Can we get rid of this annoying crap?

If you can't tell the invo needs repairs by just looking at it, then you don't deserve to live.

It is annoying, but it only happens if you constantly try to use a broken machine. Just heal it, and don't keep pushing up against it when it's broken and you won't hear it.

CNTRL H will solve that problem

In some maps sometimes it's advantagous to be standing where the station is (or on top of it) and the constant spam gives away your location. (Waypoint on Scarabrae comes to mind)

I'm just saying I only need to hear it once or not at all.

I disabled all voices, so I don't hear it at all anymore... It's nice not hearing everyone's spam, and the server's spam too.

I like the voices. Ho.

well, is the sound server side or client side? because if it is client side, just delete or change the sound file. :unsure:

It's server side and seems to be built into annihalation mod.
Oz's server and LS's does this too.
No other mod does this.

Sounds aren't server-side. It may happen in Annihilation, but that is still a sound file you have in your tribes. It is from one of the voices built in to Tribes saying "Need Repairs".

The "trigger" that activates those sounds when you are at a downed station is server-side.
Deleting the female voice VOL file will also disable voices from anyone else using that VOL file.

Unacceptable.

Well I doubt anyone is going to rewrite that part of the mod because one person has complained about it.

You made a suggestion, I told you what is likely to come from it. Nobody's going to rewrite a part of the mod because one person has made a suggestion (that so far, nobody else in this thread has strongly agreed with).

As for a client-side fix, I don't know enough about scripting to know if that'd be possible.

Because not hearing the one or two people who say "need repairs" in that particular female voice (there are 5 packs), a generally vague request "Need repairs!" to get rid of the aggravating sound effect. One is much easier to do than the other.

I really didn't expect anything to be done, just like no one will fix the Command stations or anything else for that matter....

But the thread was made in May, and at first there was no trolling really, the suggestion just didn't pick up enough followers and the thread died.

I was making a suggestion on how to improve the server, not asking how to modify my own installation.

I was suggesting changes that would benifit everyone,
not looking for a client-side fix just for me.

You made a suggestion.

It obviously didn't get implemented. Plus, you were the only person who posted here saying something about it. If more people were concerned, they would have said something.

You then revived the thread that was dead for over a month, obviously still wanting something done about it.

It's not that the change shouldn't be made. I'd be in favor of it saying it once, or at least having it have a longer time between each. However, it appears that the change isn't going to be implemented any time soon at least, so you were given options by other members of the community as to how you could stop it on your end at least.

I'd say answering your questions honestly and even providing alternative solutions is being "helpful on BR".

Not to mention that I don't think there is a single person working on the server's code right now, therefore there is nobody to implement any change.

If you haven't noticed, only you seem to care about this issue. So why you're asking how others feel about this is silly. If we/they cared, something would have been said. Just simply solve the issues for yourself, and not worry about the general population in which there are close to zero complaints about this issue. Duh.

If you read Stu's 2nd post, he states that one of his complaints is that the local sound gives away your location to enemies invading your base. This could pose a problem in bases like blast/broadside, where the alcoves in the entrance provide convenient camping/ambush spots (in case you don't have entrance D up yet). Stu isn't just talking about his own personal dislike of the voice; he does not like how the local sound is heard by friend and foe alike.

Disclaimer: I have no problem with this personally; I submitted this post because even stu deserves to have his opinions accurately represented.

In that situation's context, you're being raped up the mouth by phase distruptors, nukes, and nades anyway. If someone is leaning against a broken ammo/invo for cover, there are more productive things they can be doing.

It's annoying and bothersome and quit hating on improvements just because Stu suggests them.

I don't like hearing it after I toss a h-kit onto invos. It's a PITA.

If you're going to "hide" in areas that people spam anyways, then you might as well not sit there and be productive. I've never personally seen or have camped on a broken station. Why? Because there is no point. (Unless you're all talking about an enemy station, but I don't believe you hear the repair command then.) You might as well sit outside and afk.

Whereas when I die, and find a broken invo when I respawn, I rush it, throw a health kit, and wait for it to be back online. Part of that involves defending it from potential enemies.

Since, you know, you're not always being raped, and you can kill things first. Shocking concept, I know.

You have to remember that you are talking to a guy who flies around all map in an APC, I don't think productive is in his vocabulary.
