Pyroriffic - July 18, 2010 10:14 AM (GMT)
In the event of a further tie break - Ballistichimp will make the casting vote!
Voting open until 22nd July.
squiggle - July 18, 2010 10:18 AM (GMT)
very good, JDD. I have cast my vote in your direction, so you dont feel left out in the long run, ya know, when everyone votes for me. :D
on a serious note, I loved your story. Very funny, and something that would never have ocurred to me to write.
J D Dunsany - July 18, 2010 10:21 AM (GMT)
Once a Doctor Who fan, always a Doctor Who fan, I suppose.
And I've cast my vote in your direction. Because your story was bloody good, actually. :D
If a man's standing can be judged by the quality of his opponent, then I must be alright. More than 'alright'. :)

... Would you please post the Link to the stories? you know, for final reconsideration and (in my case) reading the story?

They're quite small so you may have missed them, but there are links to both stories next to the authors' names on the voting poll. They should be working.
Ooh. And it really is neck and neck. Wow!
JDD
Blinded - July 18, 2010 12:52 PM (GMT)
Being a Blinded I didn't notice those tiny blue "here"s. Sorry.
And nice stories both of you. My vote remains a secret.
Colonel Mustard - July 18, 2010 03:42 PM (GMT)
JDD, yours is simply begging for a sequel.
The idea of corrosive chocolate sauce that can also be used on ice-cream was also too good for me not to vote for it. Well done!
Also, Squig, yours was an excellent piece as well. It did, however, lack corrosive chocolate sauce, so I'm afraid lost my vote.
squiggle - July 18, 2010 04:20 PM (GMT)
well, we cant all have corrosive chocolate sauce! haha. thanks for the vote anyway!
Gundi da Grot - July 18, 2010 06:30 PM (GMT)
Squiggle's story was marvelously told, and like the first story had a very Pratchett-like quality to it, which I loved. But even though I think JDD cheated something terrible with his entry, it was still a seamless, totally spot-on blend of the two universes and stole my vote.
Boc - July 18, 2010 07:17 PM (GMT)
Squiggle: Positively delightful. The opening description of the capering fool had a very Monty Python-ish feel to it. The subsequent dialogue between the fool and Trundle was quite funny, as it made it seem as though two complete dolts were arguing back and forth. While I did foresee the inevitable double betrayal, it was very fun to experience. And the final explanation as to how the fool came in possession of the bodice... absolutely great.
JDD: 'You desecrate my holy armour with your... sauce.' That line really sums it up. Unfortunately, I do not follow Doctor Who, otherwise I probably would have enjoyed the twist at the end a bit more, but it was still very amusing (and clear enough that I could generally get the gist of what had just happened!) Fortunately, you did write it with (at least it seems) the idea that not everyone would be familiar with Doctor Who, and it was able to function as a standalone incredibly well. This story earned my vote (but only if you can mail me some of that sauce!) I do agree with the good Colonel... this needs a sequel!
Well done, both, on awesome entries to complete an awesome competition :)

Dont be sorry, Mossy. :marine:
J D Dunsany - July 18, 2010 08:42 PM (GMT)
Hmmm... the 22nd's Thursday, isn't it?
Lord, I'm going to be a nervous wreck at this rate.
Thanks to everyone who's voted for me; it's greatly appreciated. And I'm sure Squiggle would agree that those who've taken the time to comment on the stories are particularly appreciated. :D
Regards,
JDD

I dunno what's worse, the fact that JDD is beating me, or the fact that he's being so nice about it!
Grr! *shakes imaginary fist*

Well, I'm crap at trash-talking and I always feel that gloating over your opponent in these kinds of situation is asking for trouble (I first heard the fable of the tortoise and the hare at a very early age and I'm afraid it's been one of those life-defining moments for me), so you'll have to forgive my lack of animosity. I'll try better next time - if, indeed, there is one.
Besides, your story is excellent and things could change very quickly.
And another besides, I'd be genuinely pleased if you won because... you know, you're a nice guy. Gal. Whatever. ;)

CONGRATULATIONS TO JDD!!!
Well done for winning the 300 members Rainbow Warriors competition - and a second big well done to Squiggle for a close-run second place!
Thank you to everyone who participated and everyone who voted and for giving me, your quiet, unassuming little primarch something to be amused by!
JDD - please could you PM me your home address so I can sort out sending you your prizes? (I promise not to pass it to any third parties and will also delete the PM as soon as the prizes are sent!)
:pyro:
Thank you all again!
squiggle - July 23, 2010 06:49 AM (GMT)
2 VOTES! 2 VOTES
Haha
On a serious note, thanks to all who took the time to vote even if you misguidedly voted for JDD... I mean who voted accidentally for JDD and are too embarassed to admit it... I mean who voted for either mine or for JDD wonderful story!
Well done JDD! Your story was brilliant. :D
Although I'd advise you check the bottom of your car the next few days...
I'm joking. I really am.
J D Dunsany - July 23, 2010 06:58 AM (GMT)
Thanks, Squiggle - and everyone who voted and made this competition such a frighteningly close-run thing. I mean, two votes!!!
And thanks to Pyro for running the comp in the first place. And Christian for suggesting it. (These BL editors are so damn' powerful. Look what a stray comment can do!)
:D

Congrats JDD!
What's tha booty?
You may have said it somewhere, was just curious so that I can cry myself to sleep about not writing a better story :P
Raziel4707 - July 23, 2010 08:02 AM (GMT)
Congrats! Both were bloody good and I think the result is a fair reflection on both tales. Great work, both of you.
Pyroriffic - July 23, 2010 08:08 AM (GMT)
JDD can reveal the booty when it arrives...
Blinded - July 23, 2010 08:16 AM (GMT)
That was close...
Congrats JJD and Squiggle, both of you were great but in the end there is enough cookies for only one winner.

Please tell me these aren't play-on words and JDD's prize is actually the item he wrote about? :o (Just kidding ... I hope)
Grats JDD for winning and Squig for a close second.
It's certainly better than bolters at dawn!

Call me strange, but I'd be more than happy if the prize was a certain item of clothing actually worn by a bona fide Sister of Battle! :D

Ballistichimp - July 29, 2010 01:13 PM (GMT)
Afternoon all!
Well played gentlemen, both for finely wrought tales and for not forcing me to have to choose between you myself :D
I have, just mere moments ago dispatched your goodies Mr JDD via first class recorded delivery. This means they should be winging their way to you in no time at all!
And means you are not allowed to do anything for the next 48 hours except sit by your door and wait for the nice chap with the signing slip.
You may want to get some coffee in.
All the best!
The Chimp.
J D Dunsany - July 30, 2010 11:35 AM (GMT)
And, with somewhat surprising super-efficiency, the postman has just delivered the prizes! To say that I'm delighted is something of an understatement.
Thanks, Mr and Mrs C! :D
JDD
Pyroriffic - July 30, 2010 11:25 PM (GMT)
Am glad you received your goodies!
Perhaps you'd like to tell people what you got... ;)
J D Dunsany - July 31, 2010 05:57 AM (GMT)
Well, alright, then.
In keeping with the competition itself, the prize consisted of a pleasing mixture of grimdark awesomeness and colourful frivolity:
A copy of Helsreach signed by Aaron Dembski-Bowden on the cover (he's got some strange 80s heavy metal band thing going on with his signature - think Saxon or Anthrax maybe) and by our very own primarch on the inside.
A Swizzels Mega Drumstick. (Note - not just any ordinary drumstick. This is a gothic slab of chewy confection and has the potential to remove several teeth in one go and cast them into the Warp.)
A packet of Rainbow Drops, which I'd never even heard of before. According to the packet they're 'Sugar Coated Puffed Maize and Rice'. I will leave it for others to unpack the semiotic richness of that particular phrase.
And, finally, a packet of 24 Crayola crayons. 'For those Rainbow Moments', indeed. These will get used and the fruits of their labours may well be seen here at some point. You have been warned.
Thank you again, pyro and ballistichimp, for running this competition in the first place. The prizes are fab and greatly appreciated.
Many many thanks!
:D

Pyroriffic - August 2, 2010 06:36 AM (GMT)
Glad you approve, JDD!
Thank you to everyone who took part in the '300 Members Competition'.
Get me 400, and I'll see what I can do THIS time...
