bailey was pretty sure that there had been a time in her life when she was happy and blissfully unaware of the real world around her. when she was young and it was just her sister and mother… she hadn’t known that people were evil or had agendas. she had no idea that her youth would be stripped away from her or that as an adult she would be faced with everything that she was faced with. the brunette always found herself wondering if her life would eventually get easier; if the happiness that she felt with her boyfriend and the sense of relief she felt now that her sister knew about her past would outweigh the pain she carried around with her. her life still wasn’t easy and while she kept holding on to the hope that maybe it would, she was slowly beginning to give up on that possibility and come to accept the fact that she would always have to work at being happy.

she had spent her morning at her therapist’s office speaking with her about everything and anything. her once weekly appointments were now once every two weeks which made the hour seem to rocket by. it wasn’t so much that she needed the assistance like she had once but this time it was about continuing on. about getting past the smaller more basic hurdles that some people saw as normal everyday occurrences. she’d been doing relatively well but something had been off recently and she was still trying to pinpoint the exact reason for why it had been that way. bailey had always been a little emotional but lately she felt as if her emotions were much more out of whack than what was considered normal for pms. the thought of what was going on had her mind racing as she made her way to work. it wasn’t until she got her lunch break that she really started to think a bit more about it.

she still had two more hours left of work and when she was done she had one small little thing in her purse that could potentially hold all the answers of her emotional-ness. it wasn’t until she got home to an empty house that she realized that she didn’t want to do this alone. she bit her lip as she shot off a text message to mackenzie asking her if she could come over to the house. she left out the details of why and made her way into the kitchen. she had told her that the door was unlocked and just to come on in and as she waited for kenzie to get there she pulled out a carton of milk, two cups, and a tupperware full of chocolate chip cookies that she had made the night before when she couldn’t sleep. she heard the door open and close, a small smile forming on her face, “in the kitchen,” she yelled out letting her know where she is.

There was that difference between Kenzie and Bailey that had always been. Her sister the more..quiet and sensitive one in many ways where Mackenzie could be down rambunctious, almost from the day she was born. Where Bailey may hope for better times and slowly work to overcome what was hard and painful to deal with, Kenzie went ahead and took or found her happiness. It didn’t mean it erased the pain of the past she too had endured and the guilt she would now forever feel about what happen to her sister. But Kenzie was..well she wasn’t sure if she was stronger of the two. Just one to not get easily beat down and give up. Not to mention she was rather impatient. Instead of waiting and depending on hope she just took what she could get when opportunity presented itself and lived in the moment of satisfactory. It was a tough process, having to work for it and push through it. But she felt it was something they both were more than capable of. Because life didn’t give you a choice all the time, sometimes that was all you were left with.

Things had slowly but surely returned back to normal between Kenzie and her sister. It had taken her a, moment, not just process what had happen but also just deal with the realization of everything that was really beyond her control of being able to do anything to fix it now. One thing was for sure though. Where there had been that slight bit of contact with their mother, and the hope to one day forgive and get over what had happen. That was no more. She had cut all ties with the woman after giving her more than just a piece of her mind over the phone one night. She never wanted anything else to do with her again. Because she was the blame. From the very beginning it was all her fault for ever bringing that sick miserable bastard in to destroy the lives of her daughters. That was NOT what a mother was supposed to do. And for that, it was just unforgivable.

Pulling up to the house Kenzie wasn’t sure what to expect from her sisters simple message to come by the house. She didn’t think it was anything wrong exactly. It could just be a simple visit, which never hurt. They didn’t seem to get enough of those in general mainly because of her job position as manager at the club but so also felt more effort needed to be put into that area because she only wanted to build onto their strengthening bond. She moved up to the front door and let herself in. “Hello, hello!” she was voicing aloud to announce her presence. The fact that she wasn’t instantly greeted by the familiar dog proved Cale was probably out with ‘their child’ having fun somewhere. So it was just her and her sister.

Closing the door behind her she moved in the direction of her sister. She was looking trendy and cool in the off the shoulder cut, simple black beach dress. Proving she clearly had a day off work, and actually wasn’t sure of her plans for the door, so far she hadn’t been out until receiving the text so she had tossed something simple on and headed over right away. “Hey! Whats up?” she greeted warmly as she was setting her sunglasses and keys down on the counter. Continuing forward she gave her sister a quick hug. “Mmm cookies and coold milk, you read my mind dear sister.

bailey turned to look at her sister, a smile growing across her face when she saw her. it was funny to think that even at twenty-one years old she felt more comfortable and safe when her sister was around. it didn’t matter that they had been separated for years or that at one point in time bailey had been angry with her. something had shifted when she’d told her and now all she saw was the sister that she’d idolized when they were younger. only three years separated them but bailey had always looked up to her older sister, thought of her as the most amazing being in the world. where bailey was weak and self-conscious, kenzie was strong and confident. she’d always wanted to be more like her big sister and had high hopes when she was little that she would be just like her. of course, life had a way of changing that and while their stepfather had taken a lot from both girls, bailey refused to allow him to take away the relationship that she had with her sister.

she wrapped her arms around mackenzie as she hugged her back, bringing the cookies to the counter and nodding towards the stools so that they could sit down and eat milk and cookies. she laughed at her sister’s comment and offered up a shrug of her shoulders, “homemade cookies. i was having trouble sleeping last night so i made ‘em.” it was no secret to anyone that knew cale gibson that the male had a serious sweet tooth. anytime she made brownies or cookies she always had to put a separate tin for him and make sure that he knew that only those were for him or else he’d eat them all. she ran her hands through her dark hair as she moved to climb up on the stool to sit down. she brought her glass closer to her before pouring the milk in it. she was taking her time as she tried to think of what to say and how exactly to say it without sounding dumb.

“so…” she began as she lifted a cookie. she broke it in half placing one side down before moving to dip the other side into the milk, “i had a therapy session today and i don’t know exactly when i realized it or whatever… but it came to my attention that i haven’t had my um,” she paused unsure of why she suddenly felt uncomfortable talking about this. she was a nurse; or well, still going to school to become one while she worked in the maternity ward, “menstrual cycle. and i think i could possibly be pregnant.” her voice had gotten much softer at the end of the sentence, an obvious amount of fear creeping into her tone. it wasn’t as if she thought cale would leave her or that they couldn’t provide for a child. she knew that cale would make an excellent father it was the idea of bringing someone else into the world when she could just barely take care of herself. she didn’t want to mess up an innocent life just by being who she was.

Kenzie was happy that she and her sister seemed to be able to reconnect on a whole new level now that everything was out in the open. She could see the amount of weight that had been lifted from her younger sister. And could relate to that sense of freedom it was able to bring when overcoming it all by getting it out. For Kenzie she hadn’t had anyone to run and tell such a thing to. In the end it was just getting away from everything entirely and making a life for herself she could be proud of that really helped her through the troubled and trying times. Now it was about being there for her sister. And it just seemed like the two of them were reaching a better, happier place now days.

Kenzie rubbed her back as they hugged before parting from her, following her over to take a seat on the stool at the counter “oh that had to be nice for Cale, waking up to all this sweet goodness.” It was a sweet tooth her and Cale could share. Though Kenzie was on pretty friendly terms with most junk food. That had always been the interesting balance between her and Scarlett – who was more or less a health nut and honestly just didn’t favor anything that was overly sweet or junky. Kenzie was helping herself to a cookie, moaning after taking a bite “Delicious!” she held it up and nodded before smiling, taking another bite. “So whats up?

Kenz was taking a sip of her milk after setting her cookie aside. Looking to her sister when she began talking about her therapy session. It had Kenz turning a bit more serious since it seemed it had something to do with that, but when Bailey was taking pause, kenzie arched a brow at her. Though when dropping the bomb about a possible pregnancy, both eyebrows were shooting up “Seriously???” she was glancing around the house before looking back at her “You tell Cale? How late are you?” she was questioning as a hand reached out to take her sisters when seeing the girl clearly was nervous and in need of a bit of comfort. But she couldn’t gage exactly how good or bad a thing this was. Cale and Bailey were close, very good in their relationship it seemed but a child… that was a big deal. In a lot of ways it was the thing that had started the slight spiral between Scarlett and herself. So there was definitely reason to worry. “You know the only sure way to find out if you are or not is to take the test.

when bailey was a little girl she used to walk around holding a baby doll that for some unknown reason she had named brooke. she carried the baby around as if it was in fact a a baby and treat the blonde haired blue eyed doll as such. it wasn’t the most uncommon sight in the world; after all, most little girls wanted to be mommies when they grew up. but bailey had grown up and after seeing the kind of mother that she had been given the last thing she wanted to do was be like her. she didn’t want to inflict all her own personal problems onto a child. she didn’t want the stuff that constantly went on in her mind, the struggle that it was at times to just get out of bed, to be something that her child had to deal with. at a very young age she had decided this and it had never really been a problem.

it’d taken her some time to sleep with cale and even then they were both very careful about being protected so that pregnancy wasn’t an issue but somehow something had gone wrong. she watched as kenzie turned her head to look around maybe looking for cale and she nodded her head when she questioned if she was serious. “no, i haven’t told him yet. i wanted to make sure before i told him,” she said with a slight shrug of her shoulders. there was no use in panicking him as well as herself. “and i’m a week and a half late. so, maybe it’s just a fluke or something…” she said with a small amount of hope in her words. she couldn’t help but hope to be over thinking or jumping the gun when it came to being pregnant. after all, she worked in a hospital maternity ward… it made sense that she’d have babies on the brain.

she reached over to grab her purse from the edge of the counter, dragging it along until it was in front of her. “i grabbed two,” she told her with a slight chuckle as she pulled the boxes out. she put both on the counter as she looked at her with wider eyes and a shake of her head, “i was kind of waiting for you to be here before i took them?” she told her as she brought her bottom lip into her mouth to bite on it, “that way if i faint…” she said with a teasing tone and a laugh to let her know that she was only kidding about fainting. she brought a piece of the cookie back to her mouth and chewed on it before letting out a breath, “i’ll go… take it,” she said with a nod of her as she excused herself.

she made her way out of the bathroom a few minutes later, the test resting on the box as she put the timer on the microwave, “three minutes…. the test says it takes three minutes.” she placed the box with the test on it on the far counter before washing her hands once more and making her way back to the stool that she had been sitting on before.

Kenzie did consider herself very independent and confident enough to take care of herself. She had really had no choice but to do so over the last few years of her life being on her own. But to have the responsibility of raising a child. It was definitely something she didn’t feel capable of doing. It was a big deal and she wasn’t exactly given the perfect example of what a true mother should be like. She had her beliefs and even had blasted her mother with certain demands she felt her mother had failed to do. But to have that responsibility herself. It just was something that scared her and could easily shatter all the confidence she had. So motherhood for Kenzie was for the most part out of the question. Possibly not forever. Having a family with someone she loved was definitely a topic of discussion that’d come up more than once in her life. But really it was just about knowing when the moment was right. Now, and anytime in the near future, wasn’t the right time.

Good.” she voiced quickly though realizing how it may have sounded she was clarifying to her sister “I mean not.. good good but. Might as well not get him involved in case, like you said it’s a fluke. It probably is. I mean it could be, I was two weeks late once. You can imagine one of the scariest moments of my life heh.” Sometimes it happen; thing in the body changed and there could be a shift in the cycle. She knew cale and Bailey were close and only growing closer. There was no doubt in Kenzie’s mind anymore about trusting Cale to be there for her sister in every way that mattered, and then some. He was good for her sister. Both of them balanced each other out in a very special way that she just adored. Having kids would be something so beautiful for the two of them. But she did think marriage should probably be the next MAJOR step if there was going to be any new surprises happening between them. Then if they wanted to think about kids that would be the natural, right order of things.

Kenzie was looking at the boxes laid out, checking out the brands “Hah two is good, 3-5 even better.” she gave a laugh reaching to rub at her sisters arm once more “I’ll totally catch you promise. But it would still be on you completely to tell Cale. ” She was helping in opening up the boxes and giving them to her sister to go take. While Bailey was taking them Kenzie began reading over the instructions, so they would both know what it meant if she was pregnant or not pregnant. She was taking a deep breath when her sister returned, informing her how long it would take “alright…

Rubbing her hands together she was offering her sister a smile “Nervous?” she was nervous. Growing more and more nervous for her sister now by the second “Have, you and Cale talked about this? Y’know the possibility if it ever happen? How you both feel about it and all…

BAILEY RAE BARRET - August 11, 2012 12:32 AM (GMT)

the relationship between cale and bailey was solid. there was no doubt between them. they knew that they loved each other and believed that they would be spending the rest of their lives together. but that didn’t mean that their relationship was ready for a baby. there was an order of things. there was supposed to be an engagement, a wedding, marriage. all these things were supposed to take place before a baby was brought into the world. it was a journey that was many years in the making. it was the future not the present; at least that was how it was supposed to be. she let out a soft sigh when mackenzie seemed to feel the same way about holding off on telling cale. she nodded her head letting out a nervous laugh as the older brunette mentioned having a scare of her own. she let out a soft breath knowing that it was a possibility; however, when she worked at a maternity ward and saw babies as much as she did [and learned about them in her classes] she couldn’t get the idea out of her that that maybe may actually be a yes.

once she returned from the bathroom, green eyes wider than they were before she looked at her sister and nodded her head when she questioned if she was nervous. “we’ve touched upon it very lightly. but nothing really big. like, when his friend odessa had a baby he mentioned it and at the beginning of our relationship we did. but nothing in regards to me actually having a baby.” she knew that cale would be an exceptional father. she had absolutely no doubt in her mind about that. he was a fun guy who had a lot of energy and a great heart. she just didn’t know if she wanted that; if she wanted to throw her baggage on such an innocent little child or share cale with anyone else just yet. she loved babies but from a distance. she let out a soft sigh as she reached over to take a hold of the cookie and brought it to her mouth as she closed her eyes and tried to get her body to relax. maybe things would work out; maybe she wouldn’t have to ever tell him about this scare and it would just be between sisters. she heard the ding of the timer telling her that she could look and she grabbed her sister’s hand, pulling her with her towards the box that was set up with both sticks. she let out a deep breath as she reached for one hoping kenz would reach for the other. the moment of truth. she took a few more deep breaths before she finally looked down to see what the verdict was.

All I've ever wanted was destiny to be fulfilled.
It is in my hands, I must not fail, I must not fail
Even through the darkest days.

The morning had gone basically to routine. They both got up early and they had breakfast together before Bailey went off to work at the hospital and Cale set upon fixing a few things up before he went on a run which was something he had started to do lately mainly to keep himself occupied … plus the dogs liked the extra run he got since he often went along with Bailey on hers. He was really getting into a routine now and wasn’t limiting himself to the house. He had been watching some football but not missing it half as much as he did last season.

Once he had finished the jog; he left the house to go into town after dropping the dog back at the house. He figured that they could use some shopping and he also figured he could use a few little things for himself. He wasn’t a real shopaholic but he did need some new things every once and awhile. Once he had done what he needed to do at the mall he got something to eat and did the grocery shopping. It was around the time that Bailey would be finishing work when he looked at his phone so he decided to grab her something to eat from her favourite take out place and head home.

Cale walked into the door having parked his behind Mackenzie’s so he figured that Bailey’s sister was over visiting but he didn’t see either girl in the kitchen or living room. He was only greeted by Booth when he walked into the living room and set the bags down on the couch (an odd place obviously) as he petted the dog and looked around for Bailey who normally would come out to give him a kiss when he walked in. He shook his head and figured that the girls were probably in the backyard, soaking up the hot sun. It was certainly an appealing prospect.

He normally brushed his teeth after eating so he decided to head up to the bathroom to do that now. He pushed Booth out of his path since the dog seemed hell bent on blocking his way for the entire day and walked up the hall towards the bathroom. He licked his lips as he got to the bathroom door and pushed it open … unsuspectingly walking in on his girlfriend and her sister in there. It didn’t dawn to him at first that she was holding a pregnancy tester thing and all he could do was shout out an apology for not knocking on the door first. It was a few moments later that he realised what he had actually seen and shook his head lightly. He didn’t really know what to do or say so he casually (as he could) made his way back down the hall towards the kitchen.

Kenzie definitely didn’t have any reason to doubt her sister and Cale would make wonderful parents. They were as cute as can be, and definitely more responsible, mature and put together as a committed couple should be to raise a child. It didn’t necessarily matter when it came to the order of things. It just was mattered that they remain devoted to one another and both were willing to commit themselves to a child they would be having together. If, they were in fact having a child together.

Kenzie found it hard to eat the homemade treat, but she did take a sip of the cold glass of milk. Only to find it would’ve been nicer to taste something on her tongue that had a bit more of a kick to it. Like some sort of blended alcohol drink or something. She wasn’t sure why SHE was so nervous. She wasn’t the one having the baby, it was her sister. However she knew how big of a deal this could be for her sister, it was written all over the poor girls stressed out face. When the timer went off Kenzie was taking her sisters hand and moving with Bailey back into the bathroom.

It was the moment of truth indeed. And the worst possible timing for Cale to arrive back home. Kenzie carefully picked up the second tester as her sister grabbed the first “Holy, Crap…” it probably wasn’t the best choice wording for Cale to probably be walking in on. Of course how were they to know he would just waltz right into the bathroom. It quickly startled Kenzie for one. She was gasp, eyes widening and she took to standing stock still, with the pregnancy tester in hand as clear as day. Mouth dropped as she watched him move in only to quickly back peddle while shouting out an apology. She cringed, turning stiffly to look at her sister before passing the stick over to Bailey. “I thought he was going to be gone for awhile??” she was voicing in a rushed whisper, moving to the sink to wash her hands real quick. And after drying she was sighing looking back to Bailey before carefully moving to the door, putting her ear up to it. “I think hes up in the living room or kitchen… What are you going to say?” its not like they could stay in there. Or pretend he didn’t see anything. Because she was pretty sure the secret was completely out. “You want me to go out first?? Maybe you should. Act natural. See what he says.

BAILEY RAE BARRET - September 18, 2012 08:21 PM (GMT)
[dohtml]

Bailey really didn’t want to think about the idea of them having a child; she didn’t want to think about the look on Cale’s face or the reaction that his mother would have. It was just so much easier to believe that this was just a mistake. That the test would come back telling her that she was clearly not pregnant and she’d just been a little wacky in the head to think that she had been. It wasn’t exactly helping either that Mackenzie seemed almost just as nervous as she was. She appreciated it, it just wasn’t exactly the emotion she was hoping for in the moment. It wasn’t that Bailey hated children or would think it was the absolute worst thing in the entire world if she had children; it was just that she wasn’t ready. She wasn’t ready to raise someone in a world where she still didn’t feel fully a part of. She couldn’t deny that sometimes she felt incredibly disconnected and really uncomfortable in her own skin like she just didn’t fit into the world. As if she was born at the wrong time and just simply did not belong. The thought of bringing a child into the world who would feel the exactly same way she did- well she wasn’t sure that her heart could bear that.

Bailey took a deep breath as her sister picked up one test and she picked up the other, green eyes meeting hazel before they both looked down at the test. Her eyes widened as she heard the door open just as she was looking up at her sister and her choice of words. Her hand was holding on to one pregnancy test, eyes wide and clouded over because she still wasn’t aware of what the test in her sister’s hand read. She knew what hers read but was starting to freak out thinking that maybe, possibly her sisters said the opposite which would only have her head spinning more. It wasn’t until Mackenzie was handing over the test, Bailey’s face pale from the quick entrance [and even faster exit] of her boyfriend from the bathroom. Negative. Both tests were telling her that she was in fact, not pregnant. She let out a soft breath in relief though that only lasted a grand total of five seconds before Kenzie was questioning her on why Cale was home. “I- I thought he was… He’s early,” she said with a shake of her head, the first movement that she made since he’d barged inside. She heard the water running as Mackenzie washed her hands and only then did she finally move to place both tests on the counter. She would have thrown them away but figured maybe Cale would actually want to see that it said she wasn’t for whatever reason. She leaned over to wash her hands as well, nodding her head when she mentioned that he obviously wasn’t waiting outside the door for them and she shrugged as she quickly dried her hands on the hand towel, “I don’t- I don’t know. I didn’t think I was going to have to say anything since they said I’m not.” She hadn’t planned on what to say to him and suddenly she was having to think on her feet which had never been her strong suit.

A very soft chuckle escaped her as she bowed her head at her sister’s words. “Act natural?” she questioned peaking up at her sister. She was still fairly terrified but there was something comical about the way Mackenzie had told her to just act natural. She was awkward without the awkward confrontation and now that she’d had it it was even worse. She rubbed at her face before finally nodding her head, “I guess we can just go out there and I’ll um… I’ll do something.” She opened the bathroom door timidly, bare feet walking across the carpeted floor as she made her way towards the living room but stopped when she heard Booth’s feet on the kitchen tile. She walked into the kitchen, smiling at Cale as she reached for her glass of milk, “ Hey- you’re um…. you’re home early. How was your day?” She looked at Mackenzie with a hopeful look on her face as if asking if that was okay but really- it wasn’t as if she could take it back now.

MACKENZIE BRENDA BARRET - October 9, 2012 02:34 AM (GMT)

Kenzie felt that her sister had something solid with Cale and them raising a child, together, was very much a possibility that could succeed. So it wasn’t that she thought either were incapable. Both certainly qualified a lot easier and quicker than she thought she did. But given the more recent news she had found out about her sister. she wasn’t sure if her sister was ready for that next major step. It wasn’t something her sister wouldn’t be able to handle. But there was a lot she knew Bailey still had and was dealing with.

Probably if it were any other situation Kenzie would’ve been able to play things off in a smoother fashion. But already this was an awkward position to be in, with two people that..well, were different in a lot of ways than her to begin with. But there was probably better advise she could’ve given her sister. She even had to laugh a bit at herself “Well, I mean just don’t go out there and..i don’t know. You know him, I don’t know how hes going to react to this.” She was nodding in agreement with her sister when she said she’ll just go out, and do something “Yah. Be cool.

And the two of them slowly started out of the bathroom. Kenz letting Bailey take the lead and greet Cale before she was giving her sister a wink and nod. It was a good start. It wasn’t argumentative or anything to the point of causing tension. “Hey Cale..” she greeted warmly and smiled, moving to where she had been next to her sister and was taking a cookie out of the container to dip in her milk and take a bite.
