Title: Map Issues.
Description: A suggestion.
Sniper[TKC] - April 17, 2012 03:54 AM (GMT)
It is very irritating to know that there are many maps to use but people keep voting for Broadside/Blastside maps.
It is as follows:
1. People vote for Broadside/Blastside when on a boring map.
2. Broadside/Blastside is played and the next few maps follow without votes.
3. Boring/tedious map appears.
4. People begin a vote for Broadside/Blastside.
5. Repeat 1 through 4.
I know that there are many maps that would be fun to play with many people that are on this server but never see play since one person just has to have their Broadside/Blastside fix.
My suggestion:
Limit the amount of times Broadside/Blastside maps can be voted for in one day so that the maps can cycle through.
Bongwater - April 17, 2012 07:44 AM (GMT)
Vote for a different map.
If the majority wants it then win. If the majority wants broadside ur SOL
Jerry Garcia - April 18, 2012 07:12 PM (GMT)
Yes, this has always been an issue. Unfortunately, the worse players can do better on broadside. There is often no rape, because it is such an easily defended base, so they like to play it...over...and over...and over.
Be glad that you don't like it, that means you understand how the game should be played, and the dynamic and carefully balanced relationships between defense, offense, and completing objectives. ;)
Erowid - April 18, 2012 09:31 PM (GMT)
you forgot the vote to add time to the broadside mission in progress.
perrinoia - April 19, 2012 07:08 AM (GMT)
This thread is merely distracting us from the real issues:
1) People who vote to change to a duel map.
2) People who vote to extend the time limit on a duel map.
3) People who vote to change to the next map on a duel map knowing full well that the map maker scripted the next map to be the current map in their map file as a cruel fucking joke.
4) People who vote to kick/punish people who interrupt duels in the free for all arena.
5) People who vote to kick/punish people who fight in the neutral zone because they can't find targets anywhere else!
6) People who build boxes and shit on the teleports so players get trapped after teleporting.
7) People who vote to kick the people who build the boxes rather than voting to change the fucking mission.
8) Admins who abuse people during a stupid duel map.
9) Android phones that wake your ass up 4 hours early for work (fuck you, Google! Fuck you!).
You get the idea...
Jerry Garcia - April 19, 2012 06:52 PM (GMT)
Hey, the guy's new to the community and tryin to make some suggestions to make things more fun. You have to ease him into the BS that they call BR.
We all had this enthusiasm at one point, until it was admin abused out of us. Anyway, don't rain on his parade, let him find out on his own that the servers are ran by people with barely enough brain power to log in correctly, let alone actually fix anything.
Oh, and you forgot the largest category, the people that vote on the legit players simply because they hate their own lives.
perrinoia - April 20, 2012 06:46 PM (GMT)
I also forgot the people who retaliate against the annoying voters by initiating more votes.
Jerry Garcia - April 22, 2012 05:03 PM (GMT)
Yep, although I have fallen into that category. What are you supposed to do when someone votes to kick you 15 times cause they keep dropping and reconnecting and therefore can keep initiating the same vote?
If they get kicked, you at least have 6 minutes to play, or however long it takes them to get a new ip and connect, which sometimes seems instantaneous.
perrinoia - April 24, 2012 01:25 AM (GMT)
When is the last time that vote passed against you?
I would just ignore it, and if it passes, be thankful that you don't have the option to play in that dump for awhile.
Sniper[TKC] - April 24, 2012 02:16 AM (GMT)
How about adding some Open Call maps to the regular rotation like Acrophobia (Acrophobia would effectively put a stop to nuke spamming).
perrinoia - April 25, 2012 02:04 AM (GMT)
Sniper[TKC] - April 25, 2012 03:14 AM (GMT)
Change the mission type of the map from Open Call to Capture the Flag.
perrinoia - April 25, 2012 11:22 PM (GMT)
I meant, how would that prevent nuke spam?
Sniper[TKC] - April 26, 2012 02:36 PM (GMT)
It is tough to get a Titan class armor up to the enemy base to spam it with nukes.
perrinoia - April 27, 2012 12:46 PM (GMT)
Maybe, if you are a noob.
I just connected to Blue Sex, got in Titan, skied over to the enemy base and then rocket jumped up to the flag platform hovering above the base, while throwing a nuke right in the door.
Then I respawned, purchased tank armor, and did the same thing (minus the nuke).
It was easy... ...for me.
Jerry Garcia - April 27, 2012 04:50 PM (GMT)
I like the idea of changing the map rotation. We might actually have a chance too, while playing with Bo yesterday, he bitched about the rotation getting old. So, maybe he will ask someone to switch it up.
perrinoia - April 27, 2012 05:54 PM (GMT)
I think we just need more maps that aren't broadsides clones... That, and maybe make it select a random map after the end of each mission rather than follow a predictable cycle...
But you should be able to see what the next mission will be in the tab menu so you know whether or not to vote on it.
Jerry Garcia - May 1, 2012 01:28 AM (GMT)
Ya, those damn inside flags are too hard to get to, or perhaps too easy to defend. The real problem is the majority of the players like broadside, so they either vote to extend the map or constantly vote to change back to it.
Sniper[TKC] - May 3, 2012 03:10 PM (GMT)
Jerry Garcia - May 3, 2012 03:35 PM (GMT)
IV, Scooby Snack, and The Gods Must Be Crazy are all inside flags, that are very easy to defend...
The other 2 are great maps and Olympus Mons is actually one of my favorites, as it is almost perfectly balanced between offense and defense, in my opinion.

that one
perrinoia - May 4, 2012 03:54 PM (GMT)
The only one of those maps that I like is Olympus Moons.
The rest suck, especially Arecibo. Fuck that map.
Jerry Garcia - May 4, 2012 09:00 PM (GMT)
Just out of curiousity, what don't you like about Arecibo?
I love it because you have to used different armors, if you want to be efficient, and it's hard to defend the flag, but easy to defend against complete rape. If you want to get out of the base quickly, you have to ghost, then you can use the back invo to get whatever armor you want. Also, you can see base to base, so HM is almost worthless.
It's a very well balanced map, in my opinion.
Oh and Sniper was right, it's, "Mons." Hopefully he won't call you a dumbass, like you did to him. ;)
perrinoia - May 5, 2012 04:23 PM (GMT)
I called him a noob, not a dumbass... And it had nothing to do with a typo.
I don't like Arecibo, because there is only one entrance unless you are in necro, but there are windows that you can get sniped in, and that necros can shift through. So you end up with nothing but necros and titans...
The building has 3 or 4 levels (depending on if you count the gen room). I always seem to spawn near the generator or flag room, which means, you need necro to get out of the base quickly, and the inventory station on the back of the base is always raped.
It's as if the guy who designed the building was drawing a prison, that would be difficult to escape, and easy as hell to camp.
Basically, if I were to design a map like that, I would have simply used a different building... Such as a drop ship, or something... That way it would look like the two tribes had landed drop ships there to battle for control of the giant communication array, instead of 2 tribes fighting over a giant bowl of cereal, or something.
Jerry Garcia - May 5, 2012 07:22 PM (GMT)
Ya, it's a bit strange, but I still like it.
I set an invo half way out the side of one of the slits in the top layer. You can ghost out, access the invo, get builder, and then defend that back invo.
It is easy to snipe in there, but that's almost pointless to do. To me it's like a broadside that had the flag outside. In fact, the lt version of broadside, with the flags out on the front, and invos included, would be cool.
Actually, there was a map like that, can't remember the name, the broadside bases were turned sideways, and a long track ran between them, and the flag was outside, maybe 30 meters in front of the door, inside the structure that holds the back invos on DX. That was a way better version of broadside.
perrinoia - May 11, 2012 05:12 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I liked that map... It was funny watching the noobs walk across the bridge as if that was the only way to get to the enemy base...
I think that may have been the first map to ever have laser turrets deployed under a jump pad...
I used to grab the enemy's flag and use their own jump pad to retreat... Imagine my surprise the first time the jump pad shot me!
EvilTree{OZ} - May 11, 2012 05:40 PM (GMT)
I will have to agree that all those maps blow ass. And if we are to remember correctly they were all in the map rotation at one time. Olympus Mons is the only map in that rotation this is playable.
All I like to do on Arecibo is set turrets and phase shift enemies from the window into those turrets. Other than that Arecibo is hit and miss for me
IV was ok back in the day but I think I grew out of it.
Scooby Snack is horrible
(=SK=)Zorak - June 1, 2012 07:32 AM (GMT)
I like IV, but it lagged back in the day on 1 of my 2 old machines, then it worked fine on my newer ones, until I downloaded 1.40, then it was laggy as shit again. Insta-skip, unfortunately, because it's a fun map. Go play broadside then Perri you twat :)
Jerry Garcia - June 2, 2012 02:20 PM (GMT)

It's Alive! ... and making funny jokes about Perrin.
perrinoia - June 4, 2012 01:41 PM (GMT)
No, not broadsides... I'd much rather play Roller Coaster... There aren't enough maps like Roller Coaster in the rotation.
I'd make more like it, if I could access the console on this new computer... But, like so many other special characters, I cannot.
Just to be clear, when I say special characters, I am referring to this:

Not this:

Part of the 'trend' as you call it. I'm carrying the 'Porkins' theme into gymnastics. Its stoner humour mate.

Oh, ok, now I get why I don't get it.
Jerry Garcia - June 18, 2012 09:31 PM (GMT)
I've never heard of porkins... but it looks like I need to hit the gym.
