Title: Arcade Treats

TwistedSupreme - March 20, 2007 08:22 AM (GMT)
You wait for one then three come along at once. The coming weeks sees the release of three Sega arcade games converted for the home machines. Vitrua Tennis 3 comes out on 23rd March for PS3 and Xbox 360 and 30th March for PC and PSP. Virtua Fighter also hits 23rd of March on the PS3, and finally Afterburner Black Falcon comes out on the 30th March. So overall a great month for all you arcade fans out there, I myself can’t wait to get my twitchy button mashing fingers on them.

The Xbox 360 version has online gameplay, so that ought to be great.

That, VF5, and After Burner Climax are the top few games I'm waiting for for the Xbox 360. I'll hopefully have a system by the time the Xbox 360 versions of Virtua Fighter 5 and Afterburner Climax come out.

I hope the Xbox 360 version of at least Virtua Fighter 5 has online play. Online Afterburner battles would be fun too - but they couldn't implement that without changing some of the gameplay mechanics. So, as long as they keep that one close to arcade perfect, I'll be a happy gamer.

Sorry, forgot to say Afterburner is PSP only at the moment as far as i know. Fingers crossed they do a next-gen in the near future. As for online play, the 360 does have that big advantage.

This is weird saying this, but... Top Spin 2 is more fun to me than the demo of VT3.

I'm not sure if it's just me but, I love the arcade version of VT3, and this conversion feels as if someone didn't like the slower pace and thought out gameplay of the arcade machine. Instead (at least the demo) it plays like the athletes are on crack. They're all sped up when they show the close ups in animation, they don't recover from dive shots well (seem to be lagging), they have fewer animations than their arcade counterparts, and every shot looks like a smaller lob shot vs. the rifle shots you see when hitting a topspin that stays low to the ground in the arcade version.

I'm not sure what it is, but unless there's a ton of good bonus material in the extra mini games and career mode, I'm holding off for now. Maybe something will come along to change my mind.

I read that the career mode is pretty weak. You start off as bottom rank in the world, but instead of playing against generic players to work your way up you instead are playing all the pro's and as you move up so do they. Sounds a bit odd to me, how hard would it have been to have random players at the lower ranks and you don't play the big guns till you move up.

Anyone else played the Pac-man CE for XBLA. I can not stress how good this game is and I have no qualms in stating that i love it more than the original.
