I thought there was a MGMT thread but can't find it.

Could someone possibly post a link to the whole Oracular Spectacular album. If you would be so kind. I want to (finally) hear the whole thing on my long plane rides tomorrow, but none of my local record stores have it. Thx.

radiowires - November 29, 2007 05:53 PM (GMT)
Plus any other albums you recommend. Help out a guy with music-ADD and -OCD. Be an enabler. I'm bored with my ipod right now.

radiowires - November 29, 2007 06:07 PM (GMT)
And as a thank you gesture for providing me Oracular, I'll even record a video of myself dancing the Electric Feel in the airplane lavatory at 3 am over the Atlantic at 30,000 feet.

I would do it in the aisle of the plane but the 4ir m4rsh411s would probably shoot me

vertiginous - November 29, 2007 07:33 PM (GMT)
SOMEONE WITH ALBUM GIVE IT TO THE MAN I NEED TO SEE THIS DANCE.

Shiny - November 29, 2007 08:56 PM (GMT)
Alright radiowires, I'm uploading it to sendspace right now

And hey, I'll send it to you twice if you convince one of the flight attendants to bust into the lavatory while you're filming your dance and yell, "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH, I've had it with this motherfucking Electric Feel on this motherfucking plane!"

superman - November 29, 2007 09:48 PM (GMT)

Electric Feel Mile High Club!

(Nobody will hear it because I'd be listening to it on my iPod. I figure if you're going to combine all these into one collage video you don't the audio for every single one.)

vertiginous - November 29, 2007 10:01 PM (GMT)
oohwee i am excited.

superman - November 29, 2007 10:02 PM (GMT)

radiowires - November 29, 2007 10:05 PM (GMT)

Could use more Mountain Goats since I'm going to see them but only have ZM. not interested in kraftwerk (OD'd on that years ago). John cale would be grawesome, thx.

superman - November 29, 2007 10:14 PM (GMT)
okay, i'll go in order of importance, since we have limited time. i'm uploading paris 1919 right now, that is too sweet. then i'll do jens night falls over kortedala. then we'll try for the island years, john c. then a little marc bolan, then maybe beirut. and go from there!

Yummy Tree Sap - November 29, 2007 10:29 PM (GMT)
Not sure what I'll think about Paris 1919; I prefer John Cale in his exploraations into the avant-garde, but I'll be sure to steal it from you.

OK, thanks, that's all I can handle tonight! I'm downloading them with superfast hardwire line at work but it's still going to take over an hour. Once I get home to my wireless (soon I hope) I won't be able to get any more. So--- much appreciated but anything more won't be listened to, at least on this trip. THANKS!

superman - November 30, 2007 12:50 AM (GMT)

mgmt did not impress after the 3rd or 4th track...

Yummy Tree Sap - December 1, 2007 04:41 AM (GMT)
They definitely didn't impress when I saw them live a couple years ago. Quite horrendous, if you ask me.

I was under the impression that they got better. Don't have any initiative to download the new one, though.

clouds - December 1, 2007 04:46 AM (GMT)
I liked the track that was supposed to be the best, and I agree that it waas their best. But what made it good was that it successfully merged a very 70s sound while a little more electronic. But other than a few songs the prodcution falls flat, the songs aren't that clever, and electric feel feels very unoriginal.

Yummy Tree Sap - December 4, 2007 03:31 PM (GMT)
Basically, my thoughts on MGMT sum up as follows. I posted this at the Townhall too.

When I saw Of Montreal two years ago with MGMT, I thought everyone shared my hatred for them. A truly fucking embarrassing band, they were. It was like watching two drunken frat boys jump on stage and play with the upcoming band's synth and drum machine.

Now they seem to be the "in" band. And they're on a major label?!

Maybe they have gotten legitimately better, or maybe people like the "drunken frat boy" appeal. I don't know. I guess I still cannot be arsed to give them a second try. They just sucked too hard.

Even if they have gotten better, I still cannot help but feel that they are a fad that will quickly fade.

clouds - December 4, 2007 03:41 PM (GMT)
They seemed almost classic rock radio friendly, like they could have fit right in.

Shiny - January 7, 2008 02:26 AM (GMT)
For those who like MGMT and don't visit the Townhall regularly or at all: MGMT is playing on the Late Show with David Letterman on Tuesday

vertiginous - January 8, 2008 05:18 AM (GMT)
i thought today was tuesday and got eggzcited but then realized it was in fact, monday.

radiowires - January 8, 2008 02:05 PM (GMT)

Shiny - January 16, 2008 03:00 PM (GMT)

Yummy Tree Sap - January 19, 2008 09:58 PM (GMT)

Yeah I know, I feel lamesauce for posting in this thread all the time and being a little MGMT fanboy, but the show was worth me making a post about it. They seem to have a lot more energy than the last time they toured with of Montreal, they "jam out" more in between songs, and it was just altogether a good time. They opened up with a brand new song. I'm going to call it "Mental Mystic" because that was said a lot. Oh, and I brought a friend who had never heard them, and he really enjoyed it, calling them "fantastic". Since I'm always anxious about dragging people to shows where they've never heard of the band, it's always a plus when they enjoy it and I feel good when I turn people on to something that they end up liking.

stompclapclap - February 18, 2008 06:49 PM (GMT)
categgs, i forgot to tell you all - i totally did the electric feel dance when i saw them in january. also, the new song that shiny mentioned - soooooo gooooood.
