Title: Players Wanted
Description: For a Dark Heresy game

Maugan Ra - March 24, 2010 02:52 PM (GMT)
Hey all. Recently, I've been participating in a game of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay over the internet, using an Instant Messenger service. That's working out quite well, so I figured I'd see if it was possible to do a similar thing with a game of Dark Heresy.

Dark Heresy is essentially the 40k equivilent to WHFRP. The players take on the roles of Inquisitorial Acolytes in service to an Inquisitor, and perform investigations and Missions on His/Her behalf. These can range from investigating strange happenings on a Feral World to exploring mysteriously abandoned Spaceships. The foes can range from deluded peasents to full-scale daemonic manifestations.

The game really captures the 40k feel to it. Your character can be anything from a Priest to a Guardsman to an Assassin. You could be faced with dangers such as monsters, pitfalls and exposure to Hard Vacuum. The damage tables are perhaps the greatest of any RPG, with specific sub-tables to consult depending on where you hit the enemy and with what sort of weapon. For example, the table for being hit in the head with an explosive weapon ranges from just inflicting a mild stun to having your head vapourised (blinding your comrades with the shower of your blood). There are built-in mechanics for going insane, becoming corrupt and striking Dark Pacts, with daemons. Oh, and Psykers are both powerful and prone to turning inside out when things go wrong.

Put simply, I'm looking for people to play a game of Dark Heresy with, using an Instant Messenger. It doesn't matter if you don't have the rules, as much of it can be explained easily enough or be decided by the GM (which will be me in this game). It doesn't even matter if you have the ten-sided Dice used to play the game, as there are online dice rollers aplenty. All that's needed is a free evening every week or so (preferably more, to make organisation easier) and a willingness to give it a go.

I'm after maybe two more players (having already recruited two from elsewhere - Fergo and Rahvin), so if you'd like to give this a shot, reply with the times you're likely to be available and whether or not you know the rules. If you don't, I can PM you a rough breakdown and walk you through character creation.

So, any volunteers?

What source books do you have?

Maugan Ra - March 24, 2010 03:31 PM (GMT)
Just the Core Rules book at the moment. If players want to use equipment or Career Paths/Skills from one of the extra source books then I'll probably allow it, so long as they send by an email/PM detailing what exactly it is they want to take.

I am very interested, but not sure i can commit to anything regular

Good to know. I have two other players already 'enlisted', so to speak, so you would make three. I'm not taking a character myself. Would three characters be a decent number, or do you think more would be appropriate?

In my years of roleplaying i have had anything from 3-10 players in a session, i find a healthy middle is best

I'd be interested

Maugan Ra - March 24, 2010 06:23 PM (GMT)
Well, if you'd be interested, I need to know two things:
a) Do you have an Instant Messenger? If so, what's the email and
B) What times do you think you would be free?

Oh, that's something. Unless you have convienient working hours or something, it is going to be rather hard to include someone who's not in the GMT timezone. One hour or so out could be made to work, but not really any more than that.

Ahh then i will probably not be able to participate as I am in the EST time-zone here in America.

Razhbad - March 24, 2010 07:47 PM (GMT)
Neither would i as its difficult to find the time sometimes

OK then, anyone else wanting to volunteer? I was planning on starting sometime in the coming week, so last chance...

Ooh, ooh, me! I'm in GMT nowadays! Me! Pick me!

Alternatively: Yep, I'm more'n happy to chime in. fraki (underscore) wak (at) hotmail (dot) com

Been GMing a few PbP ones recently, albeit one on Dark Reign seems to have fallen to the wayside a little whilst two are suffering from crippling player absence (which can't really be helped). But for participating in online games, I'm good pretty much any times except Tuesday evenings (paperwork to be done!). Other things crop up and so forth, but my diary's essentially free these days!

Otherwise, I'm a massive fan of 40kRP (both RT and DH), count me in if I'm able!

Xisor - I might be able to as well. We've started, but we've only had one session (the next is probably tomorrow). I could involve you easily enough. Maybe a little more xp at the start to get you level with the rest.
