Bongwater - August 10, 2011 01:40 AM (GMT)
Lasthope and 1.40 mean almost nothing anymore in that respect.
<!>bo'sdad - August 10, 2011 04:02 AM (GMT)
who are you ? what name do you use in br server ?
Strictor - August 10, 2011 07:48 AM (GMT)
It reduces the accusations at least. ;)
SapolV is a decent sniper, but HM doesn't help that much other than finding targets - you still have to hit them.
If you're suspicious, observe him for a while and see if he makes kills by lobbing grenades, ect, around corners at enemies he could only know are there by cheating, or shoots guys right as they walk over the top edge of a hill (for the first time). Even if you don't find anything, you'll probably learn some tricks, routes and techniques.
Punkbuster - August 10, 2011 11:27 PM (GMT)
He flys over hills looking right at me.everytime. theres no way it could happen like that, so many times.i played vx6 for years using happy mod which is ok in vx6. so im a vet at all the signs. now i dont even have that shit on my computer. im not the only one thinking this,so thats why i figured he must be using it.
<!>bo'sdad - August 11, 2011 05:37 AM (GMT)
ever use a compass ? I do all the time.
Punkbuster - August 11, 2011 10:50 PM (GMT)
so you see the enemy in your compass?maybe we can play 1v1 and you can show me.
Ross Vernal - August 11, 2011 11:09 PM (GMT)
Command menu, click your name, hit A, click on an enemy target. It should lock you on with a waypoint to the player.
Same as waypointing yourself to defend the flag capper, really.
<!>bo'sdad - August 12, 2011 01:03 AM (GMT)
and yes you see the enemy, they are the red triangles. and the front ot the triangle iis the way he is heading . didnt you read your tribes manual ?
Punkbuster - August 12, 2011 01:38 AM (GMT)
i know all this allready. how bout that 1v1 bosdad?
<!>bo'sdad - August 12, 2011 06:12 AM (GMT)
hmm, your right, that will prove that sapo doesnt hm ! ? by the way, sapo has last hope, he posted it today in our. he hopes this will help dispell the rumors . he did this on his own, without being asked. so 1V1 sapo now .
perrinoia - August 12, 2011 04:43 PM (GMT)
If you command yourself to attack an enemy waypoint, it will only point in the direction of the enemy as long as they are detected by one of your teammates or sensors. When they are undetectable, the waypoint freezes at their last known position, and automatically tracks them again once they are detected in the sensor net.
If you track friends, there is no interruption unless they die.
If you have hudbot or 1.40, with the radar hud instead of a compas, you really don't even need to command yourself because you can see the red and green triangles on the minimap in the corner of your screen at all times, and know which direction to look to find a target. However, it doesn't help you choose a vertical aim vector...
I usually just aim at the crest of the hill to ensure that I see them when they come over the top. This tactic fails if the red triangle on the minimap belongs to an enemy who is flying above my field of view, and I often get surprise attacked by enemies from above.
However, I try to keep an eye on both the minimap and the horizon so that I know when they should be coming over the hill, and when they are closer to me than the hill, and therefor are about to ammo dump on me or something.
These are my tactics to compete with HMers.
Strictor - August 12, 2011 07:52 PM (GMT)
It probably also helps not to run around with a 'laser' class weapon in your hands. Doing so paints a huge target on you to anyone running HM. Use something like the PD for your 'commuter' gun and switch to the PB when you're about to shoot. Then the cheater won't see you as an immediate threat and will be more likely to take aim at someone else, giving you an opportunity to locate and rail him.
We could probably make the mod less HM friendly by converting all the laser class weapons to very fast rockets with almost no splash damage.
Disclaimer: all I know about HM I learned from a video on youtube that points out how lame it is to use it.
perrinoia - August 15, 2011 11:42 AM (GMT)
The rail gun and sniper rifle both use extremely fast rocket projectiles.
Particle Beam damages targets through a function, the laser projectiles are merely eye candy.
The only true laser weapons in Annihilation are the Death Ray and Cutting Laser, the later of which is only accessible while Builder Mode is enabled.
All sniper weapons, regardless of how they are coded are a nuisance in the hands of someone who always knows where you are.
However, the server can be modified to prevent weapons from causing damage beyond visible distance, rendering the fog stripping feature of happy mod useless.
HMers will still be able to see targets through hills and walls, though, which is more of a problem when they have lobbing grenade style weapons than sniper weapons.
Either way, fighting cheaters (albeit frustrating) is quite invigorating, and gives you extra bragging rights if you are winning legitimately.
Strictor - August 15, 2011 05:27 PM (GMT)
In the stats railgun is classed a laser and I think the laser quick select selects it. Any hmers know if it puts that big pulsing ring on you? ;)
perrinoia - August 15, 2011 05:44 PM (GMT)
I think you are referring to the light that occurs when a sniper fires their weapon. Any player can see that, not just HMers, however, HMers can see it beyond the fog.

perrin, he is referring to the video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bL1cdWSkHxoand talking about what is says at
&t=0m19s the rings around players with a sniper rifle, and he was wondering if these applied to the rifles in annihilation mod as well.
perrinoia - August 16, 2011 07:00 AM (GMT)
Oh, I've never seen that before.
In the annihilation mod, there is a shockwave effect like that, when ever players exceed a certain speed... So, that would probably confuse HMers if they had that modification.
Well, not in all Annihilation servers, only some.

I'm not the only one whos also thought the same punkbuster. I'm glad that someone is actually saying something and noticing it instead of not caring becuase he does infact suck too much to really do anything about it. His hm use is rather blatant if you ask me besides I would know.
edit: that is called a "shockwave" its a stock dts replacement shape and thats all I'm going to tell you fucking noobs. Shockwaves occure without happy mod but generally are the result of weapon effects. If you don't use hm and you see a shockwave then theres probably someoen shooting where the shockwave hit. the shockwave in hm base which is the first version of happy mod for base players shows all snipers as a giant shockwave so you can see them in base servers without running hm.
perrinoia - August 25, 2011 04:21 PM (GMT)
I assume they simply make a copy of shockwave.dts, rename it sniper.dts, and overwrite the original sniper.dts?
That's pretty ingenious if you ask me.. I certainly never would have thought of that on my own.

whats the file for jetpack flames?
S_hift - August 25, 2011 09:16 PM (GMT)
exactly erowid. :stab:
edit: reason why I wasn't going to specify how it works was becuase now noobs know that they can just open up their tribes and look for the files.

Puppetmaster - September 14, 2011 02:34 PM (GMT)
I've watched Sap, and even though he's a clan mate, when I was been sniped by seemingly impossible shots, I watched him closely to look for signs of HM. I found out shortly after that he's just camping in a good spot. He uses builder w/ railgun which is what I snipe in myself, and I get accused of HMing a lot. The truth is, I am usually at the very point of where if I took one step back, I can't see the enemy base. It would seem like I'm HMing bc I'm at the very point where I don't see anything but movement and I shoot. Sap does the same thing.
