Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call."
With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, "Save yourselves from this corrupt generation." Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.

One favorite among many is:

Bless the Lord, O my soul,
And forget not all His benefits:
Who forgives all your iniquities,
Who heals all your diseases,
Who redeems your life from destruction,
Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies,
Who satisfies your mouth with good things,
So that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.

Wren - September 6, 2006 03:59 PM (GMT)
John and Greyfeather,
Please also quote the chapter and verse so that people can look it up if they want to.
John - September 6, 2006 05:10 PM (GMT)
And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,
(The Jesus wept one is John 11:35)

The following verse is beautiful too. :)
"and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen."
Wren - September 9, 2006 02:37 PM (GMT)
It sure is, Jimmy. :)
Listen, my sons, to a father's instruction: pay attention and gain understanding.
jimmy_tst - September 10, 2006 11:10 AM (GMT)
But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn,
That shines brighter and brighter until the full day.

In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. (John 14:2)
MillisaAnn - September 12, 2006 05:00 PM (GMT)
"For God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten son that whosoever beliveth in Him, shall not perish but have everlasting life".
John - September 12, 2006 06:46 PM (GMT)
Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?
jimmy_tst - September 14, 2006 12:29 PM (GMT)
Who has ascended into heaven and descended?
Who has gathered the wind in His fists?
Who has wrapped the waters in His garment?
Who has established all the ends of the earth?
What is His name or His Son's name?
Surely you know! :)
MillisaAnn - September 15, 2006 01:47 AM (GMT)
But he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was upon him,
and by his wounds we are healed.
jimmy_tst - September 15, 2006 01:11 PM (GMT)
This bears repeating, as it's one of the most beautiful verses that we can meditate on. :) I love the way one of my church pastors broke it down and fed on it like this:
For God --> the greatest Saviour, Creator, Being, King, Lord
so --> the greatest intensity
loved --> the greatest virtue
the world --> the greatest inclusion - everyone included
that He gave --> the greatest generosity
His only begotten Son --> the greatest gift
that whoever --> the greatest invitation to everyone
believes in Him --> the greatest simplicity
should not perish --> the greatest escape/rescue
but have everlasting life --> the greatest possession/inheritance
(we "have" now the moment we believe, not "will have" in the future. Everlasting life, or eternal life, is explained in John 17:3.)
greyfeather - September 16, 2006 10:38 AM (GMT)
A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
jimmy_tst - September 17, 2006 11:14 AM (GMT)
So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will worry about itself. Sufficient for the day is its evils.
Wren - September 21, 2006 11:10 AM (GMT)
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.

Better is open rebuke
Than love that is concealed.
Faithful are the wounds of a friend,
But deceitful are the kisses of an enemy.
Oil and perfume make the heart glad,
So a man's counsel is sweet to his friend.
Iron sharpens iron,
So one man sharpens another.
Wren - September 27, 2006 12:32 AM (GMT)
Blessed are all who fear the Lord,
who walk in His ways.
greyfeather - September 27, 2006 11:28 AM (GMT)

Wren - September 28, 2006 02:13 AM (GMT)
The fool says in his heart, "There is no God."
They are corrupt, and their ways are vile; there is no one who does good.
greyfeather - September 28, 2006 11:35 AM (GMT)
So shall ye know that I am the LORD your God dwelling in Zion, my holy mountain: then shall Jerusalem be holy, and there shall no strangers pass through her any more.
jimmy_tst - September 28, 2006 12:27 PM (GMT)
For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.
Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Xiana - September 28, 2006 06:47 PM (GMT)
We love because He first loved us. 1 John 4:19
Wren - September 29, 2006 10:45 AM (GMT)

jimmy_tst - October 2, 2006 12:41 PM (GMT)
The work of righteousness will be peace,
And the effect of righteousness, quietness and assurance forever.
My people will dwell in a peaceful habitation,
In secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places
Wren - October 3, 2006 11:04 AM (GMT)
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.
jimmy_tst - October 3, 2006 01:31 PM (GMT)
But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.
