General Debate Forum Rules

The E-Literature debate forum is for members to express their views and intelligently debate issues that are affecting our modern world. From political issues to historical issues to personal issues, the debate forum is a place to share your opinions and practice your persuasive techniques in real situations. Debates will have no clear winners or losers, and the debates are meant to be fun.

• Base Ruleset
Posts in the debate forum are to follow the base E-Literature board rules as well as the rulses specific to this forum.

• Debate Intelligently
The debate forum is for intelligent debating. This means that you should think about what you are saying and present it clearly. Make sure you know what you're talking about, and please read (or at least skim) through the previous posts in the topic to know what points have been made and what arguements have been presented. Also, if you have evidence to back up your claims (such as articles), your points will be that much more valued and respected. Basically, just make sure that you put some thought into what th debate is about.

• Respect Opinions
In heated debates, it is very easy for flame arguements to erupt. Please be respectful of other members' opinions and remember that you are here to intelligently debate, not to insult others for their beliefs and stances. The purpose of these debates is to share opinions and knowledge about events in our world, and perhaps to get others to see from your point of view. This works in both ways, however. If another member is insulting you, we ask that you do not sink to his or her level. Remember to respect the opinions of other members, even though you do not necessarily believe in them.

• Keep an Open Mind
While no doubt there will be many opinions and stances that you yourself do not agree with, remember to remind yourself that people do actually hold these beliefs, as absurd as some may seem to you. Keep in mind also that they may actually be correst. Some things are simple fact, despite what many people wish to think. Leave your mind open to things. And while we don't ask that you convert to another's religion due to these debates, we do ask that you simply accept the possibility that there's credibility in what others are saying.

As always, leave any situations to the moderating team (administrators and moderators). Remember that, beside the rules, this is a place to have fun in an intelligent way. Express your opinions and counter those of others (respectfully). Have fun.
