characters but make your own. Please, just BASE.

• Be creative.
Period. This is the reason why we have applications—to ensure that all players in this RP will have fun. It’s not fun when you RP with a very uncreative character, right?

• Place warnings on your threads if the need arises.
We are all open-minded (right?) in the forums, but if you decide to make a gory or sexy storyline, then put a warning on the title of your topic or better yet, say it in the topic description.

• Time is important and metagaming isn’t allowed.
Let’s say you obtain information in a certain storyline (SL1). Your character CAN’T know about it in another storyline (SL2) which happens before SL1. If you do that, that means you are metagaming, and that isn’t allowed here. Metagaming is when you write something that you, the RPer, know but your character doesn’t. For example, your PC meets another PC. You (the RPer) know that this PC is a woman. In the SL, you don’t mention (and maybe the other RPer didn’t specify) that your character knows that this PC is a woman. IF you write that you know that this PC is a woman, then you’re metagaming.

• Posts should be made in the past tense and in third person.
You should always speak in the past tense and in third person because in a roleplay, it is a given fact that one is narrating something. Be descriptive and creative.

You should not RP like this:
::walks quietly then sits::. ::turns around:: Hi!

Or like this:
I walked quietly then sat on a couch. I tilted my head then said “Hi.” to the person next to me.

The right way to RP here is like this:
Yuki was walking quietly towards the couch then sat on it. Noticing that somebody was there, she turned around and smiled. “Hi,” she greeted.

• Your character profiles must be on your signature.
You are all required to post the link of your characters’ profiles on your signature, regardless if you have multiple PCs or not. This is so that it’s easy for people to know more about your characters and at the same time it’s a good method of claiming your character/s.

I suggest that everyone should browse everything in the Information board, as well as all the pinned topics all over the forums.
