I beg to differ quite a lot. Mono can, and does, get quite fucking heavy and noisy at times.

clouds - October 3, 2007 04:03 AM (GMT)
well, i must have missed that.

VERY SCARY - October 3, 2007 07:27 PM (GMT)
i mean it depends. yeah you could call them that. although i know bands hate being called post-rock, cause there's no such thing. but their albums differ. You Are There is a bit slower i guess and spacey, although that too gets quite intense. But One More Step and You Die is fucking killer. that band it's love is great. check out LIFE on their page. their ep is amazing. also miaou, future pavilion

Pãýl - October 3, 2007 08:32 PM (GMT)
hm...these sounds a little too much like japanese bands trying to sound american. can you people recommend something that sounds more japanese?

clouds - October 3, 2007 11:02 PM (GMT)
????

what exactly causes a band to sound american? ippei matsui sounds pretty unique.

The Pillows
The Seatbelts

clouds - January 14, 2008 02:55 AM (GMT)
I'm trying my best to forget the pillows. 4 sucky albums in a row and a rabid fanbase/forum has killed any desire to listen to them. I feel the same way about of montreal except for cherry peel.

Tablesandchairs - January 14, 2008 04:08 AM (GMT)
Huh. I only have one album and wasn't even aware they had a fanbase, never mind one with rabies. I can't find much on them online, but it's been a while since I've checked.

Is Melt-banana worth checking out?

Have you seen All About Lily Chou Chou?

It's one of my favorites ever.

I guess it depends on whether you have an inclination toward or an aversion to noise-rock. If the latter is true, then I don't think I would suggest them to you. Otherwise, yes. They're very much worth checking out.

Scratch or Stitch is good. Try it.

Yeah I have only had limited exposure to them, two or three songs tops. I didn't love it, but it wasn't so bad for a genre that fosters some of the worst 'musical' endeavors. Thanks for the evaluation and go ahead, I'll look more deeply into their stuff.

My general attitude towards noise-rock/thrash/most things that end in 'core':

I don't mind it, maybe even like it, untill the vocals come in.

I think Mono and Elekibass are the only Japanese bands I even know.
