That's kinda unlistenable. The actual video has Wes Anderson references and style, but it just seems like the song is intentionally trying to be indie pop, instead of being indie pop.

That's the actual video.

I heard a track by Noah and the Whale about a week ago. Afterwards the DJ said it was by Noah and the Whale and I thought "so that's what they sound like! it's not very good".

I think these are one of Jo Whiley's bands, so I ignore them at every available opportunity on principle. I'm such a snob :duff:

Jo Whiley is such a hateful bitch!

Yeah she is, she gets everywhere too. She wouldn't be quite so bad if she were dead.

I don't like this band either. It reminded me of why I don't really listen to twee anymore.

Dead would be an improvement.

To me, seems less actual twee and more a checklist of weakly played out signifiers. Comparatively it's to Sarah Records what The Outhere Brothers were to, say, Eric B and Rakim.

If twee really exists, it's all,

Maybe a lot of mainstream acts these days are perhaps better addressed as being pastiches of the genre they're perceived to be representing?

So I was able to tolerate about 30 seconds of that. My roomate heard it from the livingroom and our conversation went like this:
Casey: What was that?
Me: Noah and the Whale. It kinda sucks.
Casey: It really kinda fucking sucks.

so i'm listening to the first song now. i immediately recognized it as "that one song they use in that car advert that's always playing". and in the ad, the clip is pretty grating, but here in context i actually don't think it's all that bad. the music video so far has nothing to do with wes anderson outside of the typeface, though.

Whenever I have to make a Powerpoint presentation I use Emma's House.

And LOTS of swoosh effects.

I don't know too much about early nineties hip-hop, but I get your point. Weakly played out signifiers is a precise way of putting it. I LOVE Camera Obscura though, and I guess they're sort of twee. "Drowned my sorrows and slept around/If not in body, then at least in mind".
