As some of you will probably know, over at
www.TheGreatCrusade.co.uk we have a rather splendid community dedicated to the Horus Heresy series, both in print and on the tabletop.
Back in 2008, we decided to give the writers among us the chance to put their creative talents to good use and pen some original M31 fan-fiction. We are fast becoming known as THE place for fans of the Horus Heresy series to have a go for themselves, not least because of the direct links we maintain with the BL authors themselves - both Dan Abnett and Nick Kyme have taken part by judging previous years' contests, and Graham McNeill has been involved with the storylines that we put out for our gaming events.
You can see the 2008/09 anthologies
HERE and
HERE.
So for 2010, the idea is once again to find the best short stories produced by TGC members and offer them as a downloadable fan-fiction anthology... introduced by the badboy of the Horus Heresy series, AARON DEMBSKI-BOWDEN!
"Now, where did I put the sugar...?"Aaron is often to be found lurking in the dark spaces between the pages on
The Great Crusade, checking the facts and trying to conjure up a pre-Heresy army of his own using whatever evil magic he can find. He will read all the entries and pick the overall winner before penning an introduction and commentary on the work that our entrants have produced!
This year's contest promises to be the most exciting so far, and I'm personally looking forward to seeing what you can all come up with for your entries. This is indeed a rare chance to have your own writing put in front of one of Black Library's top authors - something rarely offered anywhere else! As per usual, the contest entries are strictly limited to 1000 words which means you have to think much more carefully about your work.
There will be prizes for the best stories, as well as the kind of geeky pleasure that only comes from being included in a fan-fiction anthology! :D
Head on over and view
the contest thread here.
Please do publicise this contest on any other forum or gaming groups that you think will have any interest in it, although please bear in mind that it is not in any way affiliated with any GW or BL contest which may have similar criteria.
Good luck to anyone who feels like joining over at TGC to enter, and I'm off to start my own entry...
